Nnnnngghhh! Orz are not stupid! I am *frumpled*. It is time to *squeeze the juice*! That proposal sounds very interesting - I can think of quite a few loose ends in SC2 involving that dimension...

I, TheQuack , am voting for Wild Wombat . Of course, it doesn't matter. With this whole "secret ballot" idea, even if Wombat wins, you'll throw out the result and put in one of your mates. Wombat's a fine leader, but you'll discriminate against him just cause he likes to wear a pirate hat. I thought you Judys were all about equal opportunity. (:( (:( (:(
I just imagined my computer screaming for upgrades like a toddler. Damn you for putting that image in my head. :p
You know the people who save-load at every random event until they get exact one they want? That's pure cheese, but they'd probably do it whether or not the metaverse existed, so I don't think scrapping the metaverse would help that. It's not like I care what they do in the privacy of their own home, anyway. On the other hand, if people want to play Ironman games, and come up with a foolproof way to make it uncheatable, I'm happy for them to add it as an option. I just don't want to be labelled
Hehe, I'll have to add this to my next chapter... real-life work's picking up, I probably won't be able to spend as much time writing as I'd like, but I should be able to churn out one more epic :p
Good luck getting that to happen. :)
I liked the idea that a nebula can hide ships, and if they're attacked, they can ambush (i.e. the ship hiding in the nebula gets the first shot, even though it's defending). Maybe have asteroid fields that aren't impassable, but give a bonus to smaller ships in a fight - cause they can dodge asteroids that dreadnoughts can't. That could encourage some combined-arms thinking. If the enemy's got lots of dreadnoughts going around, and you've only got cheap ships, you could send your stack
Only thing is with empire spending the way it is now, it's hard to take advantage of planet-specific bonuses for ships.
Think positive. Maybe they'll bump up crippling and some of the other hard levels in the next update. I'm sure we could have our wino support group focus on Metaverse addiction for one meeting. :)
When's the coronation? We have to plan our "welcoming stunt" 4 to 6 weeks in advance. :p
FRUNGY! THE SPORT OF KINGS!!! Star Control 2 was a lot of fun :) As for SC1 - IIRC, it had fixed jump lanes, but no fuel limits, and there wasn't any way to sit in empty space between stars. It was fun, sure, but not letting people float in space would change the whole feel of GalCiv. The only way to build resource starbases would be to give them their own jump points to nearby planets. If you can run old DOS games on your computer, I'm sure you could find SC1 a
The only major difference I see is that with those FPS examples, you realize right away that you've messed up. Here, you can make a blunder and not realize it until a long way down the track. Ever played any RPGs where this sort of thing happens? "Quick! You know that scroll you were given three months ago that everyone said was worthless? It's the spell of ownage! Cast it on the evil wizard and you win!" "Oh, um, that scroll? Well, everyone said it was worthless, so I sold it for a
I would like to see an API which allowed people to write their own AI. Since the players collectively have more resources than the developers, players will eventually write a better AI than the developers could have.
Wow. That idea's definitely got the blood pumping.
My one takes less than a minute to submit, and I'm on a dial-up. Then again, it takes a few minutes to shut down, but that's another story.
Hehe, I believed you, mate. Just a bit of forum-lag - I was replying to the first few posts again, then you posted first, and you thought i meant you should check, then i refreshed and saw your first post and thought that was plenty, and then you went and checked anyway... Ow. My head's spinning around. I'm going to sleep.
Well, it's the only reason I can think of for base military costs gradually increasing, without anything to do with the sliders. It's easy enough to check - if some ships get scrapped, then by next turn, military spending should fall, and maintenance spending should stay the same. If it doesn't, I'll gladly eat my humble pie. [edit: ah, ray already stamped his authority here. oh, well. :)] [Message Edited]
No, no, no. You have to admit, the Europeans have fine jewelry. That would have to be my first stop for any serious looting before Christmas.
Don't forget that military spending figure in the budget includes maintenance on the ships you've built already, as well as military production funding you've set with the sliders. You can kill the production funding by setting the slider to 0%, but you can't cut those ship maintenance costs unless you start trashing your own ships. Oh, and grats on the maso win! :) [Message Edited]
How about if you have a very (VERY) high espionage ability, you occasionally get to listen in on enemy discussions? I get messages about "The Arceans are paying tribute to the Drengin to maintain the peace." Big w00t. How about, "The Arceans are asking the Drengin to invade us!"?
I believe Brad is of the opinion that these cheese-fighting battles are never over and probably a waste of time.
I actually like that comment when you think about the suggestions he
A score of 200001, hey, Cotal? I suppose you're one of the people who always squeezes one more cent out of petrol pumps when it gets rounded down. lol, j/k. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Congrats! :CONGRAT: I fired up a gigantic map once, just to see what I was missing out on. The constant churning on my hard drive told me trying to play it wasn't a good idea. How do you manage the galactic resources spread out all over the place? I have a hard enough time
Simulation isn't bad. I've never tried something as complex as this, and I think I'd probably enjoy it. Also flying through space for a long time just enhances the game for me. It's more of a reward to get somewhere after traveling for a long time, and the longer it is, the more realistic it is to me.
Well, it depends on how interesting the actual "fly through space" part really is. I liked the way it was in Privateer, myself (though that's not a space simulator, I know)
I'm glad you're enjoying the nurse's outfit. :)
This just remined me of a lecture at uni a few years ago. The guest lecturer was talking about all increased litigation, insurance costs, disclaimers, etc. He jokingly said that soon, they'd have to have a warning sign about the folding seats at sportsgrounds or in this lecture hall. Someone coughed, and pointed out the "CAUTION: Seats are folding" sign behind the lecturer.
ROFL!!!!! Ah, that's got the next story going in my head already... thanks for that! LOL LOL LOL
Shoot... well, I opened my mouth to complain about it, I'd better get that list done. It might as well be the order they show up in the forum - the "prequels" are more fun to read that way, even if they're not in perfect step with the others.
