In terms of events: Andromeda Strain: A pandemic starts from a planet and spreads. Either research the cure or slow the spread by disabling trade. Researching the cure gives large diplomacy bonuses. Researching it as a biological weapon gives you huge bonuses to invasion fleets, large diplomacy penalty.

Dunno I kinda liked a lot of those events. I find that if I'm 'trying out' a new strategy or civ I'll turn those off.
