This thread seems to proove that the game is very different each time you play. To this point I have been culturally conquered by the Drengin, had a war that lasted over 50 years with the Yor (that game was pretty close, and if I had not had built a terror star at the very last second, I think I would have been assimilated into their collective). That would also have happened with the new battle hammers, since they were my last line of defense, orbiting around my planets. In my current

Well, they did help me see some of the game mecanics. Since it's Brad/frogboy himself who made them, I don't think it's just "fan fiction" (I must admit that last time I had a look there, there were only his AAR, and that's the ones I'm talking about). It's more than a nice addition to a somewhat limited manual. And, yes I must admit, they are also a "good read" ;p

Ransom Richardson, I don't know the mathematical value, but there is definetly a big bonus for ships defending in orbit. When at war and losing it (more often than I would like to admit ;p , once my best ships have been taken out and it's clear I won't stand a chance until I've rebuilt, I order all my ships to fall back in order to protect all planets against invasion. This way they aren't destroyed by more powerful ships (in orbit I've noticed they can win) and it delays the land

pdifolco, *D'ailleurs je vois que nous sommes presque "voisins"* ;) I think that reducing the AMM to such a low attack would make them near useless. Specially againt endgame ships. In another thread there was someone complaining about the overpowered excalibor ship, that his overlords couldn't even scratch. In this situation, the AMM high attack is crucial. Without it, you would stand no chance if the computer reaches that tech level before you do.

Have you recently upgraded to Drengin.net? I read somewhere that some people had problems after (I may be wrong). Have you tried writing to one of the emails that Frogboy gave in various threads? Maybe he can help. Since yesterday you are the second person I see complaining about reply delays from stardock. Maybe they are in a rush right now. Maybe you can try the chat room in SDC, from time to time frogboy is there. I'm sure he would at least try to help you. I know all this is

Yes, I must agree, the constructors ballet can get tiresome, specially without rally points. Maybe they could implement the multi-modules constructors that some people were talking about in the mod forrm. I would certainly cut down the constructors micromanagement in mid-end game.

"#26 by Diplomat Solitair - 5/2/2003 3:58:06 AM There's a big difference between 'playing' the metaverse and 'submitting' to the Metaverse. " I agree with Solitair. I play Galciv as often as I can, which is not nearly as often as I want (:( , and win or lose I submit to the metaverse. But if I do so is in the hope that at some point in the game development, the metaverse will be used as it was designed to do: make a better, smarter, more devious AI. As

Solops, Have you tried writing to one of the emails Frogboy gave in various sticky threads? Maybe he/his team can directly help you. :) As for burning a CD I don't think it would pose a problem. I got the game through stardock, downloaded it, and burnt it to a cd. There are no legal issues that I can think of, considering I downloaded it and therefore must save it to some reliable media. If I remember correctly, this was expected so should work fine. Maybe someone more infformed can

Za01, I just checked it. And you are right. Sorry, forget all I said before. (:( When amnesia strikes, it seems the only way to know where the planet is, is to click in the galaxy button (whch takes out the planet screen as you mentioned) look for the planet, and then come back and make the decisions :( . It can be quite long in big galaxies. Maybe they can make the minimap (centered on actual location) available from planet screen. That would partially solve the

Sometimes Ih have this feeling as well (that I have to hit endturn twice, before AI ships move). But, Since the AI has been able to put up more than an honorable fight, I guess their threads were "kicking in" (an me ;) ) I'll check it in my next game. ~SDC~

I don't remember exactly (and can't check it now) but it seemed to me that even in the planet screen if you click in one of the buttons below (planet list, ship list, galaxy) you can have the minimap back. I too happen to have this planet-location-amnesia in the late-game, due to too many planets :notsure: If this is correct, I hope it helps. ~SDC~

I think you are being a bit harsh. Personally, I never had any problems with galciv or SDC. But I wouldn't know why :p (I'm not very computer litterate). I remember in the begining, some people had problems with the installation. Maybe it was not cpmpletely unistalled (key registry, etc) and this is making SDC think you are up to date. Anyway, what is it going on?! Two people complaining about too many updates :sniff!: I'll leave now, go play & create a better world

I think this message is the one that indicate that this race (the arceans, for you) will randomly get some bonus points every turn to one of its capabilities (attack, hitpoints, pop, etc...). So if you wait too long you will end up with an enemy too powerful to be handled with :sniff!: . In my previous game, I think the Yor had that and at some point ahead the only way I could save myself was restricting myself to a defensive war (keeping my ships in orbit) while I build several constr

In my current game, my terror star started out with one move/turn. Then it joined with its defense fleet. After a few turns, and maybe when I reloaded the saved gae the next day, it had 6 MP (like my dreads I think). And it remained that way ever since. (I'm still playint on 1.02.049).
