Marquesa, start with a tiny-rare map and hit control-N until you get two yellow stars in your home sector. That should be a great help in keeping up (since you'll have twice as many planets as the AIs).

EBZ wrote a guide for how to beat beginner games really really fast. If you look at "EBZeroMatrix" in the Metaverse you can see that there were a few days in which he submitted dozens of games. His guide was the GCCG, the "GC cranking guide." I have no idea where to find it though.

8-10 should be decent, not spectacular though. (But I rarely play "occasional".) One problem is that "expansion" stage lasts a lot longer on gigantic so you may not know how many planets you'll end up with until you're well into the game.

Hi Jack L'Eagle! If you mean that exact robot, then i don't know. There were other games where they had robots or scientists announcing techs, though--MOO2 for instance.
Vincible: if I remember correctly you only need to alter game.galaxy. Also, be sure you don't 'X' out the ENTIRE serial. Leave "GC1" in there, as well as the first two letters of the serial.
And leave the dashes too, I assume. This didn't work for me.
I just figured this out for maso a few games ago too. And to think of all the times I sat there on gigantic maso with my budget on -500 bc waiting for my trade to pick up. Oh I feel so slow on the uptake sometimes.
I did too... I'd probably never have figured it out if it wasn't posted.
Is this cash for tech with Alexians on maso a 1.11 thing?
*shrug* It could have been there throughout 1.10 and I would never have known.

Carielf says:
We do know about the invisible ship bug. We think that it's caused by a bug in the data manager, which is in the very core of our code library. Fixing the bug would affect all of the major systems in the game, and I'd have to write code to convert all of our graphics because they'd crash the game under the fix otherwise. And then, to see if this did fix the problem, I'd have to play for 3-4 hours to wait for it to happen. This could take a week at best to fix. That

Some people do one governor for high-PQ planets and one for the low PQ ones. Most people use one standard build queue, myself included. Captain Bizarre is the first person I've ever heard of who used the third. Generally I have one governor for everything except my best planet, which I oversee personally. That planet emphasizes production and builds all my wonders. [Message Edited]
