They were playing an older version of the game (note that all their posts are from April). The +15% PQ pick was eliminated in some patch because it was too powerful.

As a guest, I like it being open. Also it will help recruitment if people can easily see what you guys talk about. All the unabashed geekiness in this thread has almost, but not quite, made me a convert.
I'm against it. If people feel the current ships don't offer enough variety, then Stardock should just add a few more ships to the game to fill whatever gap is currently missing.
Ray--in my experience the AI generally votes to distribute another AI's wealth, and I've had them vote not to distribute mine. *shrug* I think it is based on relations--I try to keep everyone at war with everyone else, so they probably don't have good relations with each other, and I try pretty hard to keep good relations with everyone.
I've gotten all of those at one point or another. The best one ever was when I was playing a tiny/rare map and had Earth and no other planets. (Every other race had one planet except one race which got two.) A couple years into the game Earth was transformed into a class 35 world, obviously an enormous advantage when everyone's empire consists of one world. It was too good an event, actually, I ended up quitting a couple game years later because that event made the game too easy. [
A while ago, this topic was discussed in the Strategies forum. http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GS&id=74249#77117 [Message Edited]
There is not necessarily a popup but in my experience the music always changes to the "war" music which should be enough of a clue to tell you that a conflict has begun.
Same as yours. Crippling is too easy, Maso is too much work.
Every serious player agrees with you, Zoshan. However, Stardock does not, and they make the rules. :notsure: I think there's zero chance of any changes being made to scoring for a while, at least until after the expansion pack comes out.
A note: there are some new political parties in the Library. Some of them look kind of overpowered but still it's fun to experiment. Ecologists combined with +5 PQ looks powerful...
Not that I know of. There ought to be some sort of slider to adjust random event frequency in the galaxy setup screen. This is my second-biggest complaint with the game right now. [Message Edited]
Yes, they often have different paths on the return trip. If the ends of the route are at, say, (1,1) and (5,2) then it will go one way in the 1st row and return in the 2nd. So if you plan to use starbases to enhance trade then it is best to have vertical or horizontal trade routes. [Message Edited]
Sounds like a bug. Have you upgraded your game with the latest patch?
More on Warcraft AIs: Several people had beaten seven allied insane AIs using an exploit (the AIs won't expand if there's an invisible thing on the expansion). This exploit has since been patched. Various people added that if you harass an insane comp early on then you can mess up the AI's highly optimized build order and after that the AI plays very weakly.
TelebK: what you cited as evidence of excellent Warcraft AI is nothing that the average human wouldn't do. I asked this question on a Warcraft board. In addition to the resource cheat they suspected several other cheats. And in spite of this one person had managed to beat two allied comps. There may be more--it hasn't been that long since I posted the question. (I'd rather not link to it since it's a semiprivate board which gets a fair amount of spam already, but you can go to battle.ne
Hi White Council folks, I thought I'd peek in on your thread and I saw your discussion on AI quality. Warcraft III is repeatedly cited as an example of "good AI." It seems that none of you are aware that the toughest level AI in Warcraft III is not tough because it's so smart. It's tough because it cheats--it gets double the resources. So a peon for the human player brings back 10 gold per trip to the mine, whereas a peon for the AI gets 20 gold per trip. And likewise for lumbe
You might have better luck starting a new thread... I still play, I just won a couple games today actually.
You can use bribes to keep the AI from attacking you *if* you have a very high diplomatic rating.
There have been many patches. I would guess that something like that has been caught already. Download the patches anyway, 1.05 is much better than the CD version.
Tight clusters makes control-N more powerful, if you do that. I generally don't pick speed though.
If you have a high diplomatic rating then giving them occasional gifts can work fairly well. If you don't have a high diplomatic rating then you just have to be stronger.
The change I suggested wouldn't necessarily make it easier--that would depend on to what extent the AI research bonus was nerfed. It just reduces the need to do something that is not fun. As it is it's hard for the wrong reasons--it's hard because you force the human to do something tedious (figuring out a tech trading strategy ever few turns) rather than because the human is doing something that is inherently difficult. I wonder if there are any maso players that *don't* do this. I dou
Yeah, but it gets really boring after a while. I would prefer if this exploit were eliminated AND the AI's econ/research/diplo bonuses were toned down. Then I might have an incentive to actually do my own research, and I wouldn't have to stop every several turns and take 5 minutes figuring out a good trading strategy. As it is it's a pretty good strategy to in general devote no resources whatsoever to tech, and just put the money into social and military, since after falling wa
The biggest thing I exploit these days is trading for unique techs. This works particularly well on maso where you fall behind in tech quite quickly. Say we have AIs A through E and techs 1 through 20. A is the galactic leader and is therefore the tech leader. The techs owned look like A: 1-20 B: 1-19 C: 1-17 D: 1-14 E: 1-10 Also say that I own none of these techs. I research two techs on a different branch of the tech tree than the AI usually pursues.
Thank you!
