One night of noneplaying thus I completely missed it. But this is probably what happens if the AI gets to cheat like it does in eg Civ3. Looking at your comments the AI gets REALLY scary when it gets to cheat like madness. And this was only about constructors... scary ;)

Holy smoke, one night I miss out on playing the game and blam I've missed a complete update ;) Good thing that it's almost weekend!
I don't think that anything has been 'taken away' from me with the patches that have been released. Every patch has improved different aspects of the game thusfar. Some cheesetactics were eliminated, great, who needs them? Like Yin says, the game is still very accessible for casual gamers (even more than in the beginning) but the challenge for the higher levels gets constantly bigger, which is a good thing IMHO. Guys, please don't turn this civilized board into a personal flame
My goodness another update! Way to go Stardock :D ~SDC~
Brad and Stardock are still negotiating with a European publisher. If they finally get a publisher for Europe it will still take some more time to get the game here. Disciples II, Kohan and Freedom Force are sad examples of this. Don't count on a European release before the summer I'd say. Your only other option is a store that has imported the game, like Freya says.
Ray is right. Culturalbombing is 'easy' if you know how to play the game. I do think that Beyond Human is still a bit too easy too, especially in bigger galaxies. I think the AI should also be able to reach 'Beyond Arcean/Torian/Drengin/Yor/Altarian'. Like Ray said though. Try to win by military conquest on masochistic, that should be a different ballgame. Not impossible, but much harder than the cultural victory.
The Altarians and Drengin are the biggest pain in the ass. They seem to keep up all the way to the end. I have seen games where the Yor or Torians would dominate. But since the Torians are a bunch of softies (yep also when you put them on evil) I usually manage to stay out of trouble with them and somehow they manage to screw up their winning position. The Arceans are up there every once in awhile when they have gotten a good starting location. I'm gonna give it a spin on a sma
I knew that was going to happen, that's why I didn't order the cd. I have had this when I ordered Disciples II SE from EBgames USA. The game cost met $59,95 but along came shipping costs and import taxes (thanks to the dutch government). My game ended up costing $95 in the end. Luckily Disciples II was a great game too and I played it A LOT. I found the option to download the game an excellent one. Although I knew I was going to miss out on the cd and case I had the game (Dreng
I have Drengin for the full price so it's time to complain then! ... Well, since I've had nothing but fun with GalCiv (and the Corporate Machine) let's not complain after all :D ~SDC~
Jack it's not the (rc).071 version showing there but the newly released 1.02Z.002 patch that Brad posted today. It is supposed to be newer than .049 but seems to have a few oddities. ~SDC~
It has to do with range. Your colonyship can only travel so far in the beginning of the game. You can do research to increase range or you can colonize a planet closer to those 'range borders' to extend your range. Building starbases on the borders also increases range. ~SDC~
In the new betaversion 1.02Z I noticed when starting a new game that both Industrialists and Universalists have a +20 trade bonus, which doesn't make sense at all. Mercantalist get the trade bonus plus another bonus. ~SDC~
Hmmm just noticed when starting a new game that both Industrialists and Universalists have a +20 trade bonus, which doesn't make sense at all. Mercantalist get the trade bonus plus another bonus. Typical betabug I guess. ~SDC~
I third that. Try setting the Drengin to 'good' and watch how they act quite a bit different! Also if they don't have a very good starting position they're not nearly as threatening. I completely ruined them in my last game by using their extortion tactics against them, since they were way too weak to deal with me ;p ~SDC~
Yeah! On the second day of Easter our true Brad brings to us... a new patch for our beloved game :) ~SDC~
I also hope this can be resolved since you could really use the money of the extra trade routes during the end game in bigger galaxies. ~SDC~
A mere 50 but man did that planet put out research! ~SDC~
Nah, just GalCiv. No tactical combat as it ruins the AI. Only the graphics of this game could have been better. ~SDC~
Yep both are abandonware so you can download them somewhere from the internet. MoM is a true classic (with horrible AI, but which AI isn't compared to GalCiv's AI :)) ~SDC~
Could be Asmo, but I DO think it's a 'bug' too. Even when technologically you're rocking compared to the other races it only says 'we're doing okay technologically". ~SDC~
True happens to me too but I never really thought about it.
Excellent review which lists the positive and less positive things and rates those like they should be rated. The AI is such a major factor in this game that it's way more important than graphics and some minor UI issues. I fully agree with Unicorn about reviewsites I trust(ed). Luckily Firingsquad is still one of them along with Sharkyextreme. Both sites are not game-specific sites and they don't review EVERY game that comes out. When they do a gamereview though, it's usually
Yes Hery you can load your saved game with the new patch installed and continue playing your current game.
The latest patch should have solved this problem. Trade goods give you certain benefits. Those are described when you start building it. When you have one you can trade the 'user license' to other races so that they get the benefits of the good too, but they pay you good money for it. ~SDC~
Go to Tools, Settings -> Show application revisions. ~SDC~
