Just won my first Maso game. It was MUCH easier than I expected... I actually found it easier than the average Medium, Painful I played. Let's see how my streak continues... The strategies posted here and other places were very helpful. I didn't have an AI even ASK for tribute throughout the entire game. Played a tiny - diplo maxed out. Earth 19 class and this is the only game I ever played with NO colonization phase. I shared my sector with the Caranoids. I rushed them w

Back from vacation. It sure was quiet this weekend on the boards. I am now playing good as a temporary strategy - it seems easier as my strategy of fighting 5+ wars with each major in a game doesn't seem like it's gonna be a winner on Crippling. I liked the flipism story, Killa. Quack- I'll have to remember to ground Ashlyn for time-traveling when she gets older.... Happy Raiding, Cypher ~SDC~
By the way, you're more than welcome to jon GROSS - and don't worry about the rules. We're pirates - we don't have rules. You can join and leave if you want. Actually, anyone in theses forums is likely to help you.... and there are a number of good strategies available. GROSS is the original evil empire and the most infamous set of space pirates in the Metaverse. We are also the most active empire on the message boards -- both GROSS and Pirates of the South Seas are our thre
All right, Wombie! Yet another great story... I'd been starving for a good story. Thanks, Cypher ~SDC~
This sounds interesting, but it doesn't seem to fit in the current mechanics of the game. Frogboy has mentioned a possible future feature (GalCiv?) for designing ships. I believe there may have been one for the OS/2 version of GalCiv. So you may get part of what you want... If you're interested in playing a privateer, you're welcome to join GROSS. We're all about smuggling ... and general piracy. Cheers, Cypher ~SDC~
sorry double post! [Message Edited]
Thanks for all the congratulations! We're pretty excited.... Don't have much to say, but Threadzilla seemed hungry. I had to go before my town today. It seems they want to drain the pond that made the infamous gazebo necessary. I suspect a MWC plot... but I can't prove anything yet. I may actually get to try out the expansion pack tonight... :D I'd like to get in a game before my big vacation. I thought I should leave some instructions for Ashlyn:<b
Hey folks, Great News! Mrs. Pax and I have another little pirate on the way! This release is due between early and late June... Guess we don't need to use the transmortifiger-thing-a-majimgee on Mrs. Pax after all. ;) Most of my family doesn't know yet, but I wanted to make sure Killa didn't accuse me of holding back good story material again. Yeah! Cypher [Message Edited]
Maso does seem like the only way to score big. I think that anyone who says that scoring isn't a big part of why they play is not being completely honest (at least for those of us who are active on the forum.) Galatic Civilizations is a great game, but there are a lot of great games out there that I only spend a month or so on. What keeps me coming back is the metaverse (particularly the people in my empire) and being able to contribute to an empire keeps my interest level up. If thi
Welcome back, Thelon!
Let's see.... Ray AI Plots your defeat even while your computer is turned off. This AI penalizes you for not playing continually. Each time you close the game or even shut down the computer, the Ray AI runs through each of your saved games and tests out the perfect adaptive strategy to beat you just as an experiment. If you play the Ray AI, make sure you finish the game in one sitting. Otherwise you'll load saved games only to find that the Ray AI has already finished a ga
Pontius -- There is Australian wine label in the $8 -$15 dollar range that I like a lot: Black Opal. Hurley says it is export only and not available in Australia. They make my favorite reds - though I'm hardly an expert. -Cypher
Bakka, The tradition to let the crew of a surrendered ship carry on to the next port. Why only 24 hours though? You'd be a good pirate... -Cypher
Congrats to the Veteran Koala... I could give you a lot of interesting Mrs. Pax tidbits, she is quite an interesting gal... Pontius -- Thanks for the advice --- and the wine list. I am familiar with a few of the wines on the list (Beringer, Turning Leaf,Robert Mondavi) and I enjoy them, so I'm looking forward to trying the rest out.. Cheers, Cypher
Quack - Another classic for the War of the Worlds! :HOT: Pontius -- Writing stories and still dropping bombs - I'm speechless. I'm sorry to say, I don't know if I'll get my weekly game in as real life is being uncooperative. (:( I'm interested the wine discussion and perhaps could use some advice. Mrs Pax has a migrane problem (perhaps it's because she's married to me) and reds or dry whites give her a headache. We typically drink $7 bottles of Beringer White Zinf
Great Work, Wombat! :CONGRAT: Tales from the POSSE sounds great.... I don't even remember either story you cited from me, so I can't imagine how much work that took... Cheers, Cypher
Dear Dark Assassin, I certainly don’t have anything against you personally. Since you are utterly evil, so I’m not surprised you don’t understand my wholesome family values. 1. My daughter doesn’t like Mexican food. For daughter-daddy days we often fire bomb Taco Bells and they head over to the nearest neighborhood bar to clean our weapons and enjoy some Root Beer. It’s practically like Norman Rockwell painting. Your emperor is Hairy the Taco, what kind of father would I b
I don't have a problem with negoitating a peace settlement with an AI that's about to disappear. One condition is the decommision of the navy, another is whatever terms you can get... if you've culture flipped a number of systems, it's not like you exterminated their race. Plus, there have to be physical assets of a culture that could be liquadated... I think it makes sense economically and I assumed the AI knows enough to do this...
The AI can build up quite a bit of debt, but while their debt is over -500 BC, they aren't building anything. Did you bankrupt them for a peace settlement? At some point, you may see a rebellion -- but in my experience this is rare. Happy Raiding, Cypher Pax
Killa- Nice coverage of the trial. :D Wombat - I'll wait for your rescue story... hope I didn't step on your toes! I can't wait to hear what's next.. Cypher
Great start to the rescue, Wombat and Jaws... I was responding to Dark Assasin on the Evil Empire thread and I added the next part (I am copying it here, because I don't know how much of the POSSE reads their thread - assume the setting is there 'home world.' Since this is the POSSE thread, you get the special extended version with the deleted scene. The Rescue? Just as the Dark Assasin finished speaking, he heard the cry of 'incoming.' It was the only warni
Hope you guys don't mind me contributing a story, the early two parts by Wombat and Jaws our on the Pirates of the South Seas thread.
The Rescue? Just as the Dark Assasin finished speaking, he heard the cry of 'incoming.' It was the only warning he needed as he slipped into the shadows just in time to avoid being caught in the impact crater of a large white Drop Bear. 'Darn' exclaimed Cypher Pax as he dusted himself off. 'Dark, I don't suppose I'd be elgible for assasination lessons? At 700 pounds, Cypher Pax was capable of firing the helicopter gatling gun from his hip. At hundreds of rounds pe
Pontius -I feel for you! I had sinking money into my car... I don't know if you've paid for washing machine yet, but you can get a new washing machine for less than 400... Of course, I'm cheeaappp.... so I always buy wants on sale at Home Depot. Just finished my first gigantic... thankfully I got the Draginol event. Spend money like crazy, actually had such a huge military that I got the last planet of the Torians, Altarians, Drending, Alexians, and Fundamentals in trade. Had to tak
Nice work! This is a great theme... :)
