Greetings! I am finishing up a game right now and I realized something since I have been playing. I typically create a race and make the champion a warrior. I also tried mage. Warriors can get Champion plate mail and wield an awesome sword such as 'Heart Seeker' into battle. Both improve the Warrior ( A LOT!!) and are fun to play with. Mages get nothing. I mean there is no equivalent armor or weapon that i have found playing over 100

The augment is a ship part you add to your ships. You need the base weapon to use it. It is not an upgrade but 'improves' the weapon. My argument is the amount of increase (none) is not worth the effort of directing resources to build a starbase to harvest the durantium. If the augment did 20% increase over the base weapon then it would be worth it. The issue is if I got base weapons and YOU have base armor i will not touch you. If I augment than I can keep on going down the mass driv

There is a limit on performance on rendering so many ships. Granted there should be no limit, however for practical purposes on hardware limitations I would think there needs to be a cap on how many ships you can put into a fleet. This is represented through the 'logistics' technology. Each tier of logistics unlocks a greater value. Ships are assigned a value based on size. Say a small ship is a value of 2 and tiny are 1. You start the game able to suppor

Darca, look in the tech tree, under each weapon is an 'augment' For Durantium we will find its use under Mass Drivers. The first augment, I believe will increase range or rate of fire by (.5), but reduce damage by 15%. Remove the penalty. The 'Age of war' mass driver is just fine without it. The Augment at this point of Alpha does not justify its use.

For the amount of effort needed to get the resources, the augments that use them are little more than 'meh'. To be honest I want a REALLY good reason to build a multi trillion credit starbase on a node. The problem is the weapons do just fine WITHOUT the augments so why would I bother to get them? The first augment for most weapons, DECREASES your damage output but in return you get either longer range OR higher rate of fire. This is (in my opinion) terrible. Ta

That is a good point and I agree with you. The supporting 'line' which shows who sponsors what Starport should only be visible to the owner, not the AI nor any other players. This is probably a moot point in late game with far-seeing sensors but in early game it can mean the difference between losing your port or rush-buying and defending it with a ship.

It is not an expansion if your re program the game to be native in 64 bit. That would constitute a NEW game. If all they did was rewrite Gal Civ II in only 64 bit that would still be a NEW game, because that would open up maps and features far beyond what Gal Civ II could previously handle.

I cannot attend the stream and had a question. I love the designs on ships and simply want to change the load-outs and use the existing templet. In GCII we had a 'focus' slider that let me tell the AI designer how much of each armament & defense to place on ships limited by known tech. For example I like my ships to have equal amounts of all defenses with one weapon type, until I meet another civilization and can reac

Somebody is reading our thread... "Innovation in an existing series is a tricky thing. We have players here on the Galactic Civilizations III forums who are outspoken about their desire for an updated GC2 with bigger maps and fancier graphics, and others who constantly question why they should invest in a new game if they don't see dramatic steps forward. We do have answers to these questions -- in some ways, these are the central questions Stardock has stru

Alap, you are certainly entitled to your opinion and I am glad you are investigating the game. However, to generalize that everyone will be put off by the look is a bit of an overstatement. Currently (I feel) the graphics are amazing. The ship detail is far better than anything I have seen so far. I had endless space and it was 'meh'. GCII was amazing but was limited in 32 bit. As for features, somethings will change. This is after all a 4x game. The basic

I am completely WITH Charon on this. That is exactly what I want as well. As i stated in another post about hexes, I have played GCII for many years. It is one of the best 4x space games ever made (in my opinion). I have always wanted GCII redone in native 64bit, better graphics, more AI players and MEGA maps. The rock/paper/scissors move was genius and works well in a game like this. Furthermore many folks always wanted a multi player game where you could play each other or Co Op against the

Long have I played Gal Civ II. For YEARS all (I wanted) was the exact same game simply updated for newer hardware and graphics. I wanted larger maps, more AI players and maybe a longer tech tree. These are all I personally wanted because in (my opinion) Gal Civ II is perhaps one of the Best 4x games ever made. Now with that said, I can tell you that everything I wanted has happened. Brad took what he knew to be a success and took it further because today's technology has allowed him to. T

Yes lucky it does make for a cheesy road block and lacks any credibility, however it would solve the problem and keep the solution simple both at the same time. Give Stationary objects & Star ports a 'combat' rating which is really just an indication of how strong the object is (it includes, gun platforms, AA, shields built deep in the platform, ect.) Fleets have a numerical value we look at anyway, you can simply say your rating must equal or exceed 4
One idea- instead of making it a battle unit, give all static structures a value which a fleet has to surpass in order to destroy it. Otherwise they can't attack it. This makes you build up a sufficient force to attack bases/planets
I actually like this idea. I simple value that can be modded up, down or out is a great idea. Put it a low/medium value at launch of gam

Good afternoon Stardock! I am going on vacation as soon as I leave the office TODAY! Ill be out the door on my way to grab the kids and we are going camping in the Redwoods (on the beach) here in CA! I was wondering if you great (rested) folks are going to do a Dev stream tomorrow? Also great job on the proposed patch updates. Keep em coming!

Durantium will allow Augments for Armors and Rail guns (Mass drivers). Elerium will support Augments for Beam weapons and Shields. In each case the augment will improve the base defense or weapon greatly. I still don't know how the shield cancelling Augment using Elerium on Beam weapons will be balanced by 'Really good shields' using Elerium augments. I would hope that the cancel each other out but who knows..
