PCP, I think your comment is strengthening Draginol's stance. I wasn't able to follow any argument at all that you put forth for hating Bush. When you talk about "the people who put him there", I guess you are talking about his cabinet members. I think he has the best staff there could have been. Cheney, Powell, and Rice are incredible minds with diverse backgrounds. I think more highly of them than of GW. When you say he waivers to polls, what example do you give? I don'

I think for any kind of parenting, if the parents don't present a united front, you will cause more harm than good. I found that out the hard way. I was/am the softy. I would disagree with my husband right in front of the kids...very bad idea. The kids will quickly learn to try to use that. Now, I back him up whether I agree or not. We then discuss it without the kids around. YOu can always make adjustments afterward. Don't let guilt or anything else fog your better judgement. T

What a beautiful baby! Oh I remember those days like it was yesterday. Today, November 30, is my oldest's 7th birthday. It flies by so fast! I bet you can see Kenny changing every day. I remember how tiring it was to feed the little guy every 2 hrs (first one was like clock work). They change quickly. Soon he will be awake a lot more, eating and pooping less often and interacting a lot more. It is all so wonderful! Best wishes!

I just had to write about this because it is in my face every day. Too many parents let their kids walk all over them these days! A prime example is played out in a commercial that irks me every time I see it. It is the one about which is more frustrating, sharing a phone with a teen or dealing with dial up. Whenever the snotty teen says, "I'm on the phone!" I think, that parent should say, "Are you paying the phone bill? Until you do, you will use the phone when I say you can." H

Most people I know think I'm a hick because I HAVE done most of those things (I'm in my early 30s). My kids haven't done any of those either. They are only 7 and 3 though ;) I don't plan to ever have them butcher or pluck. Those weren't among my fondest memories. Kids now think they are roughing it if they go without TV and video games for any amount of time. I must admit, I am pretty partial to my creature comforts these days. I do miss the days of picking berries and making cobb

I don't need to see bodies on TV to know that war is hell. It wouldn't change my mind though. I think you are wrong about the reason people protested Vietnam. It wasn't becasue they saw dead soldiers on TV. It was because they didn't believe in the reason for putting the soldiers there in the first place.

It is always easiest to blame others for the way things are. I agree with Patty O that material stuff isn't what it is all about. I grew up with parents that had nothing. They didn't feel sorry for themselves. They got married, struggled and now have a nice life. Everyone expects to have everything NOW these days. I remember how fun it was to look forward to birthdays and Christmas but not because of presents. I looked forward to being with friends and family, and having special foods and

Kids love making stuff. Try making garland out of loops of constuction paper or popcorn. I used to love that! Even if you can get a dog for free, there are many unexpected costs that can occur. It is probably best you don't get one. What about shots, illnesses that require medicine, etc? A puppy is a lot like having another baby. I agree that Christmas shouldn't be about spending money. Concentrate on making traditions that don't cost anything. Make ornaments, cook with each oth

Thanksgiving was enjoyable again this year. We have been going to our cousin's home for Thanksgiving for the past few years and it has become a nice tradition. There was adjustments to be made in the beginning of course, but I truly enjoy it now. Spending this holiday with my inlaws was quite a change. It seems as though Thanksgiving was pretty much the same for the first 21 years of my life. It was spent with my Mom's side of the family. It pretty much consisted of good food, fo

My husband first discovered the "laundry machines" when I broke my leg. He usually avoids laundry at all cost. Once clothing is used, it gets dumped wherever and the fairies take it away and make it all better ;)

I like your style JeremyG :) I try to combat such behavior by saying things to my 3yr old like "Sweetie, see that? That is called being rude. That's not nice. Let's not be rude." People either will look a little emabarrassed when I do that or give me the finger or something ;) I grew up in a small town so I was raised on waving to passersby. I have always thought, and tell my children that new people are potential friends. Of course we teach them to be careful of strangers. Ther

