Unlikely. That setting doesn't have any impact on the desktop itself (only new standalone explorer windows), and lots and lots of users using that as well. So I wouldn't worry about that one! I'd say that just each time you see the problem come about, send a report right away, and I can see if something pops out. 🙏

Yup agreed (re old vs new Windows install) Unique, I guess sorta the proof is in the pudding ha. If it were not unique, would have seen this and address and/or firefighting elsewhere on the message boards. I'm sure it's impacting others though, who just aren't making their way here for support. So am looking forward to getting resolved in full. 🙏 Unsure what is "still breaking" now per se, but the original "fix" involved the fact that Windows was

Going to go ahead and not recommend that. But yes the pricing model has shifted as both our audience and target/required development cycles have shifted over time. The core of most versions of Fences work for many many years (something like 8yrs for Fences 2/3) – so we're very much hoping those old copies continue to wo

Thanks for the screenshot - helpful. So it seems it's not even using Windows' Slideshow functionality – it manually changes the images, which I assume you have multiple images set in DF to rotate through. (Possibly possibly possibly , even when you've shut it down; could be some background service or Scheduled Task in play continuing the rotation; unclear.) In either case it does seem like a caching issue with Windows' PaintDesktop function, which when the wallpaper is changed i

When advanced logging is on, am now checksumming both the wallpaper file reported by windows as well as the result of the PrintDesktop function (+ other related critical data), so this should help give us an idea of where things are going terribly terribly wrong

I don't love that I don't have an answer to why it's doing this – not sure if it has to do with monitor's going to sleep & waking up, or caching on Windows' side, DisplayFusion or something else still somehow modifying the images etc, but this is behavior I have not seen. For some reason clearly it's loading up at least temporarily some sort of incorrectly positioned image from Windows' PaintDesktop function. I do assume you're using Windows' "Slideshow" functionality to rot
The strange thing is that I'm seeing the background of the Fences change now even when the Windows Background doesn't change at all... It corrects itself, but it still swaps them multiple times throughout the day.
Yikes & noted. Seeing any pattern? Any screenshots or does it correct too quickly? What do the Fence background change to- just “the wrong thing” or any hints where it might be comin

Wooo! Fingers crossed! Will await further confirmation but that's great news so far! If it ends up being fixed, upload a report one last time so I can scope it and verify everything looks good under the hood, beyond it just empirically working. But yup I'm hoping this one is a wrap. Thanks again for your help resolving.
TBH - I think it might be related to the Fenses showing up on the wrong monitor occasionally on a reboot. It still happens even after the latest update.
btw, please tell me more about this?

Sounds good. Yes, there are situations where we receive a cached version of the wallpaper from Windows even after getting the message. We call on Windows to draw the wallpaper which is blurred, so we have to wait until Windows itself reloads the wallpaper – and that time can be unpredictable. So, we have a backup-sweep kick in 20 seconds after, to ensure the correct wallpaper is captured. Usually, this all works fine right away, but in some cases we've heard about, this cache-issue type

Right. So I'm sensing this is an issue with Windows – not Fences. Previously with Windows 10 (/ your previous graphics card), your monitor was not disconnecting from the system when you turned it off. The monitor was off from a visual point of view, but the HDMI connection was still live saying there was a monitor there, and Windows was accepting that / recognizing the monitor as still there. Your new Windows 11 system (/ current graphics card) is counting the monitor as

Got it. Well– if L is off, then Windows may be indicating the monitor no longer exists. This means Fences needs to move the icons somewhere. In that event, it may be inconvenient the groups still exist, but they'll need to be positioned somewhere on the C or R monitors when L is off. When L is turned back on, their positions on L should be remembered and they should go back to the correct place. Is the desired behavior that if L is off that those icons just

Hi NttR, please give this copy a try: <a id="menur2v6" class="fui-Link ___1q1shib f2hkw1w f3rmtva f1ewtqcl fyind8e f1k6fduh f1w7gpdv fk6fouc fjoy568 figsok6 f1s184ao f1mk8lai fnbmjn9 f1o700av f13mvf36 f1cmlufx f9n3di6 f1ids18y f1tx3yz7 f1deo86v f1eh06m1 f1iescvh fhgqx19 f1olyrje f1p93eir f1nev41a f1h8hb77 f1lqvz6u f10aw75t fsle3fq f17ae5zn" title="

Hi Wild4fire, yes, curious indeed. It seems like 24H2 is treating your monitor-off situation differently, and further, in a way that we're not seeing on other systems. Nonetheless, I'm hoping that this build might fix it. Give this a try, while once again enabling advanced logging (AFTER installing/rebooting), and let's see if we've moved the ball forward. Fingers crossed, and in either event really would like to get this resolved for you. New update to test is here: <spa

Seems to be a caching issue. Let's give it a test with the new build coming shortly. Agreed that the 3rd party enhancement could be causing issues but tbd. Hopefully the new build will either fix, or provide us some useful logging. We'll show you how to set up that logging once build is ready.

I believe that "hidden icon prevention" was something added in Fences 5 fairly recently, around v5.50. Give the current version on the website a shot! Just be sure to preserve your settings on uninstallation of 4, and you'll have your settings for your trial of v5 to see if it resolves the issue for you. If not, you can revert back to v4. The new workaround detects any icons that Windows places behind a Fence group and moves them to an appropriate spot. To be safe, you can take backup

Indeed this sounds like a caching issue. This is Windows itself rotating the wallpaper correct, not some other tool? And confirming that it does work correct when you toggle the blue option off and on until the next change? Will see if we can get the team to send a build with some extra debug information.

@Wild4fire, thanks for the report. Some good news! I'm noticing a very interesting oddity in this round of logs – and one that we're able to do something about. Technicals: When your monitor goes to sleep, it's doing something very interesting in that (1) it's disappearing altogether (system reports 0 physical monitors with 1 virtual monitor @ 1024 x 768) (2) the IDs of that 1024 x 768 aren't matching up between Explorer.exe and Fences.exe. I've implemente

Please try holding shift and right clicking the desktop. Does this cause them to reappear? Similar, does opening the Fences settings cause them to reappear? If not, finally, does right clicking the desktop and from the “View” menu selecting “Show desktop icons” resolve the situation? Thank you
