I'm quite certain BoXXi's post was a typo. Most LCD or plasma screens last from 10,000 to 20,000 hours, typically 1-2 years running 24/7.

IPlural... Over the past 6 years, I have purchased about 20 refurbished monitors that were factory reconditioned by Sony and ViewSonic. The CAD operators, engineers and designers who use them on a daily basis have all been happy with them, and thus far, we only had two of the very first reconditioned monitors fail (after 4+ years). We test them on a routine basis, and to be quite honest, I've been very pleasantly surprised at how well this program has worked out. Jafo, I'm with you re

I'm eminently capable of demonstrating both characteristics -- occasionally in the same activity... <img src="http://images.stardock.com/images/smiles/lol
When I clicked on this thread, "Monitors - Your Thoughts" for some reason I was certain I was going to read about some type of Orwellian Big Brother type conspiracy... At any rate, as a design engineer, I've found over the y

Wow, surprised that name wasn't taken already...
Let's see if we can put this in a way that you'll understand... its like you were playin with your fruity loops, you know that you got off KaZaA and you laid down this really cool track. The perfect beat, you know? dum shh shh dum di di di boom shhhh boom waaahhh ahhh... anyway, the whole thing was just like awesome. So you took it and burned it on a CD with that cracked copy of Nero, and like gave it to your bud cuz he knows these guys that hang out with Creed, ya know? And then last w
That's exactly the kind of thing I'm talking about, Travis. The more I explore DX, the more I see possibilities for truly personalizing the interface, functionally as well as aesthetically. If we can get the creative energies of both sides working together, I think we will all see some amazing things showing up in the Newest Additions list. I have a lot more learning and exploring and experimenting to do yet, but I am very excited about the possibilities. Just think of the potential.
Geeks are cool!
Baker Street... I agree with you completely on the subject of the Fair Use provisions of the law. I personally feel that if there is any doubt whatsoever about a work being copied or derived from the work of another, that the original author's rights should be protected and defended. Period. My post said nothing about supporting ripping, warez, or a liberal interpretation of fair use. In fact, grayhazes comment regading icon use <TABLE cellpadding=8 width="95%" align=center bg
I am quite aware of the original meaning, but this is a family site...
Interesting footnote on the price when you go to the linked product" HP is not liable for pricing errors. If you place an order for a product that was incorrectly priced, we will cancel your order and credit you for any charges. In the event that we inadvertently ship an order based on a pricing error, we will issue a revised invoice to you for the correct price and contact you to obtain yo
Imagine if you combine some of the great DX coders with some of the great skinners...imagine what kind of objects you will end up with. I think that if Desktop X is really going to capture the hearts and minds, Hus is right, and that is exactly what needs to happen, and hopefully will. Right now what I see a lot of in the new DX listings is eithe
losstarot, my guess would be that you have run into the 50MB download limit. You can have access to unlimited downloads if you own or purchase a Stardock Product https://www.stardock.com/ or if you purchase a subscription to Wincustomize https://www.wincustomize.com/store/ Both options are some of the best value for your dollars you'll ever receive. /me considers how to pour oil on the waters without letting it reach the flames. grayhaze, I agree with you that reminding people to respect the copyright and other intellectual property rights of the creator(s) is a good thing. These rights are among the most valuable rights an artist or author has, and deserve to be honored, protected and defended by all. Law, in general, however, is very much open to interpretation and is constantly being reviewed and revised by court cases
If you are an Object Desktop subscriber, have you downloaded the user manual that is available on SDC (Stardock Central)? It's available on SDC on the software tab under Documentation. It's an Adobe .pdf file, approximately a 3 MB download, and contains 119 pages of useful information about Object Desktop and its components. Beginning on page 107 is a section entitled "Skinning The Start Menu." <br

Stumpy, I'm sorry if I embarassed you... It wasn't my intent. This was one of those rare typos that actually forms a word and seems funny in context. It was just too tempting for me to pass by... No hard feelings?
Happy Birthday BoXXi! Cheers to you!
f0r3 asked Hey Shameless... How does the TweakNow Powerpack work for you?? I tried it when it was relatively new and it wasn't really very useful.. Haven't tried it again since. Would you recommend it? Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner on this. My answer is, it depends. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/images/smiles/jokegrim.gif" bord

I understand your pain... having been where you are the first time I tried setting up our home network using XP, Ethernet, and TCP/IP... I seriously fantasized about committing a number of heinous crimes... but I digress. I got a lot of very useful help from the newsgroups and chatrooms here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/default.mspx and learned quite a few things from the art
Take a look at this Sysmetrix skin by pinchecl https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?library=28&SkinID=1195 as an example of how Sysmetrix can be used as a dock of sorts. Sysmetrix is also very easy to skin and to modify the configuration of existing skins. It works quite well to launch applications and web pages, and offers many other nice features as well. You can read more about Sysmetrix here: http://www.xymantix.com/sysmetrix/ <img src="http://images.stardock.com/images/smiles/joke.gif"
Or you can just go here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp and download TweakUI.exe which will allow you to hide the recycle bin. Or you can go here: http://www.tweaknow.com/ and get TweakNow Powerpack which, besides letting you remove the bin, will give you the option to rename the bin instead of removing it (Mine is labeled "Rejects" at the moment). <img src="
