Hope that stardock reads your letter and responds. The english manual was out of date at the time the game was released. There is a FAQ located here http://www.galciv.com/encyclopedia.asp?action=showpage&page=http://www.galciv.com/faq/faq.html The strategy forum has many good hints. If you have a question post it and you should have an answer within 1 - 24 hours. In most cases you will have multiple answers. Please do not give up on this game. If you liked M002 you will like
Hey Newfy, out of curiosity, why would you do a partial spending ratio?
There are a few reasons 1. I like micro management but this is an area that I do not feel I need that degree of micro management. 2. I spend my time managing my ships and trading with the AI. I play MASO and on Tiny/small/Medium maps. I need to maximize my trading with the AI and get my wonders and trade goods built at the same time. I have figured out a way of building/
That is so totally different from the type of tactics I would use... I would have thought the AIs could easily make plenty of money from trading with each other
What I didn't say was that when I do a trade embargo I do try to make sure that the AI are fighting amongst themselves as well. This really wipes them out.
Certain things in the manual (and various other documentation) refer to things affecting *star systems*. For example, freighters from good economic "star systems" perform better than those from poorer ones.
1. There are things that affect star systems like starbases and I believe that there are certain wonders that affect star systems like the hyperion production bonus. (I can't remember what the exact name is) 2. It has been my experience that there is no differ

Just to throw in another tactic that I like although it is a bit cheesy. If a minor shows up mid to late game I will suround it with frieghters to prevent the Major AI from attacking it. They I will pick planet I have that is furthest away from that AI and build frieghters and setup all my trade routes to that minor AI. Then I go to the diplomancy screen and do a trade embargo on all remaining AI. Initially I would have to adjust my spending slider because my income will d
It really is surprising me how far off track I have been playing all this time.
DF, this game is easy to play and difficult to master. there is no wrong way to play it if you are winning. My playing style may not be a match for your playing style but the hope is that you and other players will pick up some useful tips that we have learned. I say this because I just wanted to comment on Brackards' statement
A 100% spending ration on whatever you are sp
I think it boosts the attack and defense of all ships built at that planet. Not HP.
I agree with Matthew. Pick your best production planets and build the ship quality improvements on these planets. Have this planets build your best ships.
It has been a long time since I played Galciv. It appears there are many new things I need to discover and learn about
I am still learning from people here myself. Sometimes I discover new things that ... I forgot. There is a lot of different things in this game.
Don't forget that you can right-click on ship in diplomacy screen to know where the location of the ship is. Very useful for finding which are the freighters that are next to a system owned by an AI.
That is true, I use this everytime I want to buy a frieghter. I look for one that is orbiting a star first then look for one that is closest to an AI star. The trick is to minimize travel time at all costs and get that trade route going. Takes several turns for
Btw You happen to know a guy by the online name of Kingpin?
No, sorry. I do not play Civ3.
Silly or are they positionning ships to be able to counter-attack effectively if a new war erupts?
Well there is that, but I would like to have the ability to demand that they remove there ships from my space.

I have been able to steal techs only late in the game against an AI that I have advanced knowledge due to spying. Even if the AI is ahead of me in somethings there is no guarantee that you will steal something. I feel that spending money on spying is a waste of my resources. I do know that spying can prevent certain events from happening during the game. But ... I would rather do a reload of a saved game if the event was not favourable than spend money on spying. This is
They just kept about 25 ships next to the last world they attacked.
Most of the AI will stop and leave their ships alone when peace is declared. Does not matter where the ships are. This always seemed a bit silly to me.
but I have not been submitting to the metaverse it no longer will work for me.
post a message to http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GF&id=180095#185812 about your submission problems. This is the forum that Stardoc uses to investigate problems. They will help you out but it may take a day or 2 for them to respond.
Is it ever really wise to colonize those less then 15 PQ?
Hmmm Never tried that one before.. The method I used with the 100% spending I learned from one of the top players a long time ago.
The important thing to remember is your empire will shutdown once you have cash reserves below -500. Your empire will operate fine with a negative income until that mark is reached. You must adjust your spending slider when you get close to -500 so that your income is just slightly positive as I said before. Bef
Yes, but morale is affected by PQ, I think. That is everytime in the start up game period, when I increase the planet PQ by soil enrichment, etc., the morality goes form 50-70 up to 100.
I agree with your statements but there are other things like social buildings that can affect morale as well. Also there are morale modifies in anomalies and events.
I believe "morale" to be a synonym for "population cap". ("Morale +10%" in effect means "you'll get 10%
Maximum is 200B
Its been awhile since I have had reached the 100,000 mark. Definately a few versions ago. 200,000 must be the level for the new versions. Planet Quality does not affect the population cap. Poplulation on a planet is affected by morale. It may not be possible to get to the pop cap because the morale is low.

Trade routes are limited to 10 but you can maximize your money with these tips. 1. pick your trade routes to be as long as possible. The longer the trade route the more money that can be made. 2. research as many techs as possible to increase your trade income 3. upgrade your starbases to include a trade bonus while the frieghters are in that star system. This usually works best if there are several traderoutes passing through the star system.
