If you go into the shipyard and say, update an existing ship design: go to "add modules" and then to "add weapons" and you get a CTD every time.

Or just wait for TA to come out, i hear from a pretty credible source that it will have some very nice looking custom planet textures... Some of which were made by a very talented (and might i say damned good looking) artist that regularly visits these boards........
The way the cloud textures are selected is random, the fact you are seeing a particular texture selected more than another is pure chance. AS i said, as of now, there is no way to mod the way cloud textures are selected per planet. As per changing the sphere.x model, if you add a space station to it, it's going to be on EVERY planet in the game, including EVERY uninhabited and uninhabitable one. And obviously, unlike Space Empires, GC2 doesn't have a different model for each planet
Eh... I think you're missing my point, and making a somewhat unbalanced comparison. But just to go by your comparison, i think the game itself IS easier to the average user than navigating that color menu would be, they'd take one look at it and say, WTF!? The game itself isn't very WTF. And besides that, it's so overkill it's not even funny. All you need is RGB sliders and a color map, if you want to get fancy, some HSL sliders, but that's all you need. You don't need a menu that looks lik
If you replace the sphere.x file, it will be the same for every planet on the map, not just select ones. And it isn't the cloud textures aren't moddable, they are, its just that they are used for all planets, you can't define different cloud textures for different planets. At this time that is...
This particular topic has been discussed to death around here i'm afraid.
Are you kidding? That's way too complicated for an average user, it would confuse the hell out of people, and would put them off. Hell, it's confusing the hell out of me and i'm a graphic designer and digital artist.
Next thing you know, you'll be asking for high-res planet textures! Guess it's a good thing i have them .
Hehe It's a good suggestion , but too much work for this expansion Perhaps GC3!
TELL ME ABOUT IT!
heightmaps aren't going to be used at all in TA, so if you're just going to play TA then you won't need to add or remove anything.
Depends on whether or not you want to wait for the TA release (though it sounds like you have the beta already), whether you still play GC2 or DA, and what connection speed you have.
There is no geographical 'territory' in the game. The graphical borders you see are the extent of your cultural influence, not really your 'territory'. The other races are free to come and go as they please . My vote is, shoot them if they're colonizing planets you don't want them to!
All of the weapons FX are being updated for Twilight of the Arnor .
Please post your debug.err file
I don't like the new ship textures, they look overdone and very cheesy. The old ones were better in my view, more realistic looking.
Are you daft!?
So, as a geek, can I get maybe a little technical explanation of how you've improved the graphics, reduced memory usage and increased framerate? Since that goes completely against pretty much any other game I've seen and I want to know how you geniuses pulled that off:)
One of the main ways this is being done is the elimination of the fractal planet textures. In GC2 and DA, habitable planet textures were fractally generated patterns, uniquely created by the game each ti
The new civ capital tile is very ugly to me, out of proportion to the surrounding city on the tile, and looming rather than uplifting aesthetically. (Plus it reminds me of an ormilu egg cozy co-opted as a plaything in the sand box.) Is it possible we could have a choice of this one or the old one, or better yet, a capital structure unique to each race, architechture reflective of their culture? For instance, I wouldn't mind so much using this one for the Krynn, maybe. <b
Well we'll have to respectfully disagree on some issues . But i never meant to say they were completely self-contained, obviously they would require food and other consumables from an outside source, what i means was that within the structure, all the means for getting access to that food would be there, ala grocery stores, food courts, restaraunts, etc... Which ties it even more into the idea of the food and population issues with
Arcologies (for those unaware) are super-buildings, basically self-contained cities in a single, huge building, a building that may be miles high, and even larger in base diameter. This would support a vast population in a contained 'small (relative to planet size)' area. Since the Arcologies are self-contained, everything needed for everyday life (places to work, schools, restaurants, and of course, housing) are all within the structure, there is no nee
While i disagree that there is no point in building morale improvements on non-bonus tiles (esp in TA), i do wholly like the suggestions made here. This has been an ongoing bone of contention in my games, to the point where i stopped trying to build up significant population on planets. If i were to have a super-populated planet, 50% or more of it's tiles would have to be morale improvements just to maintain a basic morale level, leaving little room for the improvements to take advantage of th
GIMP is probably your problem here, but there are tons of other free graphics programs you can use to do this easily, just google for them .
Well if you're using 32bit PNGs that implies you're using an alpha layer, possibly to handle the transparency, however that isn't neccessary and may be your problem. Kryo is right, you should be using 24bit PNG files (however the dimensions are less of a requirement, i've used up to 512x512 images for logos, but you will see some errors on certain screens if you go that high). What you should do is start with a transparent canvas, and then paste in your design, saving the file as a s
I've never heard of such a bonus O.o
Emm, you didn't install IBM's drivers for your video card right, i mean you went to ATi's website and used their latest version? If you didn't, you need to chuck those IBM drivers and grab the ones from ATi, and make sure you've updated DirectX as well.
