I have been a huge fan of the Civilization series since 1992. I played the original Civ to death and I even bought Rome on 640 K a day. I put in many hours playing Civ II, Civ Net and all the expansions like Fantastic Worlds. Civ II was awesome since it had those fantastic wonder movies and great advisers. To be totally honest, I didn't like Civ III quite as much but I still played it a lot. Naturally I bought all the expansions. :) Alpha Centauri was fantastic, as well! Wonderful

I don't mind some humour but I absolutely hate some of the ridiculous star names. [e digicons]#:([/e] If some people were early adopters and got to name a star then let them have it in their games. Not a problem there. Make it an option to have founder star names in the game or be able to switch it off. It damages the immersion for me to see some of the names. Having the option to switch them off would be the correct thing to do.
I see that on metacritic, Civilization 5; Beyond Dearth receives an 8.2 from "professional" reviewers and 6.1 from users. Saw this and had to laugh:
Quoting Thormodr, reply 8 The unit editor seemed to be used by most people to just pile up initiative boosting stuff. One can still pile up 6 initiative rings in one's high level rider and enjoy 3-turns-in-a-row. Overa
The Sovereigns sound very, very cool. ^^ The Tyrant making Trogs sounds very interesting. Also directly competing with the SK is brilliant, IMHO. I never play evil characters as a personal rule but a Saruman type character sounds very thematic. The Tinkerererer sounds awesome. Blowing up wandering armies with outposts was amusing but setting up a variety of traps to decimate them could be super fun. [e digicons][/e] Already super
Looks pretty neat. Glad EFELH is still getting the love. ^^
Tom Chick is spot on. I commend him for telling people that the Emperor truly has no clothes on.
A better project would be to just re issue Alpha Centauri with graphics updated to current standards. I'll bet Sid wishes he could take his name off the box....
Just make cIV with a 64 bit engine and updated graphics and I'll be content for a decade. Sid has been rubber stamping the games for years. He's laughing all the way to the bank.
I have little to no interested in BE right now. Maybe at 75% off. Civ 5 disappointed me as much as War of Magic did (sorry Jon but I don't blame you for it- I think much of it was outside your control) , expansions improved it less than FE/LH. Also, a ton of good games out now and upcoming. It's just another case to me of a AAA publisher (Firaxis) getting bloated and having the quality of their
Rejiggering the crafting system is fine. Having very different sovereigns is excellent. Different SKs I can live without. Different Lootenants, certainly though.
Lol. Talk about a necro-tease. Never even noticed the 2013. :(
I might have to pop on over to BE forums to remind me of what it was like on the EWOM forums in Sep 2010. Ahh, those were lively times.
Beyond Dearth is worse, IMHO. They already had a base to build from. They really have no excuse for delivering stale, warmed over dreck. EWOM was brand new and as we all remember had a very difficult launch. They had a brand new engine and all the pro
The unit editor seemed to be used by most people to just pile up initiative boosting stuff. I prefer the SK way.
Ouch, that's rough.
Yep. It appears to be what I feared. A re-skinned Civilization 5 with a pasted on sci-fi theme. I say they should bin it, leave sci-fi to Stardock and move on to Civ VI! [e digicons][/e]
According to a fair number of people, Civilization 5: Beyond Dearth is stalled in beta. Lol. 1. UI is atrocious. Queuing is so bothersome and that I don't use it - you have to click three times on different menus to put something on queue...only from city queue - no hotkeys, Ctrl or Alt modifiers from main map. In other words - you will waste more time on clicking than if you manually issue orders. 2. Diplomacy somehow managed to become even wors
I think I'll give it a spin. :)
I have no interest in playing Civilization 5: Beyond Dearth, personally. Just waiting for the new stuff to be added and then I'll play SK again. I really want to play the Guardian. [e digicons][/e]
Vetrar could, like, pick up your outposts and carry them on his broad shoulders. First one he wears like a hat. In combat thereafter ... your own outposts shoot at you. And he gets their fortification HP as his armor. You'll cry, you'll curse, you'll cease spamming pioneers. SK hums Phil Collins: oh, think twice -- <b
I think the humour is fine, personally, but others seem to have a problem with it. If it really, really bothers some people, since the humour is just text based, it can be easily modded. So, I'm pretty confident there will be a straight and serious SK mod that pops up quickly.

Thanks for the video. :) The Nature Guardian looks like fun. Bill the spider is combo-rific with the Ranger. The Dire Wolf should have a name as well, though. Like Binky? The Ranger is pretty nifty with some fun skills. Love the Falgull. (or is it Seacon?) Perhaps the Ranger should have a little more green in his outfit to differentiate him from other elite archers. There should be a recipe for a bow with a rough power rating of the hunter's short sword, IMHO. You
Looking forward to it. ^^ 1.) Are there any plans for trained units to acquire new abilities when they are leveled up? Say a new skill at 5th, 10th, 15th and 20th level? 2.) Will there be random events added to the game? Say a good variety of smaller events (a 2 headed calf is born, a marriage is celebrated, a new deposit of metal is found, a new Trog/Urxen leader unites their clans and sends a large invasion force, etc.) and bigger Global events . (A comet stre
Jon Shafer first implemented it in Civilization 5. He is also using it in At the Gates, his game that will hopefully be released in 2015.
