@kyro Are you talking of a complete reinstall? Unfortunately this is not an option for me. There is too much configuration which would be lost and I need this machine daily. I could reinstall all kind of programs and drivers, but not the complete system. But maybe there isn't any other option with these stupid #@**m%! Windows machines and I have to live with it for some time. Are there any LINUX geeks at Stardock? I have LINUX on my second machine. Unfortunately GC II does not yet r

I upgrades to the current version on Stardock Central and the problem remains. To start the game it is 2 Minutes to start the computer and 5 Minutes to start the game (i.e. the first screen, no game is started or loaded). QUICKSTART command line option skips doesn't help in this case. As stated above I guess it is the dialog with dxinfo which cost so many time. But I have no idea what I can do about it. It really stops me from using this wonderful game and I will definitely not
Wouldn't that eat up all your money?
No, not in GC1 as long your colonies have a PQ >= 15. It helps a lot with research but slows down building of wonders and trade goods. To neutralize this problem a bit I build manufacturing improvements like Fusion Power Plant etc. exclusively on Earth and one or two other high PQ planets. Another disadvantage of a high number of colonies is your vulnerability in case of war until you get a decent military power.
Get the Stardock Central here http://www.galciv1.com/download.asp and install it. In the games sector you can download all registered games (you need your serial once).
Is there anybody?
I have never seen it but others seem to have more luck. e.g. here http://apolyton.net/forums/showthread.php?s=94f90abf1b631863fba404104cbab14d&postid=4720288#post4720288

Hi, I want to start a bug collection of all known bugs which still exist in the last version. I start with my two personal favorites of the most hated bugs: 1) The "month left" calculation is wrong for technologies. The program uses the free research points of the past month instead of the current month. 2) Reloading the game disables the "auto survey" capabilities for most of the anomalies and very often makes them disappear. There are some more:
There is no multi player for none of the GC versions. It might be a future extension for GC2, but I don't think that Stardock already has a decision on that. Otherwise GC3 might have it in a couple of years :p All you have is a ranking called Metaverse. Once you finished a game you can submit it to get points for your ranking. You are asked if you want to submit it after a game ends when your computer is connected to the Internet at this point in time. You still can keep the EndGame.sa
That's what you need: 1) Both, you and the aliens need to have the tech "Alliance" 2) Your relationship needs to be in one of the two next highest categories (I think it is "Close"). You can get a better relationship via similar alignment (especially good AIs love the good guys), trade and gifts. With big gifts you can climb up the relationship for two steps every three month. When you have reached that you can exchange "Alliance" in the diplomatic screen. Sometimes you need to
Yes, the flag came with an update (1.1). For me the Stardock Central update worked fine. But the stand alone patch from the download area should do it for you, too. To research the current technology use "Ctrl + s". The cheat codes can be found in the history file http://sdcentral.stardock.com/public/gc1/production/history.htm
You are off topic in this thread. Better start a new thread for questions like that. Most common money problem are leases. i.e. don't buy anything, it's very expensive. Set the production slider to 100% and choose 100% military to get your ships build fast instead. You get money via taxes and trade. With higher tax rates you get more money. But how many you get depends on your population. Higher tax rates lead to lower approval (i.e. moral) and thus to a lower populati
a: That's what I would expect. b: The options screen (press Esc in a running game) shows the current version (1.52 is the newest for AP)
Wonders give you an increase by percent. Thus it is always a good idea to build a wonder on the best planet. But the increase is based on the base values of a planet, i.e. when you have two equal planets it doesn't give you any advantage to combine them on one. What a good planet is, is mainly determined by the planet class (PQ value). But population and the base influence are important, too. Base influence of a home planet is 20, other yellow stars have 10 to 14, and the rest
When the system asks me if I want to send the data to Metaverse it tells me the scoring beforehand. Up to now these numbers where correct. I have no idea what went wrong with your submission.
I have no idea if these events alter your score directly, but I doubt it. I always play in the 60k limit thus I can't tell any differences anymore :notsure: Though they can make it harder to win, too. It is much easier to get 60k with AP. But this was not the reason why i bought it :D The only two active players in the first two pages I know off are Spacepundit and I.
What is your question? GC2 should run on this machine when your grafics driver is up to date (2005 or newer). Check if BIOSTAR or the manufactor of the grafics chip offers a new version and install it. And you should really get more RAM. 256 MB is the bare minimum to run XP with SP2. It runs and GC2 runs, too. But very slow. 512 MB SDRAM is quite cheap (40$?) and it should not be a big deal to find a suitable module and to stick it in your board.
4) The minor races are most likely to develop trade good. Buy trade goods from the minor races rather than trying to compete for them, since it keeps you focused on what you need and strengthens the minors in their resistance to the major races.
This is only true for the old versions. In the current version of the game the minors don't build trade goods any more.
I don't know all details. But this is what I heard about it 1. Yes, go for military victory only. Switch off other victory conditions. But you can reach the cap (60k after Jan. 2190, 30k before) e.g. in AP with a gigantic map and an alliance win, too. This might be faster once you have got enough experience. 2. Size matters, more points for bigger maps. 3. Double points for victories after Jan. 2190. 4. Population development counts in relation to total population, i.e. more star
I already used this in GC1. When you don't have enough transports to invade without a devastating invasion method you can do the following to keep the planet sane. Invade with one or two of your transports only, to reduce the number of defenders. Take over the planet in a second wave. You need some experience with battles to know how much "softening" you need, though.
You need to register your serial. This should be possible in the "Tools -> Register Products" area of the Stardock Central. When you have done this GC should show up in the "Purchased Software" area in the Games section. There you can download, archive and install it.
Hi Amaymon, it would be nice to have some more company here :CONGRAT: Just one question. How can you post via Stardock Central in this GC 1 forum. I checked all my settings but I can't find any GC 1 threads in the Stardock Central (:(
Unfortunately I don't have any experience with creating mods. I would suggest to analyse how it was done in other mod packs. Some of them have nice new graphics. I guess you have a better chance to get a valuable answer in the GC1 forums here http://www.thegalacticcore.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=75 or there http://www.neotechgaming.com/forums/index.php?showforum=182
The Stardock Central has a "Lookup serial" function in the registration part. When you are registered at Stardock, this is an easy way to get your serial back. When you are not registered, just buy the game again. In Europe I saw it for 10,- € in stock or for 30,- € including AP at ebay. Stardock itself offers the Ultima Edition including AP for 30,-$ here http://www.galciv1.com/purchase.asp .
