I had a game once where the Torian's went nuts, and were incredibly strong, really early on. Not just getting quite a few planets (although to be fair not a huge leap in number past mine), but building an unbelievably large military. Way past that of the Drengin. I was quite shocked. I also gave up on the game, as it was my first normal diff. But in most of the other game's I've played, they've been wimps. ~SDC~

Hold on a minute... You can rename ships? OK now I feel stupid, looked for it the other night and couldn't find it. :p I REALLY wasn't awake properly last night when I started reading this thread (and others), but in my defence I work shifts and find that I'm up at really strange hours, but with much reduced mental capacity! I hate shifts.... >:( My sleep pattern's all messed up, I'm always tired, yet can't sleep. My temper's stuck on irritable, and I end up going on

Yeah. A "You can't be my friend, if you're their friend too" option. Very schoolyard, in fact. ;) Actually, I wholeheartedly agree. It'd stop some of the madness I've seen in one of my games. I was allied with the Yor, but with poor relations with the drengin, and the Yor had allied with the drengin. I had been alied with the Yor for ages (and I must say, they loved me). I declared war on the drengin, and the damn fool yor broke the alliance with me to help the drengi

I don't know..... but Brad said in the newsgroups that in the last patch he'd re-enabled certain AI routines on the higher difficulty levels for the Arceans. He was talking about some of the nasty things he can have the AI do. Stuff like ship rotation between the front line and garrisoned ships. Also a few other stuff I can't remember. Me, I still haven't played and won at normal yet! LOL ~SDC~

Yeah I know it's a funny world. But OD fit in really nicely with my idea of a new PC. I wanted something different, as much as possible. So ended up with one of those shuttle systems (small, compact and nice) and a TFT screen. Combined with OD, I have a PC that's a big step away from my normal horrible yukky crean midi tower boxes!! LOL And yes, it was quite the marketing move. But as calculated as that may have been, these guys are treating their customers with respect, and I probably

Under the file:archive menu there's an option to restore existing. As long as the archive zip is in the backup folder of the SDC program, everything should be cool. So back them up on CD, then if you want to install, just put them back. Just tried it, worked fine. The stuff in the zip that SDC downloads (like galciv.ex_), gotta be installed by SDC. They're most likely compressed, so can't be used unless they're installed properly. HTH ~SDC~

I don't think the starbases should get the +attack bonuses. They don't actually have any attack to start with, but they should get the benefits of the +defense ability percentages. I don't really know fully how the combat's worked out, like the defending rule, and how it applies to starbases. There is no +hp module for a starbase. I prefer to win by tech victory, so have seen the ending and the end of the tech tree quite often, and know there isn't one.

I must admit to not actually reading too much of the tech descriptions. At that point of the game, it's all a distraction from the action that's happening in the universe. Also was up REALLY late last night, till gone 3am, so my mind wasn't working as it should! It all goes a little strange inside....... ;)

Actually it's almost the updates that have been keeping me playing. When I see what a new one adds, I can't wait to get home and try! :) I seem to be addicted to making sure I'm running the most up to date version. Sad, I know. The updates have been adding worthwhile stuff too. But you are right, the game out of the box (or d/l) was solid. More solid than a certain other recently released space empire game! And a lot more fun, to boot. As for the perception thing, I hope they d

Actually you seen the cyberpoll on the galciv website, for allowing the computer players to win by it? I'd be really annoyed if they did, as bang and it's happened. Should be some kind "end game" to actually achieve it. I'd like it if You where building a machine like the Tyrathca "Sleeping God" (anyone read Peter F Hamiltons Nights Dawn Trilogy?) to actualy help you ascend, you'd have to defend it which would be fun if the computer went nuts trying to destroy it.... They could even unl

Under the "getting galciv beta" thread sticky at the top brad has posted the coupon and upgrade information. When you upgrade by clicking his link, you can enter the code.... and voila! Actually I sucumbed and bought it too. Bad Stardock Bad! In the last few months I've bought most of their software, started with object desktop - which I found out about by looking for galciv (which I found out about after the universal moo3 disapointment), then into Galciv, now into dr

You don't (and can't), as far as I can tell. The tech discription explains it away as a useless tech, with no practical use.... Boring, I know, but I wanna make stars...... Hey an idea just came to me, the tech discription mentions it would take a lot of hydrogen to make a star, more than could be realisticly obtained. But, Terror Stars destroy whole systems- wouldn't it be cool if, for every star you destroy you could make a new one if you had the create stars tech? A prime source of h

I think it would be a good idea to be able to name ships. In the middle to late game, I'm normally giving ships to the enemy of the most powerful civ not including me, and that would be so much easier if you could customise names. Up till now I've been giving the wrong ships away, the ones with battle experience, or are in orbit protecting a planet I don't want undefended. I suppose you lot could say why don't you make a list of the ones you want to give away, but the damned Yor keep as
