Recently, in a modding effort of mine, I've seen multiple AIs decommission the starport on more than one planet near game start-in a gigantic all-abundant, no less. And Neilo, it sounds like you'd prefer a model closer to SOASE's. Have you played it?
This, I've never seen. Do you have any idea what caused it?

Judging by the fact that even our least profitable trade route earns up to 90 bc a week, I would strongly advise against initiating hostilities with any of our trading partners, now or in the near future. I have no other specific recommendations, though I feel a ballot ought to be done for form's sake.
Here's tidbit I've mentioned before but it seems to bear repeating: The Torians are scary with Thalan AIP. They usually do quite well in the colony rush, but in my latest playtest they're going to end up with 35 to 40 colonies where the other 6 civs each have 10 to 20. Yuck.
I've been trying to figure out a way to nerf the Torians without crippling them for a while now. They're just too consi

Gentle-beings. I, too, would like to join my fellow lord councilors in congratulating our military in its success against the Yor, as well as in offering my condolences on our losses. With the collective nearly destroyed, it's time to begin considering our new long-term plans. I have no immediate proposals in this regard, though I second Councilor NikolaiOmega's recommendation on avoiding foreign alliances at present - based on the Krynn's aggressive behavior, they are no

Well, the Free Torians game has turned out interesting, all right... but not for the reasons I was expecting. See, the whole Korath War thing turned out to be pretty much a no-show. They continued to be manipulated into attacking other races (most of which I had never met), presumably by the Shylen. But my Torians never saw any trace of them, and it soon became clear that my speculation they were far away was correct. And so things were just rolling along smoothly... ...until
Quoting Tolmekian, reply 3818 - Going back to unique AIPs, the Arcean AIP seems to be quite good at warfighting. It may be a one off thing, but they did an awesome job of getting their transports moving and actually conquering planets while the other AIs were just picking off defenders with scarcely a transport in sight. Is it an actual programming difference? Well, probably not. It was nice to see some actual conquest

I've started up a new game (TA, Immense galaxy), playing as a Torian variant called the Free Torians. Essentially, they're fugitives from the second Drengin conquest of Toria (in the Dread Lords campaign) who have reemerged with the conclusion of the Dread Lords war to restart Torian civilization. I'm up against 9 AIs and an assortment of "smart" minors, including minor versions of the Drath and Korx. Things are pretty early, but they've already picked up fast, as the

The "quicksave trick" is required to make the game register the changes to an already-modded minor. Since the Jagged Knife - and, for that matter, all other pop-up civilizations except the Dread Lords - can't be modded, the "quicksave trick" won't actually do anything for them. Given how many planets they tend to steal, I'm not sure why people really want to make them "smart" in the first place.
I had the "a civ finds crystal, becomes godlike" thing on and that kind of spoiled that game for me as far as playing further.
You know, it seems people keep overestimating this event. It doesn't instantly make them "godlike" - the effect (which is a boost to stats, for the record) takes place over time. Add that to the fact that it's basically meant as an equalizer, and so typically only happens to civilizations tha

In light of my above remarks, I'm interested to note that we are "Close" with both of the Drath's nemeses, though any conflict with them is not an issue to be discussed at present. Unless there are any further remarks, I agree it's time for the ballot.

432 Replies 1,093,896 Views

The Drath are militarily superior (although possibly not by much), and possess the ability to manipulate other civilizations against us. I believe they are also our trading partners. A war against them would be quite ill-advised. Starbase Fortification technology seems useful, and should be prioritized following research on Alliances and Extreme Miniaturization. As far as Alliances go, I have two questions: have we developed "close" relations with any other civilization? And does any

Wow - looking at that map, the Arceans are a monster. Whatever you did to their tech tree seems to have done a lot of good. As far as AI switching weapons goes, I've seen it occasionally. One DA game, the Krynn junked their second-tier missiles in favor of researching mass drivers. And the Korx and Altarians in my AAR have both done it - the Korx are bouncing back and forth between beams and mass drivers, while the Altarians will eventually switch to mass drivers outright (I haven

Firstly, I'd like to congratulation Viceroy Gunray on his efforts that have led to our gargantuan surplus. Our economy now appears to be safe from virtually any disaster. As such, I feel that the costs of the Neutrality Learning Center are now a moot point - we should indeed research it once Particle Beam development is complete. Should that also be completed before the end of the quarter, I feel our next priorities are Expert Miniaturization, Alliances, and Starbase Fort

Part 13: Twilight of the Iconians The Battle of New Iconia I wasted no time in ordering Task Force 42 to engage the heavy fleet of Iconians that was lying in wait. My transports were at a safe distance, and I was fully prepared for disaster - the Iconians had proven tougher then expected on numerous occasions - but what did happen was something I hadn't seen coming at all. <img src="http://i1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee492/q
