Not sure I'm worthy to follow up on a Killa Koala story, especially that one--it was one of the finest pieces of writing I've seen on this forum, even the parts that weren't lifted from Tolkien. To sum up, if your social queue is empty and you're allocating resources to social production, then yes, you are wasting resources. Likewise for military. However, it is better to waste resources than to build things which actually harm your empire, as many improvements do.
It's definitely more expensive. I rather doubt it affects your score though.

Yeah, the nice thing about MOO2 is that all the races really felt different--the game played out completely differently depending on your starting picks. Galciv isn't even close in that regard.

Rick, I don't think that's how it works... not quite sure though. Take embassy for example. If your *base* econ is 40 then an embassy is worthwhile. Unfortunately, this is different from your actual production. Say your planet produces 20 bc. You have banking center, economic exchange, galactic stock exchange, and stock market, which together increase your econ by about 103%. So the production that you see is about 40 bc. Then you add an embassy, bumping economy by 5%.

No, you can still win with any of the other victory types.
It means that if the aliens beat you to final frontier, then you can't win a tech victory anymore.

Much more than that. Frogboy a while ago mentioned that a very small fraction of Galciv owners had used the Metaverse. I think it was under five percent so that makes 80,000 copies minimum. My memory of this is pretty shaky though so don't trust that number too much.
omg, how could I forget? The joy of playing a Telepathic race with a Unification government... the joy of wiping out enormous fleets of 99 AI ships with one well-armed Doom Star... I'm getting a serious itch to go find and play MOO2.
