Psychocircus, In a previous position I worked with publishing industry clients and had Mac. To play on the corporate environment I had Virtual PC. Since I travelled with this machine, I also installed games. Games like Gal Civ that didn't require graphics accelerators ran pretty well (Starcraft, Warcraft II, Civ 2, MOO 2, Sim City) so you'd probably be okay... In fact, in general, my Windows 98 Virtual PC was more stable than my PC running it at home. I don't know that the price of

In my experience, the galactic prison has a jailbreak nearly every game. The pirates seem pretty weak when they start, so I almost always take it. I just make sure there is a frigate or better on that system... ~SDC~
G'morning, I didn't get any Galactic Civ in last night on the account of the Yankees game (hey, I was born and spent most of my life in New York so how could I NOT be a Yankees fan). My immediate goal is to get to the Top 25 at least temporarily. I did briefly get there in June during the 1.05 switch... but that didn't really count because of the score inflation in that version. Anyway, I'm extending my vacation as a mercernary to ANZAC for a little longer. I enj
Thanks for the welcome, everyone. I think I might stay around for a while as the Fellowship is not currently in striking distance of GROSS and the MWC does not pose an immediate threat. The most fun time in the Metaverse for me was when we were battling various other empires, so thanks for the welcome. It's just much more interesting when it seems like my games mattered... awhile ago we were going to try a war of the worlds, but it never really got off the ground. I'm a vete
Sirian, Thanks for the invite. By the way, being a 'threat' is a good thing in our community - I think we'd all love to see a new competitive empire shake things up again... particularly one that brings in expert players. Your website is great... and I'd keep plugging it in this thread so that this stays on the front page. Welcome, Cypher Pax ~SDC~
Good Day, Mates... Hope you don't mind me taking a little Australian vacation. As the only member of the POSSE not be a former ANZAC member, I could not resist the opportunity to visit and knock our arch-rivals - the MWC out of third place. Blue Steel - Feel free to kick me out. At the rate you're going you don't need me... Cheers, Cypher [Message Edited]
I'll be back...
I forgot the Survey Ship Game. Early one the pirates of GROSS had this story that our pirate vessels were survey ships. As I result, I use the survey ship a lot - in fact, I have even been able to rush a major on maso once with a survey ship and still use it to rush minors. I try to protect the ship and nurtue it throughout the game, I have had three games where I've used the survey ship to take out Dreadnoughts. About half the time, I can built it up enough to take down Frigate
I play the power up game with my survey ship, I don't keep stats, but I do keep track of ships killed. Had one survey ship take out 2 Torian Dreadnoughts and 3 Frigates without needing repair. Was playing War Party with a number of military starbases...
Killa - Great Stories! Made my morning... otherwise I have 6 hours of code reviews. >:( Wombat & JAWS: Great Scores. The active POSSE (Killa, Wombat, Jaws, Hurley, Quack, and Cypher) has a total of 927,973.5 points If the POSSE were still in an independent franchise, we'd be in 8 place. If the POSSE were still a ANZAC franchise, the ANZAC republic would be the first place empire (by a narrow margin). Thats not bad for 6 people - though JAWS and Wombat are carryin
Matthew, This post and your last story on the last fellowship thread were great! I'll add a 'game' for you: Induce major to commit suicide: It seems that major races don't live in confinement any better than large predators do. Sometimes when I'm about to eliminate a race, I colonize am isolated low PQ and name it 'Ashlyn's Zoo' after my daughter. Then I'll give it them as a 'gift', then take their other systems. They don't like living in the zoo (or the PQ kil
I think Paguma hit the nail on the head. Later in the game, I'd gladly lose a full transport to make an alien 64 billion pop system useless. Taking out PQ and improvements in this situation would make the planet ungovernable and cause the major all sorts of debt.... It doesn't seem like it could be balanced, I think this would be a valid tactic as is if the AI elected to use invasion tactics on you... I;ve only ever lost 3 systems so I don't know how often the majors use the
I never thought of this as cheese. You should get something for conquering a civilization. I think of it as negoitating take-over terms. ;) ~SDC~

I'm starting to warm to the masoverse. I always liked the smaller maps since I can finish them in a sitting. It's so much more fun for me than having a game that I have to remember all week... Now with both the challenge increace and scoring reward small maps at maso, I'm a wannabe cranker. With Mrs. Pax in bed early due to pregnancy tiredness, I may be getting a LOT of games in. Hope everyone is well. It's sort of quiet around here, except for that troll.
The Transport Gambit: In my last game, I found myself in a desperate situation. Conquest of the Alexians was next on my to-do list and the Drendin were about to beat me to it. My survey ship revealed that not only had the Drendin taken out the defenses but they had three transports that would land in the next turn and they would only need one. If the Drendin took the planet, the game was over as they already had 3 systems to all the other incredible AIs 1 or 2. Not wanting

Sirian, Welcome to the Galactic Civilization community. You seem to have already mastered the game. Thanks for sharing. The Realms Beyond site is great as well. Happy Raiding, Cypher
EBZ, Glad you stopped by! The Masoverse hasn't been the same -- and GROSS certainly misses you. The GCCG was the prototype for maso cranking -- you can still crank at maso on tiny/rare - and Cotal seems to be able to crank at Maso / Gigantic. The shift is now to use Influence Points as currency. I'm working on getting my time down, as it will be the only way I can post games quickly. I did learn a lot from your guide in this respect. Glad you're enjoying MOO3. It seems lik
Arghh. matey. Join up with the pirates, fly the Jolly Roger on your ship, and plunder these bilge rats. It's fun to hear them beg isn't it? Once you're a pirate, you can help yourself to whatever you want from these lubber empires. Happy Raiding, Cypher ~SDC~
Dark, Perhaps you shouldn't be spreading more of our secrets. Next you're going to tell everyone we are actually members of the Illumanti. I like the idea, unfortunately, I am actually at war with everyone else... as a pirate you have to be an equal opportunity plunderer (and least of those that have things worth sharing). But I'm always up for a Black Op... -Cypher ~SDC~
If you don't think one evil being can scare others, then you should stop by for the GROSS Torian taco and beer night on the DOOM mess hall. I'll challenge you to sit next to me after 12 tacos.... that ought to provide a proper sense of fear. I'm not a WMD just for my dropping abilities. Here I'll leave a sample... oh and sorry for the dead slaves. ~SDC~
Threadzilla seems to have recovered nicely. She actually loaded quickly today! ~SDC~
Ray and Vincible, Just wanted to post a thank you for the maso strategies thread. Ray - I followed your tiny, rare walkthrough (except got sick of control-n and took a central sector that I shared with the Caranoids). It worked so well that I got through the ENTIRE game without being asked for tribute. Actually after 2180, I was ahead of everyone in everything except military (since I was busy building constructors). People afraid of Maso should read the strategy thr
Sorry - double post due to lag! Threadzilla needed a treat as she's obviously not feeling well. Maybe she'll feel better after tomorrow morning's procedure. - Cypher [Message Edited]
