I'm working on that bug but so far my fix has only caused other problems, so I'm going to have to try and look at it from another angle or something. It is on my list of stuff that needs to be fixed, though
CariElf
The ships used to arbitrarily choose North to exit, but that was causing problems because you could put a defender just north of an alien star and trap a colony ship underneath the planet. Now, the ships try to find an open direction before leaving orbit.
There's a new build of SmartException which generates a log file when GalCiv crashes. You can get it from this link: www.stardock.com/temp/smartexception.exe When Gal Civ crashes, Smart Exception will pop up and ask you if you want to submit information. Click the button that says Smart Exception, then click Open Log Directory. This will open up an explorer window with all the logs generated by Smart Exception. E-mail the GalCiv.EXE.CRA file to E-mail along with a description
The Tab key only finds ships that have moves left. If you press the turn button with the mouse does it work?
It should work now that I've re-worked how the ships get destroyed...we'll have to test it, of course, to make sure that there aren't any additional things we have to do.
You will have the ability to decommission ships. I'm not sure about recycling, but I think that different techs will improve your ships...
So the ship is just sitting under the star? Did it happen at the beginning of the game? I'd appreciate the saved game, and if you could tell me the name of the star to look for that would help.
Yeah, the ship data window pops up when you get a new turn because it re-selects the ship. We're working on that today.
Jack: It only scares me to think of programmers writing in FORTRAN and COBOL. :) Paul: Nah, I didn't eat any Easter eggs. I don't really like hard boiled eggs anymore (even in egg salad sandwiches) and I didn't get around to buying any chocolate ones. Everyone: thanks for your good wishes. :)
Yeah, the ability to name your saved games will come later when we have a chance to do the screen and the associated work. In the meantime, if you don't want to overwrite your saved games, rename the folder and the game will create a new one the next time it autosaves or you save a new game. This is useful for sending me saved games to help me reproduce odd bugs.
You should notice that this is fixed in the lastest update...
Ummm...there's a button and a key command but neither has code associated with it. In the meantime, you could always send them on suicide missions like I do. :)
I'll see if we have time to include it in the update...
Nevermind, I just fixed it.
You should be able to load or start a new game when you don't currently have a game running. Something that we did last week disrupted the ability to start a new game or load a saved game from within a game. I'm still tracking it down.
The weird thing is, it's the same width as the corresponding field on the system list...
ugh...CVS is always messing up the prefs.ini file, and Brad must not have checked for a conflict before he updated the files...I might have to end up removing that from the cvsstore...
It was our Easter holiday weekend, so we were off for Friday and Monday. It was also my 23rd birthday on Monday, so it was nice having a day off for my birthday. :) The highlight of my day was when my sister-in-law called from Atlanta and put my 1 year old niece on the phone. My niece doesn't talk much, but she learned a new word this weekend: "Amen." Anyway, what I'm trying to get around to saying is that I didn't look at the message boards at all this weekend or do any work. :)
You should be able to get the fourth alpha now. I don't know if Brad added any new people or not yet, but he did say that he was going to add new people again. Hey, I placed out of a whole semester of college with my AP credits. At Lawrence Tech, that would have been about $5000, give or take a couple of hundred for lab fees, books, etc. Not that it mattered financially, because I had a scholarship that paid for everything except books and lab fees, but that was another semester I didn't have to hang around pretending to look interested when I could have been working here at Stardock, and learning more by working.
You don't have the new alpha yet
Brad is back today, so we should have an alpha build out by the end of the week.
Do any other strategy games do that? I know in Warcraft 3 when you finish researching a new tech, your units automatically improve, but that's real time, so it would be really obnoxious to have to go through and individually update your units.
I want to know how someone like that even got their hands on a computer...
