I would like to know if two objects that share the same texture map will result in the engine loading a seperate copy of it. I.e. will it duplicate the texture map or will they both use the same one? Anyone know the specifics of this? I mean it sounds logical that it should but I wanted to check so I don't have to redo work to optimise. :P

If your willing to give up an ability slot for everything you can make an always on ability that incrases speed and then have research to unlock and upgrade it. Personaly my idea is to mix slow ships and fast ships (fast ships being weak ones) to give strategic and tactical options for fleet combat (and true hit and run fighting). Find in files combined with a string like 'modifierType "' gets me all the diffrent keywords used. In UEstudio I get a list of the entire line so I c
You can use find in files to find all these keywords (and more importantly the line and file they are used in). I use UEstudio and its perfect. Anyway yeah, thats how it works - they only put in keywords (and thus code) to do what they wanted in the main game, there is not a 'complete set' of various modifiers. Still there is quite a lot. You don't sound n00bish, if you were worried about that. :P
Do you know what find in files is? anyway "CapitalShipLinearMaxSpeedAdjustment" and "CapitalShipLinearThrustAdjustment" dosn't exist in the 1.05 refrence data. The only modifer type that I can find is the one already in the file. The only way to change max speed seems to be through an ability. Which would be very unweildly. Same with linear thrust.
Isn't fleetpoints the thing that changes the number of ships?
I thought that ment number of players...
Maybe there should be a new defitition for EA style employees then: the "Interactive Media Profit Margin Engineer". It would even come with new raks, rather than "lead" "head" "senior" "junior" (and "Junior Assistant Dispatcher Trainee") you could have "Money Bags" "Cheif Cash Train" "Credit Card" "Walking ATM" and "Safe Deposit Developer" (also probably "Incompetent Fool" unoffical of course). I want to work for EA and become the Cheif Cash Train Interactive Media Profit M
4. I'll be sure to get some guy using voice modulating software to play with you.Ewww. Is it hard to tell the difference? Shit I'll just turn voice off.
If you want to have phone sex with someone, pay the money - don't try to find it in online games! lol :P
Blake's 7 called, they want thier high quality space ships back... :P (if you don't understand the refrence look it up, its probably on wikipedia).
If a game designer dons't know super basic stuff like this, you can't call them a "game designer" but rather "rabid fan who joined the customer service department of a company then got promoted to tech support, then to QA and finaly became the prodcuer at which point they start LOSEING customers...". All I have to say is SOE's SWG NGE to illustrate my point.
People still think games are games but that is not the case, movies are not just moives, there is the big budget hollywood stuff with big explosions and the same plot as the last 47 films. Then there is the low budget crap movies about storys and real emotions. I really hate those. Fortunatly the mid budget pc games are awesome niche market stuff that really sofisticated (points for irony!) hardcore fans are into. If all you want to do is play Gears of War then why do you even have a PC
I might sounds nasty, but what about strikecraft types limit per ships? Is there is any chance to be able to have 9 types (number of free slots without game rewriting) of them on one ships ?BTW is there is possible to limit strikecraft use via research? I mean if we would be allowed to have more than 2 types of them, the will it be possible to have, for example stock ones avaliable, but more advance bombers and fighters would require research to be ready to use?
The strik
off topic, why the changes in the newest update that are going to cause problems with mods? I'd like to see differentiated string files, might decrease cpu load from that single string file getting worked like a pro at the docks .
That wouldn't make it any faster, probably slower if anything. The main reason to have so many seperate files is for human understanding (other wise we would still be programing FORTRAN style). Once the data is loaded the various files are prob
Hi folks,I know that some of the limits are frustrating to the modders. The reality is that many of them can't be changed because of stability problems when approaching RAM limits (if somebody makes a mod that eats up 4GB of memory, it's going to crash on most machines) and/or UI/design considerations (redesigning the engine to support an infinite number of ships, for instance). However, I can tell you that we are aware of the limits and hope to increase some of them for the n
Whats funny is that the devs can't even do an expansion without incraseing the sound limit (unless there is very little new ships, weapons, dialoge etc and if that is the case, what kind of expack will it be?). Personaly I really want there to be at least 5 diffrent strike craft per ship supported.
Im my opinion the levels of tactical/stratergy goes like this: Skirmish or Contact Battle Theater or Zone Skirmish is simply one thing fighting another the smallest scale you can go. Tactical. A battle represents a C&C style leve of tactical command. Usualy a single objective. A theater or zone represents a area that holds some objectives that can be fought over. Strategic The top level is a selection of diffrent theaters to choose from. Strategic <
BIN is binary, this format has only the the data and no english stuff (like tabs etc usualy). BIN is faster and is used to speed up load times, TXT is the only way for a human to understand and modify it. The game directory files (mostly) have BIN format files, the devs relese the TXT file versions so we can mod properly. Simple.
It is usualy transparancy (the first two letters). The rest is a simple hex number for colour.
I think it's already silly It's silly that women gamers are sort of treated as novelty, and for a lot of guys it's almost something to brag about if they know a woman gamer. This is so apparent when playing MMOs that you can't miss it. Granted, MMOs are not, in general, known for having a high degree of maturity overall among the playerbase. But, having seen what some women have to put up with if they let people know, I'm not surprised at all that a lot don't bother to and prefer to stay
I never played the previous UT games and it is a nice game, but I think this was more an engine demonstration of UT3 engine. As you can read on their website they seem to make mainly money with licensing the engine.
And it seems from what ive seen to be heavily aimed at console development rather than say modding.
Has anyone else gotten a Crusader no regret vibe from teh game?
I doubt any game could match the awesomeness that Crusader was... Why isn't that a third person shooter like gears of war, damnit. I want my automatic shotgun back!
I bought UT3, when I installed it I realised I didn't really want to play a arena FPS anymore (after OFP, Planetside and other amazing games). So I played the 'single player campaign' which was HORRIBLE. I loved the single player 'ladders' from UT1/2 but this time the AI was so rubbish, the game so... OLD it is one of the very very few games that I never 'finshed'. I really don't know why I bought UT3, I guess simply because I bought all the other games. I loved Gears of War however yet
Is it fesable to say pirates are running a huge amount of multiplyer servers and therefore piracy is a possilbity of the low sales? I don't think so myself but maybe, still such a result proves to me that the 'piracy' storys talked about by Crytek and the like are just covering themsevles for investors ("no don't worry mr shareholder, we are investing in DRM to combat the piracy!").
Honour and duty? This isn't some strange romantic soldiering fantasy out of a 19th centuary novel. This is time consuing talented work usualy done with out any benifit to the author other than the sense of acomplishment. (I've always wanted to say something like that).
i picked it up on PC hardware forums. It migrated there (and now it has migrated here...see how that works?)Really it originated in 9-11 Truther forums (hint thats what the T was for) but since the Truth movement basically campaign-jacked RP it is now also associated with Paulians. In an interesting side note it has also migrated to white supremacist forums! So by all means, keep using it if you don't mind being automatically associated with Paulians, Truthers, and the KKK.
<br
