I think he means (correct me if I'm wrong, Jack) that he had a colony ship on auto-pilot heading for a star. When he got there, it had already been colonized and so the ship stopped, its destination cancelled. This is normal behavior, because otherwise your ship would get stuck under the star and all sorts of lovely bugs happen.
CariElf
Jack, did you move the ship with auto-pilot? Were the other ships on auto-pilot? Do you know if the other ships had (or should have had) destinations?
They are memory leaks that have been in Gal Civ since before I came on the project. I think that it has something to do with the main system palette, but I wasn't able to figure out how to fix it. It's not integral to Pear because otherwise it would have shown up in LightWeight Ninja, so it is something that we're doing wrong. --Cari
Fredrik: to cancel its destination, select it again. I'll fix it so that it will actually change its destination.
Solitair: do you have a sound card, and were there any error messages at the beginning of the debug.err file relating to sound?
Ugh. I thought that I'd gotten rid of that completely. Anything helpful in the debug.err file?
Yes, this bug has been reported before, and I knew about it before it was reported. Someone (probably me) is going to have to go through and make sure that everything is cleared and re-initialized properly for a new or saved game. It attempts to do it now, but I obviously missed some stuff.
I don't know, but I'm not looking forward to it. :(
That's even with the fix? I thought that I'd checked all the sliders...
We're aware that it's too low...we've never had an easy time encoding fonts and we're still working on it. I had meant only to test it and then I forgot to put Arial back.
Hmmm...well, I thought it was only up, down, left, right...diagonal could be incidental if you have two sectors unexplored next to each other.
Well that was bizarre...I started playing on a gigantic galaxy. Didn't have any problems starting up, but then the game crashed because the keyboard focus was null but not its callback...
Dungeon Seige might give both Warcraft3 and NWN a run for their money, though. It looks like it's going to be awesome! And I'm still not caught up with all the games I didn't have time to play when I was in college. I'm making progress but that might slack off once I try quitting caffeine again. :( --Cari
On the other hand though, if you're trying to send a ship there, having the bracket remain lets you know where you were looking a second ago.
Logically it should but I think that the drawing code isn't that smart. :) I'll have someone look into that.
Ick...that is weird...I haven't tested without the auto turn for awhile. Was there anything in the debug.err file and can you reproduce it? Then again, recent changes to auto turn might fix it...
That's by design. The theory behind this implementation is that you might be able to see stuff on the edges of your sensor range, but you wouldn't be able to tell if they were inhabited or who owned the system. So you can see white stars in unexplored sectors that are adjacent (N, S, W, E) to an explored sector.
Hopefully the recent tweaks to the code will take care of this problem...but I don't know if Brad was planning on an update for Friday or Monday.
Yeah, that would be an interesting ploy. A lot of the time, right after you take out the defenses of a planet, it's immediately targeted by another race so if your transport is still on the way, you have to hope that your ship is up to keeping away any comers, plus whatever defense the planet can muster..
Ugh...I guess I'm going to have to start testing more on gigantic galaxies...
John, Do you mean some kind of progress indicator for how far along you are on your projects? There will be lines on the Planet list. xsiv-iq: are you saying that the scrollbars to the right of the boxes do not work? They should work, even without the tabs.
No, I meant that you would eventually want to stop diverting resources. To do any of this, you would have to have some kind of interface. I know that you guys want more control over the planets, but you're going to have to wait until the planet details screen and governors are implemented; otherwise, anything we would do would be throwaway code and art. Rather than diverting the resources of the Gal Civ development team and thereby decreasing production, you'll enjoy the end results
OK, so if I'm reading this correctly, you want to see a list of military and social projects that have been built on that planet. That will be on the Planet detail screen. The arrows at the top of the screen switch between solar systems that you have colonized. In the future, there will be a button that you can use to switch it to go through all your colonized planets. Once you select a ship to build, it keeps building that ship unless you disable Auto-Build on the options menu. <
Alex is feeling his power today. :) --Cari
Um, did you check to see if it was in orbit of your star? --Cari
