Thks again Ray. Your precise knowledge of this game amazes me. I'm quite grateful for the time you spent here helping the community. So since everyone is allied to everyone in my game (with one exception: me - arceans) my game will be alliance victory or bloodbath stalemate... :) When I get home after work, i'll try tricking an enemy ship to attack a fleet of mine. I'll let you know the results.
Personally, I rather have consistency. Include fleet bonuses or not include them. Not having bonuses for attack but having them for defense seems weird to me.
I agree with you. Thks for clearing things out for me. I have the GCX beta, but have no clue on how to test if there is a bonus or not (it would be nice to know, since this evening I'll be attacking my ennemies, as I told you in another thread -- strategic forum). By the way, since you're here

Vincible, well I guess accurate info is good news, even if by itself it looks bad... ;) Thanks for correcting me. Ray, so you're saying that fleets are not supposed to have a bonus but do have because of an error that is supposedly corrected, and yet not? I guess this means there is still hope? :) This feature would be very nice, but I don't know how difficult it would be to balance it (depending on numbers, ship's class, mix of ships, etc)

I was just about to say I agreed when I decided to check the updated manual and had a nice surprise: " Tip: While combat is resolved one-on-one, if the defender is in a fleet, they do get some bonuses, reflecting the support the other ships can provide. Tip: If a fleet is attacked, the vessel with the highest combined attack and defense values will defend first. If there are two ships with the same value, then the ship with the highest remaining hit points def

As Geoffrey Montgomery and Yellow Sign said, you don't pay to become a beta tester. You pay for a subscription to drengin.net, which allows you to have all stardock games, and as a bonus one might add, you get to have patches and in this case the ex-pack a bit earlier. This means you can also help developpers, and therefore be a beta tester. Everybody gets the expack free when it's completed. I just took the drengin sugscription to support brad&Co for their great work
Also, with the war couple turns old, the AI often sends transports out which of course lowers their pop there too.
Good point! I hadn't thought about that! Let's get ready to shoot those transports! :d

On a side note and to be completely fair play, my alliance victory wouldn't be a real victory: since everybody would be allied with everybody, anyone can claim the victory for themselves! Will we all be on the highest step of the galactic podium?

Thks Ray, I've read many of your posts, very informative. :) Certainly a great help for the community. I try not to load/save. But I'm not against creating an alternate universe / quantum reality where I ended up allied whith these evil arceans. (I tend to play only good alignement games, and never allying and even avoiding trade with evil races). I haven't started a war yet in this game, and all in all I've destroied only 2 or 3 enemy ships (a random war event). I'll give

Hello guys, You all seem pretty well versed in the game mechanics, so maybe you can help me. It's not a maso game, far from it, but I guess what works fine up there should do well down here, at normal. Here is my situation: 4 races left (me, drengin, alterians (who looks human), and the yellow one). Thanks to a huge galactic recession I came back in the race, using my war chest to catch up my "military gap" while their economy was crushed. Now, the yellow guys dominate hal

CypherPack, Unless it has been changed recently, there is no bonus for having ships in a fleet. So when they attack, they go one at a time. So if your corvette's attack is lower than the frigate's defense, then your 10 corvettes won't do much damage to her. In previous versions of the game (before they rebalance the ships' stats) I had about 30 corvettes attack my dreadnought and be all destroid, and only halving my ship's hitpoints. So I'd say you're better off with a frigate

My games take lonnnnnnnnnnnng (but I like i like that :) ). Until now, the only way I could finish a game in say, 4 hours, is to loose by that time (:( , which happens far more often than I would like to admit in 1.04b ;) . I guess I'll have to take the AI down one level

I did like The Ancient Art of War a lot, I used to play it on a Mac with a tiny black & white screen. More recently, the only games that I played a lot and for a long time were in the Total War series (Shogun, Mongol Invasion, Medieval). They are great turn based strategy and real time tactical battle games. Medieval is the only one that I still play since I got galciv. But no matter how good galciv is, I do miss the diplomatic options from SMAC and from Europa Universalis II.

Good point Twirlip. I didn't fought about the double registration thing, I just remembered that you can have it on several computers -- but with the same serial/registration account. That must be it. lokiju, Frogboy (developer/programer) is often here and in the chat forum. Maybe you can ask him direcly. I'm certain you'll get a straight/direct answer. Good luck ~SDC~

The person you traded with may have forgot to send you the serial number. If this was the case you can ask for it maybe? Or he kept it for himself so he could keep on playing and having the updates since you don't need the cd to play. And quoting you: "Last time I ever consider a game through this company." If you are talking about Stardock you are very wrong: first you didn't buy the game from this company otherwise you would have a serial number ; and second, you you had the seria

To add something to RayChua post, "don't fleet your TS with the scort" if you don't want to cheat (the terror star might get as many movements as the ships, in my game where it happened it had 6 moves until I realised what was going on).

13 Replies 417 Views

and you have to move your TS until it reaches the star system sou want to...ehh ... vaporise. But at 1/turn it can take forever. And don't forget to have a strong fleet defending your TS. A ring of dreads around it is better than a stack I think. Now, good luck and be patient, it will eventually get where you want it... ;) By the way, I'm not sure you need any aditionnal tech once you have completely built the terror star.

Buy it and have it sent to you by stardock. That's what I did (although I ended up downloading it before it arrived, I could not wait ;) ). And there are some shops in europe selling it (I saw some posts in this forum saying so). ~SDC~

Ubertaco, To quote from the thread I mentioned above (see the link): " #12 by Veteran Code Monkey - 5/3/2003 12:51:50 PM It's been explained before: each round of combat the best attacker squares off with the best defender (exception being AM Missiles). This process goes back and forth until one stack (or sometimes even both) are destroyed. So, no matter how big the stacks, all combat is resolved ship to ship singularly. " And Code Monkey usually has accura
