You make some good points. Maybe the AI plays a smarter game on the top AI levels? Not sure, the highest I have played so far is only Bright. Some things I have noticed: 1) They dont consider the current stats value of a ship/target before attacking. One of my favorite tactics is to take the USS Hero and park in the rear area of whoever I am at war with. The Hero usually has great defense (15-20 usually, when the best ship around is a frigate, maybe) by the time a war start

OK, played a few games on another comp, and saw some of the same things in its debug.err file, specifically the memman.cpp errors and the font errors. Didnt see those play animation errors though, and also didnt have the combat slowdown problem. The machines are very different, and I also installed the game differently. I did a total download install whereas on my main machine I installed with the CD, then used SDC to get updates. So I probably will reinstall on my main machi

Actually, this one seems to be the most common: Debug Message: Could not find animation titled Default in model 35Decoration (PlayAnimation) and this one comes up sometimes also: Debug Message: Could not find animation titled Icon24Trans in model 0ecobase01 (PlayAnimation) I see stuff like this in that file also, but it doesnt seem to coincide with my problem: Debug Message: MWinEditFields::Create - Unable to find sprite sizing graphic for NameInpu

Sometimes my combat animations and explosions grind to a halt, I mean a ridiculous halt, like 60+ seconds to complete. When this happens, I see one of the following messages(listed from most common to least commonly occurring), depending on ship type I think, output to the debug.err file: Debug Message: Could not find animation titled Default in model 35Decoration (PlayAnimation) Debug Message: Could not find animation titled Default in model 0Decoration (PlayAnimation) Debug

Found this in the debug.err file that seems to coincide with this problem occurring: Debug Message: Could not find animation titled Icon24Trans in model 0ecobase01 (PlayAnimation) Another thing that is in there a few times is: *DEBUG ERROR: *** Unable to locate font Verdana07Race12B, FTDataManager::FindFont *** *DEBUG ERROR: *** Unable to locate font Verdana07Race11, FTDataManager::FindFont *** *DEBUG ERROR: *** Unable to locate font Verdana07Race12B, FTDat

I dont generally use them. In fact I have only used them once. I dont use them because I really have no need to. Shrinking a planet's population doesnt have a crippling impact on production, and playing on normal/bright my troops seem to get about a 5 to 1 kill ratio most invasions. I think that taking a star system is too easy and should be tweaked some. The defenders need more of an inherent advantage. olaf

Agree that the dreads are a little too good. I think they should be better than battleships by a fair margin, no problem in that department. But they are better than Rangers when you consider what you get for the price. That needs to change I think. Phoenixes are not that great either, I never build them. olaf

Yeah this would be cool. As it stands, sinking money into the espionage slider doesnt have a whole lot of practical upside. Being able to see all their stats is nice, but doesnt give vital intel, or really anything that you cant infer from other sources. olaf

Aye, this ought to be fixed. Also, how much tribute an AI will give when faced with extinction ought to be looked at too. I like how they go all ought to save themselves, but you can squeeze too much money out of them even so. olaf

The events are good for the most part, IMO. I think two are unbalanced, or can be, though. The one where every planet around one star gets boosted by like 15 class levels, and the one where you find ass loads of good ships. olaf

Heh. This guy's post reminds of the venerable: I have subscribed this newsgroup for a month. I thought you people are discussing all kind of strategy games. Since i am also crazy about turn-based all real-time strategy games, I had great expectation on this group. But you all f_cking people have only big mouse. Many people follow the someone's notes (totally not related to strategy games), and those f_cking messages gave me f_cking headache. I know you all have freedom to

I think they need to change that. I havent tested extensively, how much diminishing returns is there? Any? It seems to me that being able to send all your routes to one planet would be overpowered as you could pick the 'best' route and line it with +trade starbases and make a mint. olaf

No one else experiencing this? It still happens to me. Turning explosions off helps, but it doesnt fix it totally. Always happens late in a game, when it does happen. And it has to do with the save, so rebooting, etc. doesnt help. It happens on my other comp too, which has totally different specs, so I cant believe I am the only one seeing this. Any ideas? olaf

There are a lot of ways to play and win this game. As for the long tech tree, it doesnt have to come into play at all if you play on small or tiny. Even medium really, you have to go out of your way to win via tech. I love this game, it is the most fun I have had with a TB strat game since MoM. olaf

Under the Foreign Policy screen, the stats tab, the Yor are listed as being in first place for the treasury category. They have negative 5700 in the bank though... I am playing the latest windowed version. olaf
