Stardock needs to look at tech victory again now that Alien Tech Victory is on in 1.11. This would seem to defeat the 'Hide in a Corner' victory -- I think they should turn the nerf off and make Alien Tech Victory a normal condition. I think Tech Victory is difficult. I'm only researched Final Fronter 2 or 3 times in thirty games. In most games, I don't have the economy to get to Final Frontier if I wanted to, so it's not like it's a give me. When I do have an economy strong enough

'Sir, Private First Class, Cypher Pax, Airborne Division. Reporting for duty, SIR!' Cypher Pax snapped a crisp salute to the duck. 'Cypher, we keep telling you that you're not a grunt. Look at your uniform for goodness sake, you're now a Rear Admiral!' the duck responded, not bothering to return the salute. 'You're not going to actually let him in, are you? He's nuts.' whispered the Jedi, the newest addition to the elite unit. 'I don't know. I think Wombat is
Kryo, Congrats on #1 in Evil!
There is a ton of interesting stuff in the library. I understand things like events may pose copyright issues (for commercial use of art), but has Stardock considering approving some subset of the ships/techs/anomalies? It could expand GalCiv by a lot (making it nearly impossible to get all the techs in a single game) proably without a lot of cost. Granted Stardock would have to weed through to decide what met their vision of the game, but it potentially add a ton of variety.
Awesome! I'll pre-order it as soon as I can... :HOT: Cypher [Message Edited]
Thanks, Pontius. Remember you're welcome here if you wish... JAWS- What the heck is our logo anyway?
I think it may have been harder to maintain morale in earlier versions of the game. Any old timers care to confirm? For a long time, there was a stickied morale thread, but once I learned the game - I've never had a morale problem. There is still a strategic element to governments and the techs are worth a ton in trade and you can often beat the militistic AIs to Star Democracy & Federation and maintain an advantage. Also, in a well-balanced game, the government tech becomes a must h
Pontius - Thanks for the note. The carpet situation seems to be resolved... the builder came and ripped out the entire carpet this morning. They will also chemically treat the wood by the door and seal it. The builder didn't caulk under the french door. At least he was consistent, none of the four French Doors were caulked on the bottom. Fortunately, that was the only room were the doors meet carpeting so there was no other water damage as far as we could tell. Chee
Jaws - Nice to hear from you... This was a strange week... when Jaws comes back we're in a dog fight for first. If we see the Return of the Jedis, there's an interesting three way fight for first. Not that it changes our current situation that much... but I had given up on a competitive metavers last week. Cheers, Cypher
This thread is in dire need of a drop bear attack. Wait all the Jedi are gone.. they are fighting amounst themselves.. it must be a Sith plot. I'd better run away before they turn on me... .... You guys still have a great empire, please don't let this ruin it for you. -Cypher ~SDC~
Oh, Dear... Pontius once again you're a psychic. I am hiding out at work tonight. The builders didn't seal under a set of french doors in our family room, water got in and the carpeting / floor is moldy. It was so bad that we moved out of the house last night and in with my-inlaws (joy!). The builder is taking care of it, but Mrs. Pax is none too pleased. Mrs. Pax is sick (from the pregnancy) and grumpy... I appreciate your call to arms, but I'm not biting - I'm staying away. Any
Aaberg, I think your system is a neat idea -- it would allow everyone to make a contribution. -Cypher ~SDC~
I apologize if I offended anyone by joining and leaving. The point I was trying to make was that GROSS was decimated by the change to 1.09. We lost almost all of our actives who were not ex-ANZACs. They came over from ANZAC, ironically, just before Blue Steel joined - because ANZAC seemed like a dead empire. Of all the other empires, I've always liked the ANZACs best - so I wanted to show the POSSE that if they went back... I'd follow. I think that between ANZAC and the rem
Are the Arceans playing the War Party? Do they control one or more military resources? The +50% ship bonus is a pretty big bonus, particulary when there is not much difference between a Star Fighter and a Corvette. Also, those military resources can make a huge difference. When I play War party with a couple military star bases, I've found that I can out capital ships with Frigates or at least trade 2 for 1... so that makes a HUGE difference. If it's military resource situa
Most of the time I either: 1. Play offline on my laptop offline 2. Play on my family room couch while my wife does her scrapbooks and we mix in talking and/other watching TV. Neither style of play is friendly to a multiplayer game... particularly, since getting an hour or two to play at a time is the most I can typically hope for. Cheers, Cypher ~SDC~ [Message Edited]
I apologize if my empire switching offending anyone... I was trying to shake things up, but I didn't realize the eventual extent of my disruptions. I'm a member of the POSSE and I am attached to GROSS, but I'll go where the POSSE goes. If we do go to the ANZACs why don't we keep our franchise and act as if the ANZACs acquired us. There is too much good stuff in the thread to abandon it. If the ANZACs then wanted to join the POSSE let them, but I like our animal personas, etc.
Hmmm... I always take +5% PQ as a pick, just so I can grab a couple of PQ 13/14s. I can definitely live without the 1 IP bug on Maso, but I couldn't live without being able to get a planet advantage. The majors not settling PQ 14s bother me at level below crippling, but particularly at maso - I don't see how I could compete if the majors all start with a major edge in planets. I tend to need to Alpha Strike to take out the minors and a major fairly early in the maso game so I
I think the Jedi Republic is the most interesting of the empires these days. If you get Darth Kryo, you may generate enough momentum to eventually take down the Fellowship. May the Force be with you, Cypher ~SDC~
I love Macintosh. As a developer, I haven't seen a disadvantage to developing in either environment... but I write server-side apps which don't interact with my computer much. Always liked Apple Script though and thought the Mac OS environment was simpler, cleaner, and more transparent. The main problem with Macintosh is expense (though I know this is a strange arguement from someone who owns a Silicon Graphics box) and lack of games. You have to play Mac games for longer since they
Having helped you get into #2 place, I had to go home. I had a great time, maybe I'll come back and stay longer... The ANZACS can take #2 on your own with Jaws on vacation as well. You're only around 100K away and the MWC is even closer. I think it's great having a fight for 2-4.. should make things interesting again. So long and thanks for all the fish, Cypher ~SDC~
I'm baccckkkk...
Don't worry wombat -- I'm back. We can't fall behind the MWC... [Message Edited]
Is was a good game - and I don't mind getting beat at my own game. LOL We should try to think of some other games as the forum hasn't been this active since the last scoring debate, and this is much more fun. -Cypher
Alverin, Thanks for the AAR. Sounds like an interesting game. I rarely have trouble with the Drendin unless then get into the position you describe in which case they seem very tough to beat. The Torians usually get a better start, but the Yor are generally pathetic. In the interest of 'fair play' I generally boost the Yor up a difficulty level from the rest of the AIs. Unless they get an 'incredible' rating, they tend not to do well... Happy Raiding, Cypher
