Happened to me a few times. It just sits there with it's stupid clock and...... nothing. I shut down and started up again. Worked. Don't know what caused it. ~SDC~

When you launch them, the screen under where they're shown in orbit changes to a slider. Select the amount and hit launch. Unless, you've set all your planets to auto-launch. In which case it'll launch as soon as it's built as if the slider was in the middle (2500 mil, if combat transports). With transports you can reuse them, so you can send them back in to orbit (it'll distribute the troops on it evenly throughout the planets) and relaunch them if you have to. ~SDC~

Yeah, the value that you get will appear on the income section under tribute. But I've not had them get mad at me for it, after all they're getting something in return. If they refuse, then you get nothing, as do they. One thing I've never done, is demand money like the Drengin do. Must try it! Actually, just played a game as good and I'm due an evil one...... Are you running the latest version 1.03A? ~SDC~

You must be missing something out. 1) You select the tech on the left hand side you want to sell 2) From the right hand side you select payment Amount and Number of months. If the text in the box in the middle (under their portrait) stays green, then they'll accept. If it goes yellow, you'll be refused. Just maximise it until you get the most outta them! Ummm, you are playing with the most recent version, aren't you? I can't remember if the first version had the text colour

I've had the process that Scowler described work perfectly. You'll probably want to kick yourself (or me for pointing it out), but you didn't need to uninstall the game to be able to move it. GalCiv is very forgiving about that sort of thing! It can be moved about and played as you see fit. I've got 2 copies on my hard drive at the moment (one's the beta of 1.04, I'm gonna play a game later on). All you then have to do is search through the registry and change the setting for the Galciv

I've had that event recently (as in yesterday) on a fresh install of Galciv. So, there were no mods in the game. Don't ask me what the event was, I wasn't paing that much attention! ~SDC~

Oh yeah some people have said it can be reproduced if you save your game with the terror star and the other ship in the same position, that when you load it is when it happens. Actually I'm wondering if anyone has ever seen this happen to the AI? I find it hard to imagine anything scarier! ;)

This is an (in)famous one. Although my current game is the first time I've seen it! The terror star had aquired the movemnet points of the overlord I'd placed over it for defence. Then when I moved the overlord away to deal with a threat, and then moved the terror star, the overlord would "snap" back to the square where the terror star was. Now that's what I call instantaneous space travel!

Current detonator drivors are 42.35 or something like that. Anyways, there's a newer set after 41.09, which I'm running along with DX9. The long uptime's what I've attributed my problems to. I wonder if you only log off and log back in (rather than a complete reboot) would satisfy it? Actually, I've been having random lockups on bootup recently too, which might be a CursorXP problem. Or what's attempting to load just after it. Got to play about a bit before I know for certain t

That's a little insane. I've had the same event in my current game a couple of times, too. And I suppose it might account for the stupid suicide attacks the torians performed. I just thought that they got a few ships, not 99, but as I wasn't anywhere near them I didn't see them arrive. Now that you've mentioned it, it would explain a lot! :) ~SDC~

I thought the 1.02 patch too easy to keep everyone happy, and thus have no money problems. 1.03 seemed to fix it, and the game was more fun. However it is subjective, and there was a mini "heated discussion" going on about it on the Usenet strategy group. Backup your files before upgrading just in case! GalCiv lets you move it around as you see fit. Nice feature! (Tip: if you do move it, and want SDC to know where it is to update it in future, you'll have to change the registry entry fo

I've had the same problem recently. I found that hitting ctrl-alt-del will repeatedly will bring up the task manager (eventually) and you can then alt-tab to get mouse access. Then you can shut down galciv. Only thing is then it does the same thing after that. A reboot is needed and it works again. I'm using XP Pro. Have you been using your PC a lot before attempting to run GalCiv (like internet browsing for a few hours beforehand)? Looking at the file it looks like something else is ho

Something else that would be nice, would be if the ships you sell or give away stayed like they were originally. It's a bit hard to believe that they change completely when you give them away! They could even have the AI ask you why it's being attacked by 10's of Torian controlled human dreadnoughts! :)

OK found out how to rename ships! And it's not readily apparant is it? I didn't bother reading the manual, but I've been told it wasn't very good. Being able to rename ships will help my games a lot, as I sell or give ships to other poeple a lot! ;) But there's got to be a better way for the automated ones.

The drengin.net sub has been extended to 18 months. Theres a message on the website about it. AFAIK that includes the people who upgrade, like me. The info in SDC on my expiry is now October 2004. And Brad has said, that when your subscription runs out, you keep what you've d/l'ed. You won't be able to d/l any more till you re-subscribe. I suppose they'll have moved on to other games at that point, though! Or a sequel....
