Ellestar is working on a large/ masochistic Game of the Month. In the meantime I am working on a medium/ bright game. I guess both will be released at the end of this month. The medium/ bright game will have some nice surprises and tweaks. Be prepared :D !

You can also play the Galciv Game of the Month, if you want to compare your skills against other players ;p http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GF&ID=59314#61694
maximilian1978 and shadovv: I haven't got any problems looking at the galciv.reallyrules site (maybe it was temporary). Are there any other people with problems. If so, I can try to locate an other host for the website. For information and the savegame, you can also visit: http://apolyton.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=85972 Good luck!
there were a few parallels and a few places where we were opposites. hope you enjoy reading my aar. the format is similar since i copied some html from the gotm site to format my text. I loved your AAR! It was a lot of fun to read what we did different. We both colonized a lot of the same start, but I had a rough time because I chose the 'other' path.
[I want "edit" >:( ]
You got mail!! Looking forward to your AAR. Let me know if you liked mine!

Your links don't work for me. Maybe you meant: http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GF&id=61242 For the masochistic challenge, it would probably also be a good idea to have +1 to speed... (i really like that one)
just giving this a *bump* so that people 'more intelligent than I' can add some flavor to this discussion ;)
Is 1.04 also the last patch before the expansion?
"When you say "into story", what do you mean? A short current game intro story, or just something galciv themed? I'd be willing to give writing one a go.... or to proofread anything that anyone else writes." Starvald: something like: http://galciv.reallyrules.com/may2003.htm would be cool for players new to the GOTM challenge. That way they get a feeling for the game that hopefully interests them enough to give it a try. It might be the easiest if the one who
Ok, if you want me to do it, I can write a small intro story and put it on the website, and include the savegame. I can also make a savegame if you have some cool ideas about the specifications: large galaxy, masochistic etc. (what kind of setup for the humans, what kind of stars).
First trade ship: the 'grand nagus' First ship built after inventing Aphrodisiacs: the 'Pon Far' (or how you write it)
Or you just edit your savegame and make it 255 big :D !
Hehe.... well done smok-n-joe
"As for using the standard game score, or a Metaverse one (or the other ones), well why not?" Indeed. We could also just use that scoring method (instead of the 'least number of turns'). I still think that there should be 'winners' for every victory condition. And for the masochistic challenge: If you make a savegame, I am willing to give it a try. But I doubt how many turns I will last :D . Could you also make a nice 'intro story' to put on the website?
Good topic! Maybe brad can get some ideas for AI improvements from this topic. I agree especially on the Starbase management.
" pretty much strip everything off of it except the OS and choice apps because they come so poorly configured even from a giant like Dell." I even strip the OS and reïnstall it. I am too much of a tweaker for that. Good luck Nebuchad. If you have an NVIDIA graphics card (gforce etc) you might alswo want to install the latest DETONATOR drivers for your card. www.nvidia.com (search for drivers and specifiy your system)
Good relations also work. I recently had a game in which I was dead last in military and wasn't attacked by anywone. (it might have been because they didn't see me as a threat with not so many planets and only a few starbases)
I can give you a link to my AAR :D But I am not sure if I should post it here.... it might give people an 'unfair advantage'. What kind of game should we create for next month? I would suggest a medium or large map with a little bit higher difficulty. It would be fun to put in a nice challenge, so maybe an assignment to play a 'good trading civilization' which never goes to war unless being attacked. OR you play a horde of warmongering beasts who will never ever surrender/ pay tribute
"Well, if real Earth was a Galciv game, then I think the USA is well on its way towards a cultural victory." Hmmm okay, but what are the 'minor races' :D ?
Actually I would recommed a small map with AI set to the easiest setting. You might also want to go for a 'good' alignment. This way you can get a feeling for the game, and meet the AI players quick so you get to know how they react.
It has been said before, but I am just going to say it again: don't invent the wheel. If you really want to know what people want, just implement the same features PHP-BB has. You don't have to use PHP-BB, but just look at it.
Nice strategy, but it also sounds a little bit boring. I like my games, as I like my women: not too big, and filled with action :D
Would be fun if you could insert your own star-names/ ship names in a text file or something.
