Stardock Central was not updating after the last built for me either. Now it doesn't show any threads, even when I attempt to refresh. Didn't release this was a widespread problem..

Okay, you guys are scaring me. Please forget all those comments about the 'Diet Coke' of Evil. I'll be going now.. (:(
Speaking of which, I wouldn't be surprised if Theoden becomes a Veteran soon.
Congrats, Wombat! I think it's going to be pretty hard for anyone to get that silver medal away from you!
I follow a similiar stategy as stated a couple of times above. As a rule, I don't build defenders or star fighters unless I have a good reason to do so (i.e. I can capture a system or rush a ship to prevent a transport landing.) As a result, the AIs are quite belligerent. Per a tip from Cotal, I found that continually giving a AI a single influence point I can stay on their good side despite my lack of military. By the time, I build a few corvettes my economy is humming (beca
Ships repair quickest in orbit. They repair when not in orbit - they do repair when they are moved and used, though it is much slower than when in orbit. If you're a warmonger like me, repair is critical. Ships are expensive to replace. I typically destroy 150-200 ships on medium map while losing only 30-40. I don't bother using starting picks on repair, but I do research repair technologies quickly. (I'm not sure it's worth it - I view Corvettes and lower as cannon fodder a
I have loaded the majority of the events and I have never have had problems with submission. I can't think of anything that's unbalancing in that library. I have also loaded the party pack for some games. The parties in it have slightly more picks, but the AI knows enough to pick them as well.... in fact, if you don't pick a party from the party pack - you'll be the one at the disadvantage. Haven't tried any of the other mods, but I would be interested in hearing which ones a

Just started a CypherPax blog. This is a great site. Thanks, Frogboy! http://CypherPax.joeuser.com
I just established on blog on Joe User, pretty cool. I don't want to upset Theadzilla, but she might have some competition... - Cypher
I'm currently playing my first gigantic game and it's a eye-opener. Generally, I have the game wrapped up by the time I get Dreadnoughts. I moved down a level of difficulty to Tough (only leaving the Yor at Intelligent) and I'm getting a pretty good run for my money. Everyone ended up with 40+ systems except for the Yor who mangaged to grab 4 systems (The Alexians got 3 in comparison and much better systems at that). Anyway, it's been a lot of fun. Never seen warfare on this scale
From a architects prospective, I found article you referenced dead on. A good design can be implemented successfully on either a Micosoft platform or a Linux / J2EE platform. I know -- I am in the strange position of designing for both. For an expense position, it seems ludicrous to argue that Microsoft server-side development is less expensive or as extensible. However, I haven't even seriously considering running Linux on any of my PCs. For this reason, it seems like consumer d

Wow! I was happy to see all the great additions this morning. It was a great diversion from work. I'm ready for vacation, even though I don't get to leave until the end of them month (Sept 28). (:( The problem is that I'm already there mentally. I'm headed to Atlantis http://www.Atlantis.com Can I leave Ashlyn with you guys? She'd have more fun than she will with my in-laws. Ray- As usual you explain things better and simpler than I do. No wonder you're the oracle of the metaverse. ;) - Cypher
Blue Steel, Low scores don't punish your empire score. Any score at all is added to the total.... eliminating scores of zero wouldn't help your empire score, but they may help you in Forum rankings (like when Gerakken runs his empire numbers). I like the kangaroo sign... perhaps you should rotate logos, you have 4 good ones!! Go Anzac republicans! - Cypher
Exalted Spymaster Gerakken, Thanks for the encouragement. It seems like my slow but steady approach is working. I'm hoping to get to the main page, but many of people ahead of me are still playing, so my immediate goal is a conquest of the medium boards. Granted this is a modest goal since no one is particularly interested in the medium boards. But this drop bear knows the roles of drop bears, we're simply grunts in the bigger war. I keep asking myself why I couldn't have b
Hairy, I think you're going to have a hard time recruiting established evil players... but new players are a valid source of points. (I had about 4,000 k when I joined GROSS.) You guys are doing fine and it's good to have some evil cousins to make us look 'good' in comparison. We are a evil-themed empire and everyone roleplays that to some extent. It just seems to restrictive to tell someone they HAVE to play a certain way (if you look at the Evil ranking board you'll find th
Any thoughts on Vice Admiral criteria 30 games and ?
Just paid my taxes and noticed 12 GROSS members in the EVIL Top 25. We should rename that the Galactic Most Wanted List. Great to see Jaws is back from his vacation. I got 3 weeks left until mine... still debated whether or not to take Ashlyn or leave her with the POSSE (and my in-laws). EBZ- Thanks for popping in! Looks like you're become the admiral of the crank if you spend another 20 minutes for a new game.... Cheers, Cypher
Quack-- Another great reporting pitch! Everyone should want this be a pirate... -Cypher
The Altarians are a pain in the *** sort of a Paladins.... The Altarians and Drendins are usually on the top of my hit list. Seriously, Alliances will often land you in war after war. It's fun if you're stronger, because you can continually offer peace terms at a nice profit. Choose your allies carefully... Cypher ~SDC~ [Message Edited]
Wiley, I thought I'd offer some help because my style of play means I tend to get into this position on painful nearly every game. Generally, the AI is still pathetic at attacking. I've frequently had garrison ships knocked out... but only lost a single planet in five or six games. I think you've done the right thing so far. If you can stay alive long enough, you'll be fine. If you're aggressive, you have a good chance of taking a number of Torian systems. If you survery s
The thread has been too quiet... hope everyone is doing okay. I'm sorry I missed our brief return to #1. It looks like the Fellowship added another one - strangely enough his roleplaying indicates that he seems to realize this is a space game so maybe he'll leave... Anyway, I'm in the middle of an interested game. The minors, Torians and Arceans are all out -- and the Yor are actually doing okay. The Drendin must have started a war with both them and the Altarians because each just
Also, I like taking away planets from each AI.... if you have substantially more systems, then the AI will research will lag and they'll bankrupt themselves constantly trying to replenish the military I destroy periodically for fun. In 24 games I'm played or am playing, an AI has only gotten to Dreadnoughts twice. Happy Raiding, Cypher ~SDC~