I did a little shopping at our local Sam's Club today and was dissappointed in the behavior of a few people. Even my 3yr old commented. His usual comment when someone is misbehaving is "bad guy!" One such "bad guy" had a hissy when we were exiting the store and the woman checking reciepts informed him he had to enter through the other door. He started saying things like "Stick it in your hat lady! You can kiss my butt!" It was comical in a sad way. I just couldn't believe a man in his 5

My friend, that baby is going to change your life in more ways than the obvious. The family politics really get going once children enter the picture. Everyone thinks they have rights that you may feel they don't. It is their grandchild, niece, nephew, etc, but you are the parent. Just be up front about how you feel. Try not to let anyone dampen the joy that being a parent brings. How exciting! As soon as she goes into labor, the whole shower issue won't mean a thing. Best of luc

Regarding the lies told when drinking, I enjoyed (in college) telling people I was really drunk, knowing they were and I wasn't, just to see what they would say about what happened. 65% of the time (statistic pulled out of my rear) they would come up with some crazy story about how you flirted with this person, or puked on that person. Meanwhile, you are chuckling away because you remember everything and know this person is full of it.

I think this article covers the freedom to hate. It just states that you aren't free to act upon that hate however you see fit. I personally feel the whole gay union subject is a non-issue. If "marriage" is defined as a union between a man and a woman, then they can't get married. I don't see why, however, that gays can't make a legal commitment to each other and receive the same sort of benefits. Why wouldn't we encourage committed, gay relationships? Just as I don't want to see g

"the North won and perpetuated the South's evil institutions." How so? You seem to throw the word "evil" around a lot. It loses its meaning when you say both slavery is evil and Watergate is evil. So many people still talk about how scandalous Watergate was. I think those people are naive. It is pretty mild compared to many, many other things that go on within our government. The whites are the unjust, unmerciful, blood thirsty ones, eh? I look at what goes on in other countries

What a living nightmare! My heart aches for you because I am so close to my Mom and can't even imagine having to deal with that. I have had relatives with similar problems. In some ways it can feel like having them die over and over. My husband's grandmother had a tumor in her brain. My mother-in-law says she wishes I could have known her before. His grandmother was in her 80s though so maybe your Mom's age will work in her favor. As long as there is life, there is hope. Here is

I am happy for you that you have turned your life around but you have got to see that this is exactly the sort of thing working people resent about welfare. While your husband vacations from work and you aren't exactly busting your butt for a job, other people are busting their butts to support you. Do you know how many parents would love to be involved with their childrens' school but can't because they have to work?! That is the difference in mindset, as I see it, for most people who become

Well, the good news is, I got a lot done today, therefore, I don't need an intervention as I suggested earlier. The bad news is I had to lock the laptop away in my rolltop desk and stay clear until I got everything done on my list (Thank goodness for that list). Tomorrow is another busy day but I should have ample time for blogging. Got a new minivan today! I know that doesn't sound too exciting but hey, it is still a new car with new car smell. It has a DVD player in it which is a

Boy did I waste my day! I slept in because the boys let me. I woke up with a horrendous sinus headache. It was one of those that covered all bases, pressure behind your eyes, bridge of nose, back of head and the top of my head felt like it was going to blow. I also felt like I could hurl at any moment. So I took some sinus meds, drank some water and dozed on the couch until my poor children and husband needed food. Sunday is waffle day so I always make waffles. It was 67 degrees o

I think it is a bit extreme to say they should get a vasectomy. Vasectomies are most appropriate for people who are married, have children, and are certain they don't want more children. Same is to be said for tubal ligation. There is no way to get around the fact that the woman has the most to lose from an unwanted pregnancy. It is one of those life isn't fair things. It isn't fair if a couple gets pregnant, the guy wants the baby but the woman aborts it. I know, I know, it is her

Tj, I sympathize with Shoshana. As I said early on, I originally questioned if the discrepancy was becasue of racial reasons. You don't need a lot of info to know that you "saw" Shoshana walking as she returned from Iraq. You merely need to see how Jessica moves like an 80yr old now to know some extent of her injuries. The doctors reports say her bladder and bowels are paralyzed. If you are so into sympathizing, can you imagine that? I am in no way excusing the way the media cove
