The thing is though people 'say' they dont want repetition, the reality is they need 'consistency' and that makes the game feel 'repetitive'. However without consistentcy, players feel entirely lost when they switch races and this makes the game much more frustrating. They want to at least understand what the game, at it's core, wants you to do. Each race might have nuances, but they cannot really flip the core game on its head. You really can't make a
Retail was a horrible system for developers.
A facinating look at the horrors of retail. Thanks for the detailed breakdown. Its usually something most publishers/dev guard like it some kind of state secret. Though I do get that publishers dont like to make the retailers angry. I've seen my fair share of 'totally obvious but its totally not retaliation' kinds of actions form retailers and even from distribut

Just on the whole 'bugs' thing. I was wondering if Stardock was going to use any external bug tracking mechanism for the alpha/beta Just as a reference, Prison Architect is using Mantis to track bugs for all alpha users. And it's a lot easier to submit bugs, track, merge, etc stuff there than going through reams and reams of forum posts trying to find the one tidbit of information that might be useful. I mean forums are great place to discuss things, but tehy'r

Personally 'alignment' doesn't really work in GalCiv. for my own campaigns alignment was more about the 'broad' morality that a character adhered to. And to be honest I'd only really pin them down on it, if the lawful good paladin suddenly thought that burning down the orphanage full of kids so they could make their escape from the trolls was a 'great idea'. If you're going to introduce alignment it really needs to be more than some 'checkbox&#3

But if it does, the license is EXTREMELY EXPLICIT about it. Office 2013 is one copy per computer. Office 365 allows for 5 computers simultaneously. Fprot Home allows for 5 license. All of these are clearly (well as clearly as reading a licesne is) outlined in the license you purchase for said product.

Also if you want an example of 'digital distribution done horribly wrong'. Ubisoft sells some games digitally via DigitalRiver (not Uplay). They have a WONDERFUL policy of allowing you unlimited downloads. For 30 DAYS. After that you had to PAY for additional 'download insurance' after 30 days!? WHAT THE HELL

How about the capacity for the major players to PROVOKE events and major events? Like, be the ones to awaken the Dread Lord; as a form of Godzilla threashold; opening the cage to the monster you have found, to unleash them on your ennemies, as they have more to lose than you. Or perhaps you are the one who provoke the Galaxy-wide virus?[/qu
If you're selling retail, lets be generous and assume that Stardock is still getting 70% of the retail price (which I strongly doubt given all the people in the middle that want a cut). In addition, they have to pay to make boxes, make discs, put discs in boxes, ship them, and buy shelf space at Gamestop. IIRC Brad said that they made something like $16 per boxed copy of a game, which is a bit over half what they'd make by sell

This is true for everyone in the industry (except retail, of course). They actually come out ahead by selling 100k digitally instead of 125k at retail.
