A heads up about the update. This was just posted in another thread: #13 by Veteran Geoffrey Montgomery - 7/31/2003 4:27:22 PM don't install the update it's either missing a file or deletes a file that makes the game unplayable (:( But I am sure there will be a fix soon, there always is :) ~SDC~ [Message Edited]

I just caught up with the rest of the posts here. Congrats indeed Ray! ~SDC~
Just to let ya know...CariElf is female...
Oooooooops! (thanks for the heads up Theoden) Sorry about that CariElf. :) I just saw the new update is up. Thank you to you all! :CONGRAT: ~SDC~
The new update to the expansion pack is out!! This one should make some people very happy: "1) It now lets you enable cheat keys which let you do some really crazy stuff in game (scores to the metaverse won't be counted when this option is enabled). For instance, you can clone ships, unhide the whole map, teleport ships, automatically have the game colonize all free planets equally so you can skip the colonization phase and move right into the main game, give yourself money, etc.
More importantly, can it ever happen to you?
In the games I played it happened almost everytime, BUT I never had it happening to me (nor have I read about it). So I guess no is the answer.
I'm out of ideas now :notsure: . If you connect yourself with stardock you can try the chat room. I always see there someone from the staf of galciv. Just now there is carielf connected. I'm sure he can help you if you ask him. If he is not you can try posting another thread, with a more specific title (someone more informed than I will certainly help you). Or make a search in the forum for "lock password or "invalid sn". I've already seen other people before with a similar pr
I think one of the possible issues is that you must type it exactly as it is on the email stardock sent you when you purchased the game. My best advice is copy and paste as it is directly fronm that mail. If you don't have it anymore, wust write it (careful for zeros and "o"'s or L and I). I hope this solves your problem. ~SDC~
What I meant was the empire that gets it is far weaker than you, so it needs help to compete with you. I've never seen the event help out much. Has anyone ever seen any real changes from it?
Ok, then we agree :) . I think in another game it did help the Yor: I was at war for a long time with many other races (simultanously or one after the other, trapped in there by the multiple alliance thing), so the Yor stayed in their corner alone, getting stronger. When my
The more and more powerful event happens in almost everygame I play. And it can be a real problem: In my last game, hopefully late in the game, the Drengin had this. But they were nowhere close to being weak. I was 1st (after reducing the arceans fleet to pieces, ex n°1) and the Drengin second, far behind me, but far ahead of eveyone else. But it was ok, because the game ended soon after that. [Message Edited] [Message Edited]
Good morning, gang...gotta do some work today. Yesterday, I didn't get a thing done.
Same situation here: yesterday and today's work is to be done now... So less talk. Maybe this evening
About resources: I think they change the game dramatically. I have an example...the Drengin got to a resource before me and it happened to be right in the middle of my empire. This sort of peeved me, as it was near a Drengin colony that also just happened to be in the midd
Well, I've never played at these levels, but I did have both events you describe (more & more powerful and fundamentalists taking over my empire) in all other levels (easier ones, I mean). [Message Edited]
Welcome Droid, I didn't use to post on boards either, but if you stick around you'll see that people here are very friendly and their knowledge of ingame mechanics endless. Hope to see you around. :)
You must register your serial number in it (I think it's under "tools"). Once you have registered, you go to the software page, and you should find there all there is to download (galciv, bonus pack, updated manual, etc). [Message Edited]
Do you have stardock central Corsus? If you do, you can just download it again i guess. If you don't have it, you can find it in the downloads section. Then you register your product with sdc and you can download the game again. To avoid doing that all the time I suggest you use the archive fonction in sdc and then save it to a cd rom, making it easier to reinstall later if need be. I think there is also a direct download link for the game (without sdc, but i'm not sure whe
by Citizen arobertson - 7/29/2003 8:29:06 PM Nastavnik in russian means something like Professor or Mentor That would make you a Sage - if you know your onions.... Alex
Yes, Sage does have a nice ring to it... Although some people who knows me (particularly wife & close friends) might disagree from time to time ;) . But I do know much more than just my onions... :HOT:
ou can always destroy the colony - it's in the details screen
Thus proving their point, hein? ;) ~SDC~
Just build a few extra colony ships put 1 mil pop on them and colonize planets to up your alignment. I've noticed negative modifiers usually do not stack. Since 13 and 14 colonies are viable if you can put soil enhancers and habitant improvements on them quickly.
Yes I'll try that. I've been reading a thread in the strategic forum about colonizing below 15 worlds, where they suggested doing that. But if I go to far below 15, it's my people who will start calling me Nasty.
Good job, Nasty!! Can I call ya that?
LOL Only on my bad days... ;) ~SDC~
I think your average alignment needs to be above 85 or so. You'll need a few 100's to pull it up there.
Yes, I've been trying to do that, but I have the feeling that there are not enough events in my games to allow me to reach such moral heights ;) I noticed that either everything goes fine, and the game ends too soon for that , or I get crushed like a bug right away (or just a regular crushed, a little later on); anyway, not enough events (for the moment). <
I recently finished a game played with the 1.09 beta version of GalCiv, and while my upload of the results at the end of the game was reported as successful, it has not shown up on the metaverse web page. And in a quick search through the scores of the best players I can find no report of a game played with a version higher than 1.05.It's not a big deal, but I find it hard to understand why after shelling out an extra $30 to get a beta version of the program I should be rewarded by a refu
Ray, A delayed thanks for your link to the convertion page. It worked! You imagine my amazement when my score jumped from 62 to 4433.6. :CONGRAT: ~SDC~
I feel obligated to speak up from a modder's point of view. There are many things I could suggest, but what I would really love to have is a fully built out Events engine, with:1) Triggers2) Conditions3) Chains
I second that. But I also second Ray's suggestion for starbase governors. Even in smaller games, there is a lot of constructors going around! ~SDC~
I like to think I am.
I can tell you, from where I stand, you are. ~SDC~ [Message Edited]
Arrrrgh time to go home, but with a lot of work to do there :sniff!: (it was not a very efficient day today... but a worthwhile talk :p ) Talk to you guys later. :)
Diplomat HawaiiFive-O - 7/29/2003 11:58:40 AM Ahhh, Nastavnik. Welcome to the Fellowship! And I want to personally thank you. I stayed up way too late last night powering out my latest game- the one I hoped would take us over 900K.I was quite crestfallen when I discovered we were still 27.8 points shy! Couldn't fall asleep immediately after that, I was pretty grumpy I tell ya. But here it is the next day and I see that I got the assist. I set the table and you finished the kill. Than
