Uhm you can't really destroy a planet with invasions (darn!), but i rigged up a simple invasion tactic. Cut and paste into your CoreTactics.InvTactics file in the data\invasiontactics folder. Note i guess influence wasn't enabled?? And there are no tactics which require later techs...maybe an option for the expansion pack. It would be cool if somebody went through the techs and keyed each invasion tactic to a tech. This shouldn't constitute 'cheating' by any stretch. //---

Matthew, Did you read Frogboy's post above? He stated that the trade goods are now valued as they were before, albeit are more expensive. Except at the 'harder' levels, which i guess is intelligent and above, they are valued at half what they would be at lower levels. Seems like they already did much of what you suggest. Why not try the new patch 1.04.058 and see if you like it. For me, instead of getting mad, i wait until things have settled down *then* get the patch. Also, real
Yup. Cheers frogboy! Thank you for not succuming to the flames! Gotta try this tonight. Oh, have to work tonight. Maybe time for an hour or so :)
Hey guys, Been reading the other posts (all the other posts), seems like the trade good thing has most people's panties in a wad. The thing was, three days ago Brad on another topic said "staffa you are cheating", then staffa said "no, i did X Y and Z to get those techs, and trade goods shouldn't be bought". Brad says "okay, I'll nerf tradegoods", and releases the patch the next day. Now the masses are screaming, Brad is screaming...its very ugly. I didn't want to start any problems,
Guess trade goods are addressed now...
Hi Pontius, I think the scoring from previous versions is adjust in the metaverse. Consider when I submitted my 1.02 score at 2000 points shown in game, whereas in the metaverase it was 500 points. Therefore i think all scores are automatically converted to make use of the current scoring algorithm, which may even be version independant. Kudos to Staffa for the scoring research! But I'm curious about military vs tech win, was there any major difference between the two, ie time, pop
It almost seems like we should have two GalCivs - one for Staffa and others who thought maso was a cakewalk, and one for the rest of us, in which maso is, well, really hard. Or maybe yet another difficulty level in which the Staffa crowd has these nerfs, etc, that they want, yet people can still play on maso as it was and still have a challenge. I haven't played 1.04, and i have never played maso (intelligent is just right for me, so far), but it seems like what 1% of the really good galcivers
How very European, to have such a silly concept as 'everyone is a senator' and a 'referendum' on such trite matters. By the way, GROSS doesn't have such nonsense, we are a full democracy where everyone has a say, and doesn't have to be a 'senator'. I'd invite you all in , but I don't think you're evil enough :) (Well, honestly, you all can do what you want, this is a free country, well a message board in a free country, where freedom of speech matters). God have mercy on the EE, we s
Any ideas on best way for higher score on 1.04? Or is the same stuff as in previous versions, just everything is nerfed quite a bit?
I can confirm the score nerfing, my latest 1.02 game (and my last) had a score of 2100 on painful. Metaverse shows 500 something. :( :( This sucks! This was a difficult game for me in which I just trounced the bugs. I ended up with 100k bc, that was cool, hehe.
Also stardock could incorporate this method into their anti-cheat algorithms. When the player submits score for metaverse, look at the PQ of their planets and calculate if the improvement jives with known techs and PQ bonus. If all/most of the planets are unexplainably 50% better, then there is a problem. In MOO, which I hacked somewhat, the 'pq' score was given three times, the first was the base score, the second was the max score, and the third was the current score. In this way,
So a related question - what does background loading do? What gets loaded into background? When? What effect does this have on performance? What does this do to RAM usage?
Yeah i've had that happen to me, too. Usually i reload from the autosave. A confirm dialog would be nice.
I have routinely clobbered the AI then asked for 1000s of bc for 100+ months! Needless to say, this made you extremely rich and completely ruined the AI. I have no problem with this!
Yeah, my score is now significantly lower. My game which was 2000 i think is now 500. :( Probably b/c i play 1.02. I guess 1.04 will have higher score? 1.04 seems interesting but there isn't alot of really 'new' things...surprised it took so long to release. I guess it's b/c of the testing that had to be done. I look forward to the expansion pack.
It's not available as a patch from this board yet. I guess only stardock, i haven't checked that yet. Where are the features of 1.04,i've been searching for these for a week. Why so hush hush?
Bobo, Tax em to death, that will lower the population. Best to do this before you have huge populatino problems. Otherwise get morale resource and mine that real good. Get those morale trade goods too, also of course planetary resources. I play at crippling and star democracy and most of my planets are close to 100%, without the very expensive morale improvements (VR center, etc). Your mileage may differ. Oh, and since I have a usually low population, i suppliment each with a maxe
All countries owe their existance to the U.S. hegmony. Similiarly, all other empires will be crushed under the G.R.O.S.S. steamroller. :) (This statement is for humor and frag-baiting. I think only our polis look forward to a day when the whole world is eating McDonalds and voting for the next U.S. president.) Anyway i've been out of the hanger this weekend too, but before i left i started a very interesting game (at crippling I believe) where I gobbled up about 40% of the galaxy
Humans make much better use of starbases than the AI, this is a huge advantage too. Actually, while the AI is *good* in this game, it's still pretty disappointing all around. I can't see having a more complex game with better AI unfortunately. Even with this game (which I don't think is all that complex), the AI is probably a very significant challenge. What would happen when every feature everyone has ever wanted is put in? I am just making generalizations, nothing specific against anyone.
I think you can play good, evil, or neutral for any AI level. I haven't tried above Bright but several people have done Macho on a routine basis playing evil. Evil is a bit more work, you have to worry about the Fundamentalists and the good civs, but the bonuses make it worth it, IMO. In my last game the UP decided in it's *first* meeting to not let evil civs have more than one trade route. Needless to say it changed my strategy significantly. I found that even if you can't trade with other
Staffa, Maybe the AI had morale resources mined. They make a *huge* difference in my games. That or they have some inate bonus to morale. Or when a planet is conquered, the effect is to lower morale, b/c subjugated people tend to have lower morale. Unfortunately we can only guess at the factors that go into morale since i don't think they are stated in any detail anywhere. (It is also possible that the morale calculation is really very simple and only based on populat
Theoretically you could play MOO2 multiplayer (gamespy i think). It was/is a popular game, but i've never done it, even though i played it to death. For one I really didn't have access (fast inet access). For two I didn't have the desire. 4X should be singleplayer i think. Still you can dream, like the Civers do. Heck they even made a Civ1 multiplayer hack (i mean *hack*). Maybe in 10 years we can hack multiplayer into GalCiv, but by that time i probably won't be playing games. (unless
(cross-post from another thread). Thought it would be a cool topic here. Tips to being more ruthless: 1) Amass all your ships right next to their (AI)key planets, then invade. Don't piece-mail it and give them a chance. 2) Extortion, extortion, extortion. 3) Don't rely so much on trade. You can extort a similiar amount for the amount you'll get in trade. 4) Use core detonators on a planet, then give it to some AI. 5) Once you completely dominate, give 1/4 of
EB: Score with Culture victory: 1600 Score w/ Tech victory (20-30 turns later): 2000 Moral was 97% regardless. Tax rate decreased 10% to 32% (between the two victories).
This has been posted elsewhere, do a search for Staffa's thread on how to score 20k in one game. Unfortunately the AI isn't all that good even on intelligent. While they may have economic bonuses you lack, they will tend to be slower to aquire new tech and forget about them invading; it doesn't happen often. The key is a strong military. My stategy FWIW: 1) Colonizer rush. Tax rate 50%, 100% military until all colonizable planets are colonized or until you meet the AI. This has b
