I only have one issue with advertising; putting it in places where it just dosn't fit. Like a fantasy RPG with adverts for coke and cars... just no. Adverts are esentialy a visual shopping cataloge, I can look through one of them and not see much I want either. If it WASN'T for advertising however I woulnd't know about some of my favourite games (nor a very good source for comedy - "We could save you money on your car insurance!")
Aractain
The reason it sucked was because it was developed by Ironlore who are now dead (and blamed it on piracy no less! har har!). (not to be confudeled with Ironclad (which is also type of warship)).
40k is my favourite sci-fi IP, way better than star wars with thier poncy swords and mind tricks (you need propper metal sowrds and the ability to warp in all sorts of nasty things with your mind). If the lightsabers are just bad annimations and some badly done hotbar skills the game will suck, never mind lack of other gameplay styles. Star wars is such a huge IP that its very easy for them to fail (in my opinion that is, not financialy).
They call it "styilised realism" errr that means low quality blurry textures right? It must do because mass effect had some very blurry, low quality textures and that looked ok. They want this mmo to run on everyones PCs though, so that means take the lowest PCs wow is played on and make that the standard I guess. So many questions about player intergration and mechanic design that will have to be answered still. Truly only time will tell weather bioware are truely tale
The absolute number 1 thing that never changes anything: an online petition.
EA think the Gamers Bill of Rights is about a guy named Bill whos a gamer who lives in the town of Rights. They don't understand why everyone is talking about Mr Bill either.
if you make a new user with a diffrent name it wont do that...
How about being able to REDEFINE THE FING KEYS!?! See space seige (and spore).
Personaly, I see it as a phsycological thing mostly. 3 activations, 5 activations, 10. Its all a limit, however distant on players bility to 'own' the thing they paid for. I don't buy cars but I don't suppose I would like it if the agreement said the car can only go on dirt tracks 10 times before you have to take it back to the garage for a inspection to make sure you wern't smugling drugs with it. However unlikely it is to actualy happen, its something galring and obvious to say "Thi

Mods... :P
I would say don't pirate anything, just don't buy crappy games. Also make sure you buy good games. But I know that isn't realistic to expect from a world where its simply EASIER to be a pirate than a legitimate user and the legit user gets treated like an idiot.
I just went to the gamesradar website and found out that PC gamer's editor did a review of Spore and gave a 91% with an Editor Choice award http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/spore/review.html?page=2 The rewiew is very informative and very objective in the sense that it tells what is good, bad, and the various good and bad game mechanics. One thing I do agree with Kristen (Pc gamer's editor in chief), is that, I think
I like sins because I love stratergy but not spreadsheet strat, I like to make decisions and have a reasonable lead time before something happens because of it. I like logistics and planning but I guess im thick because all my plans change totaly half way through. :D C&C 3 felt like it was made for kids and Civ makes me want to take control of my forces directly. Anyway Total War and Sins are my favourite level of games and I wish there was more.
It is annoiying, its like im talking to a bunch of children who are trying to act like animals... Fortunatly I ain't playing that game anymore. What a load of hype.
Camel tastes better than crow.
I think thier programmers would take that as an insult...
They could easily come up with a system to take the prefix string from the (racename) file and a unique ID after it (usualy a number) from the string table and get the names. I was really supprised when I learned the names were hardcoded. Thats one of the simiplest systems you can create.
Ill be buyin it, cos I like playing games. No other reason (other than it has guns and will be better than Crysis).
In fallout I just picked the biggest gun and hoped I didn't die before they did... thats kinda how I always play. Really did love double barreled and the leather outfit with the missing arm. Rather than kite, it was move right next to enemy and let them have it hehehehe.
You think casual players have time to read forums all day? They may be put off by amazon but that isn't the only place to buy spore. When I say less mind, I was just humoursly insulting a diffrent class of players, you need to lighten up, get some skill at the internet, lol. Im regularly insulted by console players and versious other groups I meet (not the idiot 12 year olds, the good people).
I don't think annimated turrets would be particularly hard for performance or difficulty (after all its just some maths calculations ontop of some good code). Time, is the issue. Both in programming and assembling the meshes and the file formats etc etc. You would only make so many turrets move anyway, most of the Advent and Varsia don't need it anyway (sleek designs look crap with turrets).
Help me out if I'm missing anything here guys.
I think you hit em all: Strike Craft: Check. Sounds limits still not coherant with other options: Check. AI options: Check. More standard capabilites for low-purpose structure types: Check.
2gb isn't exactly a lot of space you know.
I think you will find it sells far far far more than you think lol. EA knows how to sell crap, literaly.
