GC crashed when I clicked on the planet details button on a minor civ world I just won. Item 2 should be "Technology graph" New Items: 6. News items in lower right sometimes show up one turn late. 7. Tooltip for round button between left & right pointers at bottom of planet detail panel is "string not found". 8. Planet that had a priate flag when I won battle still has the priate flag while my morale is 100%. More to follow.
Here are some bugs I've found so far: 1. AI Civs go into debt by the millions 2. Production graph shows a flat line for all civs. 3. If I double-click on the confirm "Yes" during a Game Same, the click can fall thru to the Load Game button. 4. "Quit Game" from the menu should have a confirming "Are you sure?" 5. No picture for Habitat Improvement. More to follow.
I've finally fixed the DirectX problems that GC has run into. I used DXDIAG and noticed that there was a registry error with my input devices. I uninstalled/reinstalled but my MS Joystick and MS Mouse and the DirectX problems loading the game have gone away. :D BUT, I am still getting ramdom game lockups (Beta 3Z1) that require a power off and cold boot to recover from. When the lockup occurs, all game music stops and the keyboard is dead. The mouse pointer moves but nothing happens.
Lucky Jack, Thanks for the info. My audio driver update IS from IBM PC Support (as are all my other system drivers.) ;)
Windows System Control panel says it's a "ESS Solo-1 PCI AuidoDrive (WDM)" from ESS Technologies, Inc. and that the Hardware version is 002. The driver is dated 1-31-2000 (note: this is different date then DxDiag reports) with a file version of 5.0.0.3044. I have the latest driver according to the mfg (IBM) web site. :)
This is what DxDiag reports: ------------- Sound Devices ------------- Description: ESS AudioDrive Device ID: PCI\VEN_125D&DEV_1969&SUBSYS_01621014&REV_02\BUS_00&DEV_13&FUNC_00 Manufacturer ID: 1 Product ID: 100 Type: WDM Driver Name: solo.SYS Driver Version: 5.00.00.3044 (English) Driver Attributes: Final Retail Driver Signed: Yes Date and Size: 1/20/2000 21:44:18, 69386 bytes Othe
I'm using end user DX V8.1b for Win98 (US English) d/l directly from Microsoft at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/downloads/drx81.asp
That was "...look at them." Wish I could type better. ;)
I am still getting lockups with the latest beta. Some happen right after the SF logo and others happen durring game play. There is no pattern to the lockups. I have run DXDIAG before and after and the one thing I know is that the lockup corrupts DirectX. I am using the latest DX Ver 8.1b for Win98. I have the before and after DXDIAG reports is anyone wants to lock at them.
Once again I'm getting fequent system lockups (keyboard dead, mouse moves but no clicks, no sound). The last time this happened, I had just clicked to colonize a new system. I've saved the game files if anyone wants to take a look. I'm running Win98SE. There was no SE report since this was a lockup, not a crash. Here's the debug contents: Debug Message: ******* Starting Game Shell ******* Debug Message: Going Fullscreen Debug Message: RGB in format 5:6:5, Masks reported as
I was sellecting ships in orbit from the ships list and then launching them. I "think" the crash occurred when I sellected the last ship but before the planet screen came up. :notsure:

LuckyJack, I mean when updateing. I made an update adding Avatar Killer and at the next update Killer wasn't listed and there was no way to scroll to verify it was there before adding the next module without cancelling and going to the starbase info list. This is a minor usability issue.
1. The music at the main menu breaks up while the game is loading. 2. There is no scrolling enabled when looking at a Starbase's list of improvements.
I get a lockup (everything stops, no music, keyboard does nothing, can move mouse but nothing happens) about every 2 hours of game play. (:( No SE report. I've sent my saved game(s) and debug files to Cari and tied a special build that helped a little but did not eliminate the lockups. :notsure:
Thanks for the info. I can understand why the programming gives that result. I just don't like the fact that everthing LOOKS damaged when it just needs to be upgraded. :notsure:
I'm at peace with everyone and playing as Good. On one turn almost every ship and starbase has lost HPs and is showing damage. I check again and I'm still at peace with everyone!! What happened? Who attacked, why, and where did they go? I've seen this in the last several builds including 3A but never reported before.
I've found that reinstalling DirectX, reboot, and running RegClean works for me. :)
At the (small) risk of being a smartass, I say put tooltips EVERYWHERE!
As I have said before, this lockup does not produce a SmartException report. (:(
I just had a thought about these lockups. Since they are random and happen while performing very common actions, could they be caused by a memory leak??? :notsure: I'm running Win98SE if that makes a difference.
I'm getting hard lockups when I either click on the "next" button when going through the planets for each new skip/improvement or when I click on a news item in the bottom right. The lockup requires a power off to recover. There is no exception report and while I can exactly reproduce the problem it has happened several times within a few turns. I have the game saved along with the degur.err file if it would help.
I am also getting the Error 13 on Space01.pt_. I noticed that the date/time of the Space01.pt_ file in my %temp% directory is 4/9/02 8:08 AM while the file it is trying to replace Space01.ptb is 11/9/02 1:32 AM. Are you trying to update with an older file???? :notsure:
No, I can't reproduce this error. This game played on until I got a divide by zero error which is coved in a different thread. :notsure:
