What are your sliders set to for research? I usually have mine set to 60% for most of the game. I usually have no problem keeping up with or ahead of the AI. I play TINY/RARE/MASO

I happened to take a snapshot of the page 3 scores on June 14. I noticed that Ray the wanderer had 83 games played and a score of 244240. Today June 16, I checked Rays score and it shows 85 games played with a score of 251269. Ray has not played any games since 2003. I thought that the metaverse scoring problems were fixed. :(

CariElf if you are reading this thread would it be possible to make this discussion a sticky thread and append the thread "Suggestions for Galciv II" to this one so that they are all together? There have been several good ideas that people have posted. I would like to think that some of these ideas may stimulate creative juices for Galciv 2 whether you use the ideas or not.
I was doing quite nicely, trading my way to tech superiority, when they got taken over by the Arceans
I try to have combat transports ready to take over the minors or any other major that is about to kick the bucket. This way I get the planet. After you get the planet transfer colonists from your worlds to that world to give it a good start on population. This will increase income via taxes and your population will increase faster. This will also i

I am unable to play on anything bigger than Medium and even that is sloooooooowwww! My computer is powered by two rubber bands, a wheel powered by an eight year old hamster a 1986 video card that uses 150 watts and runs my CGA monitor. The keyboard has 47 keys that work. Thank god that my numeric keypad works so I can enter in ASCII escape sequences so I can type the keys that don't work. My mouse is my pride and joy ... I got it from a 1994 PC 486 DX2 66. I have 64 meg of memory but o

Hi Cloot, Your message sounds like you have been playing for awhile but not submitting games to the Metaverse. If I could review your game submissions I would get an idea of your abilities. The AI gets more bonuses for every level of intelligence that you apply to them. When set to incredible the bonuses are maxed out and their style of play is very tough to beat unless you follow the some MASO strategies see the http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GS&id=97352 or see th

I am pretty certain that I have posted good games with PQ above 50. They are extremely rare but possible. Find a 20 or 22 get the bonus PQ when colonizing it, fill it up with PQ updates including the terraformer Wonder and also have a niehboring AI get find the tech that updates planet PQ for 2 sectors.

Did you ever have cheats enabled? That will always make whatever your score was anomolis. There is a possibility that your mods created a scoring problem that was detected by the metaverse. There is no indication that a score will be anomolis. There is no way you can check your score during game play that I am aware of.
How do I increase the levels on my ships? They have been through a lot but they wont grow!
It takes a lot of ship combat to gain experience above level 7 but it can be done. The problem is by the time a ship has a lot of experience the next generation ships are still its equal or better.

The rest of the posts (about 80%) are non CSF team members. Find the active threads and post there. If you are looking for help, post in the strategy forum and you will have several replies before the next day.

Nothing like a bribe to get your way. Remember this though, an alliance is only really good if you are planning an alliance victory. Otherwise you will get dragged into what ever way that you allied AI gets involved in. I usually just get close and not worry about alliances until I want that alliance win.

I like that your ships can gain experience as they fight battles. This increases the stats but very slowly. How about when a ship gains an experience level you can decide where to apply the points. Also this would change the game slightly because there maybe an advantage to try and move a ship through experience levels. Unused experience points could be applied during another level increase. Example: Frigate 130 gained an experience level = 30 points +1 Attack

How about publish how the score was calculated at the end of the game. This can be very helpful in determining where you went right or wrong in your score. Currently in Galciv the scoring is mostly a mystery and anything that describes how to get a better score is vague. Since score is calculated at the end of the game then it should be an easy matter to format that to screen output.

I would like to see better control over the victory conditions and scoring. Military victory should be military not culture victory. A military victory could change to culture if 50% of the habited planets in the galaxy have been taken over by flipping them. If you are going for a Military victory and you have beaten all the non-allied AI's and you are still allied with an AI then you should be given the option for an Allied victory or the game can continue for the next victor
question: On a Windows XP how do I reach the data folder. I went into my computer and selectind Gal Civ but i cant find the data folder HELP ME!!!!!
Find your galciv icon either on the desktop or start bar and select its properties. Then select find target. A folder will open up taking you to the galciv directory. I think by default it might be in \program files\stardock\galciv .

Something that I noticed when playing and winning my first MASO, if you control a resource in a sector that is occupied by an AI they do not complain if you build culture mods on it. At least they don't if you are friends with them. I never tried it when I wasn't friends.

#4 by Veteran Black_Shade - 5/28/2004 3:10:00 PM as requested, here is my post from the jedi comm. thread: NewfyScotion- What i do is i make sure that planet setting is on rare (the less planets there are, the easier the game is). Then, i just CTRL+N until i get 2-3 planets. Set your spending to 100%, taxes to 50%, then research 50-60%, military 20-30%, social 20%. Here is my usual research path for the start: Comm THeory--> Universal Trans---> Med Theory---> Bas

One other thing that might help would be for you to make sure that you have upgraded your game to v1.20. That is the latest version and it is available as a download or through the stardock central application that you can get at www.stardock.com

What are those symbol-things at the bottom of your posts?
Expanding on what Icho tolot said, here is a link that explains the symbols http://www.galciv.com/metaverse/legend.asp The metaverse is sort of a team game. If you join a team your submitted scores are added to that teams score (by some complicated algorithym). Then your score and your teams score displayed on the metaverse scoreboard.
