I'm not sure if there is a cap because that's not one of the things that I work on, but I do know that it takes forever to get yourself out of the hole when your people are in the pits of despair. :) --Cari, who is exhibiting a flair for the dramatic today.

Do you mean, if you're not building a ship, but you are building a social project, convert the military resources to social resources for that planet, and convert both military and social resources to research resources if you don't have any projects? An interesting proposition, but I'm not sure that it would be easily implemented because there would have to be a way for you to un-convert them if you wanted to build something.
The pie chart reflects how much spending power you have, which can be more critical than the number or quality of planets that you have. If you have zilch spending power because your poplace is unhappy and production has ground to a halt, you can very quickly end up a sitting duck.
OK, the Find key is now using the same code as the Tab key, so it should work at least partially. As for it not finding the ship again with the tab key, you should be able to find it the next turn when all the search marks are cleared. I'll play with the code to see if I can get it to find the ship again before the next turn without it continually staying on that ship.
You can only mess with the AI because we left that in for debug purposes.
When the governors are implemented, you will be able to queue and prioritize both social projects and ship building.
Hmm that's weird...something overwrote your data...I haven't gotten any of those crashes for weeks...
How about Terran - Reckless? (The Terrans are called reckless in the cutscene because they invented hyperdrive and threw off the balance created by stargates being the only way to travel long distances.)
Umm...that could be the bug that I fixed where it was getting stuck on a selected ship and not letting you scroll except to follow the ship.
The last four messages happen when you alt-tab away, and I don't know that the scout targeting the dead ship would cause a lock-up...was the game actually frozen, or could you just not get another turn?
Probably since it's tradition. :) I didn't mean to imply that we were going to be taking out Alt-F4; I just meant to say that I added Ctrl-Q because I wanted a quick and simple way to exit. I like Ctrl-Q, probably because most of the games that I played when I was growing up used it, and it's less of a reach than Alt-F4.
If it happens again, let me know what other programs you're running, and check your system resources. The gigantic galaxy takes up the most memory so that's the only thing that I can think of, off hand.
Are you saying that it didn't happen again? I've started a game with a gigantic galaxy a couple of times today and had no trouble. Could be a memory issue.
Auto build means that once you select a ship for a planet to build, it keeps on building that ship until there are no more orbit slots free. I will check the gui, though, to see why it's not saving the button states.
What preferences??
No, it's ok. I did make a bunch of fixes on my end yesterday and the sysoptions.mtd was supposed to be fixed, but as I explain in the note that I just posted, all of the files were read-only and so the changes that Brad posted didn't take. I believe that he will be fixing that today, so hopefully you'll have some bug fixes by tomorrow.
Yesterday's update did not work because our version control software automatically sets all the files to read-only after they have been checked in or updated. So, you need to change all of your gal civ files' attributes to not read-only. We'll be fixing the problem on our end, so this is a temporary fix for you. You can get the file here: http://www.stardock.com/temp/galciv/sysoptions.mtd
Was this the same machine that had the problems with the sound card? That might also cause that sound system error. You had pressed the Turn button and it crashed? Actually, since the Turn button is supposed to play a sound when clicked, that could have caused it to crash if there's something goofy with the sound...
Ummm...I'm a bit confused from reading the above posts and from reading way too many bug reports in the last 2 days... When you build a ship or social improvement on a planet, you do it for just that planet. Your other planets go on building their projects. The allocation of resources on the domestic policy screen is for the entire empire, so you do want to try to have a balance. When I start out, I usually give highest priority to building ships and research, allocating only enough s
a big YES! That's why I put in the Ctrl-Q. :)
Erm...it's supposed to put the ship in orbit of Sol if it can't find room around the planet. The "attempt to play unregistered file" is an error message from the sound system... You should have these files in your sfx folder: click1.wav click2.wav click4.wav click5.wav Event.wav explosion.wav
There is the option to turn off the auto turn. If you hit Esc, it should bring up the options menu, and then you click Game Options and it should be listed there. Yes, the random button does work. It doesn't move anything because then you'd know what its value was.
Yeah, that's a result of temporary code that I put in there to keep ships from getting trapped under the planet if they weren't able to colonize or conquer the planet in time. --Cari
Were the debug messages slowing you down at all? I was getting that and a couple of messages about ships, and it slowed my system down to a crawl... --Cari
If you exit to the main menu, you've effectively quit your game. I forgot to warn people. :( Clearing a game and starting a new one hasn't been fully implemented yet; apparently I haven't found all of the stuff to reset yet.
