While I agree that some visual improvement would be nice, I am really tired of people wanting tactical combat in GalCiv II. It's frankly a relief to not have micromanage battle after battle for once. So if that's what you mean by "wanting SOASE-style combat", then I'll have to strongly disagree.

By the way, for those of you following my Terran AAR , I plan to start a new one soon as the Torians (for the 15-year game I've mentioned above), since I'm going to reach the current point in that one in a few more "chapters".
Part 15, continued I continued to develop my planets during this time of peace, creating a few wonders: But even with the cash flow from anomalies, I was a bit low on funds, less bec
Will you be posting more of this, or is it a one-off?
Ouch. That sucks. What exactly are your computer's specs? Even in my biggest games, I've never seen this happen.
That is a long time to go without meeting anyone. You may want to give this thing another try.
Ooh, good, someone else actually doing an AAR! For screenshots, I upload them to Photobucker - others use Imageshack, and I think any image-hosting site works. I believe the manual says how to take them.
Part 15: Interbellum The conclusion of the Great Galactic War had not been a conclusive one. True, the Iconians were gone, and the Drath's new evil alignment effectively nullified them as a major threat - it could only be so long before the Torians came after them. But the Torians themselves were still a major danger, one which I would have to deal with as soon as possible; and relations with the Altarians were ruined likely beyond repair. Still, I expected the ga
Not that this isn't interesting, but where'd everyone else go? I'd love to see ChainsawSchmalz apply his "unique" style of immersive writing to some other race, for instance.
Speaking personally, the only thing in Program Files/Stardock is my old Impulse stuff. All GalCiv II material is under Program Files/Stardock Games.
I think it's intentional. I mean, the good races can and WILL go to war with a neutral race if they fee like it. I had a game recently where all the good races ganged up on a neutral race that had done no wrong. So the "good" choices having a lot of "morally uptight and rigid" choices highlights the fact that a lot of "good" races end up becoming Knights Templar. (WARNING WARNING! I'm linking to T
One thing that might be neat would be the option to retreat from a losing battle. Of course, if it was too easy (and the AI could do it) things might get very frustrating very fast, so it's an idea to be taken with a grain of salt.
Thanks for the response. Was it ever possible then? I wish I had discovered this game when it was new.
It was, I believe, possible in GalCiv I - there are certain artifacts related to that scattered here and there. As far as I know, though, no major feature was ever removed from this game.
Not that I disagree with the general sentiment, but what's the problem with DA vanilla?
From what I and others have determined by testing, the Dread Lords seem to be a genuinely random event. They do, however, rarely show up before the late game, and they won't show up if you've explored the entire galaxy.
Unfortunately, there's no way to find out who enemy agents work for without using cheats. And there's no way at all to figure out who bribed wars, though 9 out of 10 times it will have been the Drath.
It should, but the AI personality used by the Iconians and Torians is bugged, and will often leave its later-settled planets undeveloped. That said, are you sure you aren't simply wiping out the Iconian buildings yourself? Most of the Iconian structures are not shared by any other civilization and will be demolished when you take over one of their planets unless you've traded for their techs (and you can't get all of them anyway).
So, bad news: the mouse I used for my laptop seems completely dead, and the one built into the keyboard is useless for playing GalCiv II or any other game. So while I have about one or two more posts worth of material played out, after that, I may have to put this on hold again until I can replace the mouse.
I would also like a final report, if possible. It feels somewhat unsatisfying to be simply left hanging.
Live, thread! Live! I'm currently in the middle of a rather ridiculous game of TOA where, essentially, I've fallen victim to some kind of snowballing war effect. Basically, near the beginning of the game I declared war on a minor race who wouldn't trade me their technology. The Drath and Krynn (who already disliked me) declared war to 'stop my acts of aggression'. I managed to make peace with the Drath, only for the Arceans to declare war on me because of my 'w
Not saying it's impossible, but the " - We know what you're doing" message usually means they suspect you of planning to attack.
Actually, from what I can tell Cinematic view is a randomized selection of all other views, whereas Random view is genuinely random.
Fast tech seems a bit much, I like the slow tech increase, but the tech stagnation was making it a bit absurd (as far as I recall). I´d like it nice and slow, but without it suddenly and without warning turning into eons of waiting. Is tech stagnation slowing down the research on fast to a similar level to slow before tech stagnation was introduced?
Yes, pretty much.
Mod
Try Fast tech research speed and a Large or Huge galaxy. It's also possible to mod ship range, by the way.
Additionally, although their dialogue does change appropriately, the Super Organiser ability still thinks the Altarians are good and asks me to help in war.
While I've encountered the other bit before, I've never seen this - on the occasions I've had the Altarians change alignments, Super Organizer reflected it (this was on both DA and TA, so it's not something that might have changed).
