I have a couple of very low scoring Cakewalks. I also have a very high scoring one. There is nothing wrong with submitting any game, be it easy or hard.

Generally I build lots of constructors on the military side and anything that increases research and/or influence on the social side. It's worked for me, I hope it helps you.

I'm not usually good at everything initially, but I boost my research stats with the Technologists and have + on research and economy. With the massive amount of research I do, I usually dominate the late game.
