Thanks and one more tiny thing for the future Please add something for starbase management like a visual cue for when a starbase is full and when it becomes eligible for new modules due to research. A little colored icon like the hammer icon on planets would be great.

The area to the left of the remove button is a queue of the items that you have placed on the ship. The slider only becomes functional when you have added more item than will show in the available space. If you want to remove something from the ship you find it in the queue select it and click remove

All time favorite was Alpha Centauri-Alien Crossfire. I still play it occasionally. God how I wish someone would update that one. Brian Reynolds now of Big Huge Games (Rise Of Nations) was the designer as he was for Civ 2 Next would be MoO2 and the Civ series First game that hooked me was AOE

You can't go by appearances with game designed ships. They will have an array of weapons placed as eye candy but the real weapons are what the stats says they are. Look at your core designs starting with the defender. Laser ships are carrying missiles etc, etc. I mentioned this some time ago and it was of little interest to anyone and not even of great importance to me

I have been reading Brad's Journals on the new edition and I am getting nervous that it will be too tough for me I have become a good enough to beat the AI on tough settings as it is now (haven't tried anything harder) but I am beginning to wonder if I will have to go back to normal or less to win with 1.1. Remember Brad it is mostly the guy

I once read somewhere that the basis for Moral mines was life extention material but the Galactopedia now says it is happy gas. It's a great game but the devs don't take some of this minor stuff very serious and the descriptions can mysteriously change from time to time

The scroll arrows work fine for me but that doesn't help you. If there is anything wrong with this game it is the variety of performance on different systems, I have had zero problems with the game. No ctd, no disappearing this or that, no problems with the turn button. This means 2 things, I am lucky and it seems the game may lack consistency from system to system assuming that the problems are occurring on systems that meet the

which shows how buggy this game is Actually it shows how buggy the users are. If you read that thread carefully you will see that most things mentioned are either repitition of a known problem or misunderstanding or dislike of some feature or lack of feature. The term buggy is often misused

But the engine has nothing to do with the distance does it? I thought it was just the support module type? Correct. Engines add movement points and life support modules add distance. A ship with enough engine power could theoretically have 100 moves but without additional life support it can only trav

The governor in SMAC was great as long as you turned off military. It was good for building improvements and controling population. With all options on you got artillery and colonizers. In GC2 where a choice of tiles is often important, I'm not sure it would work. If you recall the mess that land terraformers made on auto-improve in SMAC, you will kn

I think distance is the only thing that affects per turn trade income. If you are playing on a tiny or small map it is hard to get more than about 3-4 income but on the larger maps you will average around 10-14 if you are sending the freighters across the map. If the population or quality of the planet you send them to has any effect I haven't been able to detect it. I have traded with Altaria and Wisp and get the same income.

They could do better but they are way better than they were in GC1. They will build a lot of culture military and some econ bases but imo it is a mistake to start building those bases while there are some obvious mining resources to be had. In a small map game tonight, the AI let me grab every mining resource while they built probably a half dozen each of military and culture bases.

It sounds like a great idea if you have them doubled in firepower. I have been fairly impressed with the defenses available in the game but in playing around with the fleet battle simulator you can see the devastating effect of first strike. However, if they nhave the right defense you need to have double their firepower to be safe. I tried missiles 9/0 10hp against laser 6/2 (point) 10 hp and the lasers won offense and defense but just bar

I am a subscriber to Object Desktop. I really like window blinds and and I love to play around with Icons. There is a lot more interesting stuff in the package but some of it takes a lot of resources and while I might enjoy playing around with it, Windowblinds is the only thing I keep resident.

Like most things, the moderate approach seems to be best. In my opinion and in my experience, late game is the time to grow population, after you have the best entertainment techs (VRC) and you have built some of the moral boosters like FC and HC. I have no problem building a huge economy with all my HQ planets in the 10-20 billion population range. I usually have one and sometimes two entertainment tiles and never more than 2 farms. <b

This is sort of an exploit. I found out in the beta version that for some reason trading with the Dark Yor had a high return regardless of distance. In one game I shared a system with them and sent nearly every freighter to their planet about 4 moves away. It returned an average of 10bc per turn which is pretty spiffy. My planet and theirs were tucked into a corner of the galaxy and I shielded them from invasion, so it was a neat arrangemen

I have always been fascinated by the way that the AI in this and all games seems to give up when defeat appears to be inevidable. Ever try to breathe new life into a beaten AI? Try giving them fleets and lots of money. It is a waste of time. They appear to be in deep depression and nothing will revive them. Going back to AOE, the AI that had taken a beating would have lots of workers bumbling around that could have started rebuild

an ai that thinks making 100000 scouts could possibly overcome a fighter? Well if you had multi-player you could be playing against humans that think building 10,000 farms will win the game

Interestingly, the last gigantic map game I played I was pure eveil and got some great planet bonuses, I figured I would have no choice but to take the dark way since when choice time came around the cost of changing would be too high. When I researched ethics I was surprised to see that neutral was available to me for a lousy 2500bc. Since by that time I had over 50K I went for the neutral planet upgrades. Seems strange that you

I had to use 1152x864 and it works fine but no option to go full screen or resize. I gues the graphic demands are too great to allow a lot of switching. Oh BTW I do have a border, title bar, etc, but the window size is fixed.

So much depends on Moral bonuses. I play Populist politics and the highest moral (naturally Joyous) so I can control moral with fewer entertainmet buildings. I also build frictionless clothing, harmony crystals etc. I can't imagine more than 3-4 farms. Use 4 or more Market centers to boost your income and shoot for 25-30 billion max population. With the econ capital you will have an economic dynamo. It is not hard to beat the AI

That couldn't be good unless you could set parameters like only colonize PQ 9 or better. Otherwise they would be passing up PQ 15 planets to grab a 4-5 that is one move closer. Most auto functions that require some level of decision making are horrible. If you ever played Alpha Centuari look at the auto-improve terrain option.
