[quote quoting="post"]Hello Brad. My first and foremost favorite author would be Steven Erickson's "Malazan Book of the Fallen" series. By far the most epic piece of fiction I have ever read to date. Huge story line with massive amounts of characters, magic, races, gods, and plenty of twists and turns that never seems to let up but all have very important consequences. Great read and there are enough characters that you will love some, hate others, and some who will pro

Are you sure about that? I always thought they affect the ships in orbit, as when I park ships there as defense, their values go up.... But I've never checked to see if that was the case, just assumed that was what was happening. So.... do ships in orbit get a fixed bonus to their values? ~SDC~

Yeah, I'm enjoying it a lot too. It's the most that a strategy game has hooked me since Starcraft. Although my favorites have been: 1 Master of Magic 2 Master of Orion 2 3 Master of Orion. That's just strategy games though, counting others- this is my favorite game since Baldurs Gate 2! That was a while ago...... Not been anything really I kept coming back to, recently, like Galciv. So while it's got a bit to go before it topples MOM, it's doing incred

I just thinking of fair comparison between winning types might be difficult to achieve. If in a challenge we specify that it's a military win competition, then everyone's marching to the same tune, so to speak. Actually, I've just read that back to myself. That's a little strong isn't it? "competition" "Marching", hmmmm maybe I'm just a little too competitive! Yes I know it's intended for fun, but give people a chance and they'd compete over anything! As for using the

I've been trying to think about how to score the games. Only problem is trying to come up with some method that allows for comparison of scores between game endings. If we get loads of players that's not a problem, but if there's not too many then we may have to start limiting what we'll accept as winning conditions. Actually, I'm not sure how the game works out it's scores, but couldn't we use those on an interim basis? Whichever one suits best. We could pos

Ohhhh...... not played at that high a level yet..... I've just moved up to all AI's at Bright! Normal just wasn't fun anymore! However, now that I've got a credible early game strategy going, and I now have a grips on what's happening, I should be moving up the levels! I'll give your masochistic a go! Might be interesting. ~SDC~

OK.... Under the menu: Select Tools:register products. Galciv is under the drengin.net tab, select it from yhe drop down box in there. Enter in the requested information and serial numbers. Click update (or register, mine say's update cause I've already registered). That should be you registered! Select tools:settings. Click on show application revisions. Then go to the software tab and click drengin.net. You should hopefully see galciv there saying it's got w

Possibly the best place to look is the documentation for the Gaciv Writer. IIRC, for any given vote you set priorities for the main races. There's a few to choose from, along the lines of.... If evil...pick A If good but losing... pick one that'll benifit your ally who's winning and so on.....

The purchasing thing never reared it's head, as I've never tried to buy two things on one planet before. But in 1.04 the purchase button and the whole thing works slightly differently. You click buy, then the building being produced changes to the next one, and the purchase button dissapears. I also think the bonus from the bought building gets applied right away. I've noticed the research thing. Also the clicking enemy ships thing. Man, that one annoys me. Not noticed the colony ship t

Sounds OK to me. Have you got a list of volunteers yet to help with sorting through all the info yet? I'm willing to help if needed. It'd also be nice if we could get some features added to the game to help. That "ironman" one would be the most useful, perhaps we should politely request it? Or even if we could get this made into a temporary sticky to drum up some interest? I enjoyed the game, am looking forward to more. :d It's more of a direct way to compare and compete, I th

DonFESQ, I've had problems trying to load your gamesave under 1.03. Works fine under the 1.04 beta though. Interesting to see the conquest movie for only the second time! Also, you've included in the full foldernames for the directory of the save but not for the .sav file. No biggie, just pointing it out so other people know to look out for it.... My AAR is only a text file at the moment, got some screenshots, they bumped the upload to over a meg. Not that they're very interesting, as f

That's a "feature". It'll take 3 turns (ish) for it to build up to it's normal level. The designers say it would take up too much effort to save and reload a complete snapshot, as the calculations are a bit complicated or some such...... From reading how the influence works, from the website encyclopedia, I can understand how it could get complicated! ~SDC~

Ah that old chestnut. This seems to be a common problem. It's happened to me a couple of times, a shutdown and restart cleared it up once and another time I had to go back to a previous autosave. Because of this I set the autosave to every 2 turns, just in case. Cari-elf, one of the developers, said something about checking to see if the game was waiting for some input from you- such as choosing a planet to colonise. Give those a go, and report back! Good Luck! ;) ~SDC~

Ah, so that was the reason two of my games crashed loads at the end of the game. Thought it was something to do with that..... First time was on a gigantic galaxy where I was going for a culture win, and the second I'd put in those terraforming techs of jesusofborgs (I think it was him). ~SDC~
