Looks down binoculars....ah yes, many potential targets here..... [Baaa, baa...baaa..baaaa] Not yet, my woolly blobs of death, not yet...... :HOT:

surthur - You ARE in the ANZAC thread, mate, even though you're talking to people living in a Colony Formerly Known As The British Empire..... ....and don't think we've forgotten the Mid-West Confed when it comes to our guerilla campaign......
The GROSS military staff gather around at their daily strategy meeting and booze up.....their legendary champion Staffa sits quietly at the end of the table. Gerakken: "Welcome everyone, and a very special welcome to Staffa who rejoins us to once again contribute to GROSS greatness. And I must say the new hairstyle is very becoming." Cypherpax: "Yeah Staffa, what made you choose white hair, anyway?" Coffeedragon: Leaning over towards Staffa, he notices something unusu
Well philo, I hadn't considered koalas or crocs.....thanks for that input LOL :CONGRAT: Congrats Gezz :CONGRAT: [Message Edited]
RayCSB sits at his desk, reading the first chapter of Lord of the Rings, wondering what it would be like to be Gandalf, his boyhood hero. Suddenly, the patter of tiny hooves is heard outside his door...which swings back to reveal a cute, woolly sheep. "Well hello little fella...what are you...wait...no...GET BA[BaaaBLAM!!!] Mmmuuaaahhh......... :HOT:
Well, I am signing off for the night. You know that I am always looking forward to hearing from our members and visitors alike, so don't be strangers!
Snoring softly, Gerakken fails to hear the footsteps of tiny, woolly feet outside his bedroom: "Err...umm...hey - wha..NOOOO[BaaaBLAM!!!] Ha! Got you, you swine. It took me long enough to develop that recombinant DNA vector to dampen out the premature explosion virus, especially with one hand blown off....
Come aboard Cotal - the more the merrier! And who the hell is Modus Operandi??!! Just launches on to the board and already in Allan Border mode - good job man! :CONGRAT: I must concentrate on planting more exploding sheep among our enemies..... :HOT:
You foolish GROSSlings need to understand that there will always be those who seek to thwart you.... [releases exploding sheep to wander down to GROSS HQ] And Chris - why not pay the ANZAC thread a visit, mate....
Absolutely right! Just dont trust anything Gerakken says...... ;) As for this big bad stuff? Gerakken's a pussycat.... LOL
Jeff - welcome aboard mate!! Seeing you win at painful and above levels, you're obviously NOT a crap player, so get yourself over to the the ANZAC empire and press the 'Join Empire' button. As a fellow Melbournian, I can testify that the weather's crap at present - perfect GalCiv playing time! You should ABSOLUTELY play for fun and not scores, does not fuss us at all. Check the ANZAC empire running thread and join the party. Cheers!
Our spy rays observe Gerakken bringing his eeeevviill master Pontius some hot cocoa on the bridge of the GROSS cruiser..... Suddenly, Pontius glances over Gerakken's shoulder: "Hey Gerakken, what's that sheep doing he[BLAM!!!] Woolly scuffling noises, followed by short bleats in Morse code, followed by deafening concussions echo throughout the GROSS cruiser, which takes on a decided list... :HOT: Hurley - in AB mode! Go man go :CONGRAT:
Muuuaaahhhhh....in the confusion of the battle, the pathetic GROSSlings fail to realise the hull of their ship has been splashed with emu oil....a sickly green toxic crud begins to eat through the outer plates.... Release the exploding sheep pods!! Small, apparently harmless pods drift towards the GROSS cruiser, attach to the hull - and bore through, liberating packs of feral sheep free to roam the mighty GROSS cruiser....NZ SHEEP ALWAYS GET THEIR MAN!!!
Damn it...that does it Gerakken - ready the Maori death commandos, unleash the kelpie attack packs, smear that emu oil GROSS repellant over the hull. Bring the Battlecruiser Waltzing Matilda into FIRING RANGE!!!! >:( [Message Edited] [Message Edited]
If we wish to get excited, Gerakken, we will - it's the nature of ANZACs LOL Especially when the odds are overwhelming and we are about to get the crap beaten out of us - it's where the ANZAC legend came from! Cheers to Raleigh - also in Allan Border mode!! :CONGRAT:
GO ANZACs...the triple threat of Josh, Chris and Slitherin all in Allan Border mode (beyond 10,000!) have us back in the running. The Good Ship Waltzing Matilda lives on..... :D
Oh you mean the one we turned into a garbage scow with the rest of your fleet awhile back?
With our Maori shock commandos, emu oil based GROSS repellent, squads of attack kelpies ready to round up you helpless GROSSlings....vengeance is near.... :SURPRISED:
I was photographed in front of the Eiffel Tower - will this do? Mmm...Aussie invasion of Europe...mind you, the fact that we even beat them at soccer these days, it's not much of a challenge... LOL
Now this is starting to kill me (again)...I submit a small alliance victory on beginner level, to get 4940 points, and then I win my FIRST GAME ON NORMAL :CONGRAT: (YAY ME) on a medium map alliance victory and get a relatively lousy 807 points!? Sheesh! BTW Slitherin, congrats on that nice Top 25 badge!
Go Beer!!
J4 - what are you doing in that namby pamby White Council with an attitude like that? You should be over here with us ANZACs! Apolyton - it's the old fragmenting empre story; expect the Euro's to fall apart too.... We've refitted the 'ol Waltzing Matilda battlecruiser - we're coming to lay the smack down on you, Pontius.... :HOT:
A note of thanks for those tips - I'm very much like the original poster; having trouble making the transition to and above normal. Like Peter, I've got some decent experience with Civ3, Alpha Centauri, etc. but it seems the jump from sub-normal to normal is pretty harsh in GalCiv, much more so than comparable games. I'd also suggest small map size - I've found it gives you just enough to think about and all types of victories are possible. Anyone else feel the AI jump is too harsh sub-to-normal
Agreed - I got an amazing score for a small beginners game and with FriendJosh and Slitherin hammering the game, the ANZACs are in 2nd place!!! 12.05 pm EST It won't last, but what the hell - GO TEAM!!! LOL
A very interesting thread, Quack. I think there are i) individual gains and ii) group gains to be had. The individual wants to know how 'good' they are, in a relatively objective sense - both in terms of whether they are better than the game's AI, and better than the other humans that might be playing the game. Players know they are better than the AI sometimes, IMHO, by learning the numerical or strategic 'cheats', that is, the tactics that exploit loopholes discovered in the games scoring (eg
RayChua - thanks for that advice; I'll upgrade (too dumb to master the game, let alone the govs - doesn't make any diff to me) Quack - awesome work on that thread re the AI (you really ARE a Comp Sci guy) - ask Frogboy for a job at Stardock!
Besides, if you friendly folks catch up, we will need something else to fight over.
Gerakken - name your booty, dude...... Slitherin - good on ya...you've inspired me to go back and try and win on normal..cl
Hey Slitherin - does this mean you've decided to keep plugging on? Hope so (although I'm not going to take up your advice ;) ). Must admit I have left GC alone for a few days. Scores still seem to be in flux and there looks to be a problem with 1.05 - maybe no one should upgrade until clarified?
Geez...I got off to a good start, then watched as the Drengin war machine started to take off - those red lines on pop and mil heading skyward. Why should I do all the dirty work? I convince the Torians to attack the Drengin, thinking to whittle them down until I can build up. The Torians have such a good time, they not only wipe out the Drengins but toast the Arceans and assimilate the Altarians in the process. The Torians end up with 80% of the galaxy then casually inform me I no longer need t
