You're supposed to have a total of 10 bonus points to distribute among the different categories. It's supposed to save how you allocated them the last time. Please send me your prefs.ini file from your Data folder so that I can see what it's saving.

You will notice that there are always at least 3 planets in the Sol System: Earth, Mars and I think Saturn. The addition of other planets is random and they aren't named. It would be possible to force them to always have 5 planets but since Brad was the one doing that code, it's fairly safe to say it's implemented the way he wants it.

Is the term "Alpha Quadrant" something that was made up by the people at Paramount or is it actually used by the scientific community? As for the Sol system always having 8 planets, I doubt that Brad will want to change that. The max planets for all stars in gal civ is 5. The Gal Civ universe isn't strictly identical to our universe. I have no idea how scientists number sectors or if they even have known space divided up into sectors. I just suggested the use of negative coo

Yes, I have gotten out of my depression phase. It was probably mostly because I was a teenager and teenagers are more susceptible to depression. I'm extremely happy working here at Stardock. Things have been somewhat stressful here lately, but I handle stress better than I used to. I don't think that I named any star system after myself, but I added some names to the solar system list awhile back, mostly out of literature I think.

Not necessarily, but there will be a lot who watch Star Trek, or at least have a background in higher math. Frankly, I don't think that most people will care that it starts from zero even if they don't have a background in higher math. I probably overreacted a bit, and I'm not going to bother to try to justify it at this point. In my defense though, I kept my temper enough to delete several insulting remarks before I posted it. I suppose that you managed to hit a nerve. H

Fredrik, the guy who wrote our graphics library worked on the assumption that ASCII characters would be used and anything that isn't between 'A' and 'Z' or 'a' and 'z' or one of the numbers, is considered an invalid character. I don't even know what your message your keyboard would send for your special characters, so unless you can get me more information, I can't do anything about it.

No, I was serious. I like history. :) I like peace, too. I was absolutely horrified by the reality depicted in the movie We Were Soldiers. Somehow, every other movie with war that I'd seen (The Messenger, The Patriot, etc) didn't really hit home just how awful war is. I never really liked FPS in the first place, but now I'm well and truly disgusted with anything that would make war seem entertaining. Cari is what my friends and family call me (although my given name is Carolyn). E

I had to do it in code, so it's nothing that you could do on your end. But as I said, it should have worked for a clean load, if there weren't other factors interering... xsiv-iq, if you send me your save games I can see if they will run on my build. --Cari

Well, yeah, taped and tapped wouldn't have been caught by a spell checker. Eventually, this is going to be tied into the newsgroups so you can post in outlook or netscape and it will show up both here and in outlook. At least, that's what I've heard.

OK, being called a nerd first thing in the morning might be a good substitute for caffeine, but it's not really good for my blood pressure and the rest of the people in the lab have to co-exist with me. If you're going to be insulting, don't do it for something stupid like counting from zero. First of all, as others have said, mathematicians and scientists commonly count from zero. Military time counts from zero. If it wasn't for "nerds" like mathematicians and scientists, we would
