I sort of wish it did matter but it is not really a big deal. I sometimes put weapons front, rear, etc just for S&G

Their is nothing that bugs me than that loose loser thing. I can only assume that there education was neglected and their just going to continue making the error until they're posting priviliges are revoked .
Other than metaverse, Is there any way to check the difficulty level in game or after the game is over for that matter? There must be some file that says what the level was. I have saved games and reloaded a day or two later and I can't remember the level. Another time I set the game at a certain level and due to some other selection factor the game changed the difficulty level. I went for an entire game thinking I was winning at
Are you sure you have a troop module on your transport?
I had a huge map game in which the Independent League became a galactic power. They were beating up on every body and I wound up in a war with them. They probably had 20-25 planets. I can't recall but that may have been in the last pre-release beta. The minors have been dumbed down a lot since then. They aren't much beyond trading and the occasional HQ planet to conquer. I kind of miss the ability to flip some of them with cultur
Hmm, I never thought of it as a tactic either but it is valid for a short of funds transport defense I suppose. I wonder if the AI is smart enough to know the difference in a bunch of hulls vs a bunch of defenders to be avoided. If not, it would be a pretty serious exploit to crank out empty 10 hp hulls every turn to keep attack ships as well as transports away I only see these early so I assume the AI upgrades or they are all destroyed</fon
The highest difficulty I have won is painful, I tried a game at suicidal and lost big time. The game I like to play is one that is difficult enough to be somewhat challenging but winable without using the tricks like cargo laser interceptors and constant war. That is just not my game style. After playing the suicidal game I have strong doubts that I could ever beat the AI because to win you must jump on them early and stay on them. I don't
I just played my first game on suicidal and I won Well, Well, It seems the joke is on me. I was playing a non Metaverse game and I had chosen random AI but suicidal difficulty. I have since played another game with a picked opponent on suicidal and the difference was obvious. I got my but k
Interesting thread. I just played my first game on suicidal and I won. Before anyone thinks I'm bragging, it was a tiny map head to head against the Torians (random choice). I won a cultural victory in just a little over 1 year. I had never played a game above Tough and frankly, this was just a quick game that I fully expected to lose. At the end I was ahead in every category except population. I suppose you could say that whateve
In my small map games I usually set anomalies to rare because grabbing anomalies is the one thing that I cannot do better than the AI. I feel like I have to have my flagship exploring and the AI will take every anomaly within 20 30 turns. The bonuses gained are too great to allow them to scoop up abundants.
In the beta, farms have become more important. They don't seem to have quite as drastic effect on moral and the tax dollars are important. As for factories and research, if I build a factory or lab and have people to work in them, thay will produce independent of population but income is neccessary to keep them running. I usually don't take the PQ 4 planet because it will never be a producer unless you have a huge bonus tile. Once
Heck, I would be satisfied if there were someway to tell when a base is temporarily or permanently full without sending a constructor or checking the details and trying to figure it out based on current tech level. I don't mind sending the ships but I also agree on the rally point problem related to starbases.
Reading this thread gets me angry with myself for playing the game instead of reading. So many books, so little time Gotta mention James Hogan's Giants series and agree with the recomendation of Mote and the sequel Gripping hand by Niven and Pournelle, a first contact masterpiece. I love Niven's work but I am over the Ringworld series (there have been at least 6 of them) and I hope he is as well. The first couple of them were
Pirates can be a pain but I don't mind them too much usually. They seem to show up in two ways for me. Sometimes they come the early game after someone has researched medium hulls. they have so so fire power but enormous hit points that tend to get used up. I'm not even certain that they can repair. The only time I have beaten one with a ship is with a first attack when their hit points were down. They love to pick off your early starbases
Trying it...
It costs about 10X times as much to buy a colony ship than to build Thank you. Other than grabbing some high PQ plum planet, I never buy a colony ship. Furthermore on anything up to a medium map I build them all on my home planet. I do buy factories to turn out constructors. Up to tough, y
No doubt in my mind, expand asap. With 60% military and 20 each on social and tech you can grow fast enough to stay ahead if you get t to space weapons early. I have found that by building defenders early you can keep a high power rating and keep the AI off of you until you can get your economy rolling. If you let yourself get too far behind in military they will pick you apart even before they have invasion tech. You will be so busy fighti
Here is the basic info. If I have another I'll load the smart exception thingy. Don't knoe how to reproduce it just crashed suddenly and then crashes after 2 turns and no player action. I guess I should have kept my virtual mouth shut. started getting CTD in the second game. Got past the first one but the second one happens after 2 turns when I do nothing. Bummer, this is the first CTD I have had since the previous beta. I will post the debug to the crash thread.
It gets a pass from me. Lots of stuff to get use to with the econ and population changes. I can't say I like the changes better or worse they are just different but okay by me. There is the glitch in the planet screen where the improvement says never built or way too many months to build but whatever it says, it builds in the right time and when you exit and reenter the screen it gives you the right number. I'm sure they will fix
I also like the Night's Dawn trilogy a lot and I have been thinking of re-reading it. That is a solid endorsement for me. Also great , the Hyperion Cantos by Dan Simmons. Especially if you like long, epic, Scifi in the Hamilton vein. Anything by Verner Vinge or Asimov (no collaberations or ghost writes please). The Forever War books by Dan Haldeman. Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson is worth reading. Finally on a game forum haw can we omit Orson Scott Card's Ender s
On the lower settings you can buy the colony ships or not (you certainly need to buy some factories). If you choose not to buy them you must be building them in 4-5 turns on at least one planet, (This is not hard to do BTW.). It is also absolutely necessary to design a faster colony ship. You can design a speed 3 colony ship before your first turn so there is no reason not to do it. That 1 extra movement point will do wonders for you. <
Life after Norton is good. I finally dumped Norton for AVG and it is the one best thing I have ever done to improve everyday performance.
I'm not one of the players that is compelled to figure out every game statistic and my game play is kind of like spit shining shoes. It is a matter of getting in the right rhythm. Population is a conundrum, it is good and it is bad. I seldom have a planet with over 15 billion population but in a recent game my treasury was over $250,000 and my economy was producing over $3000 surplus each turn with spending at 100%.
