Here is my 2 cents. I am an average player and only play pickup games, so advanced guys will have better advice. I have tried BOTF and BOTS builds with ooze, spit and hybrid. With BOTS i was unstoppable and pretty much marched around like I owned the place, got to the Citadel in record time, had tons of early kills with infinite spits and foul graps. However that was only against noobs. Against good players, i was crushed, i had no staying power and my life w
Extractors in non-colonizable grav wells are more efficient than on planets - send your colony frig there first, at least if you don't need the planets for cash/defense/slots or you have spare colonizers, or you need to keep the colonizer out of the fight.
How do you get to extract these roids that are in non-colonizable wells? I try to get my colony ship to take them over but they just sit t

I am new. I have some questions 1) How fast does the shield mitigation go up? Is it instaneous or would the first volley all get to count at only 15% shield mitigation? If it takes a second to kick in then the best thing would be to focus fire one volley into one target then change to focus fire a second volley into a second target and so on letting all focus fires hit at only 15% mitigation. 2) If left alone what will the fleet do by

I have tried Maso again at a huge map (instead of samll), it is more diffuclt i believe. If have a good start with lots of planets to colonize, i get militarily behind early and get attcked by everyone and get sqashed-game over. If i start off sucluded, i can last quite a bit longer, however, there comes a time when AI can't be appeased with bribes and/or i run out of stuff to bribe them with. I am currently in a game where this happened, the Yor had a terrible start and i knocked them out.

Hello, I did manage to get it working again, by doing the same the over and over agian until it just worked. What i mean is that, i put the win xp pro disk in the CDROM and it finally booted from, it took several tries as it stopped during various stages of the set up. I did scan for virus afterward with norton antivirus 2004, after doing a live up date of the virus software, and everything was clean. I don't think it was a virus, as a virus was never detected upon startup

Thanks so much for responding. It is a frustrating problem. The floppy drive (3.25 inch) won't read any disk, boot disk or not, until i boot off of my backup drive with win 98, then it can detect a floppy disk but tells me that the disk is blank and needs to be formatted, and it can format a disk. This is not good becasue my ether net card divers are on a floppy and i can't load them and get on the internet for help. I can't boot off a CDROM either, it gives me an error messa

Everysince I started playing Galciv and install the stardock software, when i close the game Internet Explorer has had problems, and won't work until i shut down and restart the computer. Last time, IE still didn't work, everything else seemd fine, tried unistalling and reinstalling IE, with no change. So then i tried installing windows XP pro over itself. Instead what i got was a computer that doesn't hardly work at all now. The Bios detects all my hardware, yet can't boot from the floppy t

Captain Jack, well i am proud to say that i one at Maso level. My first game i expanded all over like i usually do and had my planets start flipping away. Started over and had 3 resources in the same sector as Earth, but thanks to logistics, i had constructors just sittingon them until i could raise enough cash, by then i was at war with 4 AIs for no apparrent reason. Last game took your advice and bribed my way through most of the dangers, and in the end game had to resort to flipping and te

Thanks, I don't really no why one would want cultural defense over the attack kind though, it seems one could try to outscore an opponent with the attack style influence instead of only playing defence aand at best just staying even. The only way i can see it being uselful is if it is much cheaper and the playa is not interested in a cultural war or victory. Also does the terror star have its own built in influence. I notice that there are % next to each stage like it is adding infl

i liked moon project, but the game would get slow, especially just sitting thier mining and building tanks for the next mission. I never finished the game because of that. However builing the vehicles and watching them in acton was a great aspect of that game.

Borders would be difficult to program; but some other ideas would be to claim your own territory like nations do now, the same plot of land could be calimed by more than one nation causing border wars. diplomacy and military might would play a part in how much space to cliam. You could have planets in other peoples' space, if it was an ally it would be ok, but if in an enemy controlled space it might have a moral penatly, or have to pay some sort of rent. territorys could have settings like g

.
corvettes are attacking the death knight 1 at a time, and gradually lowering its hit points
Yes, but he the death knight only attacks once ie shooting at one corvette before being attacked again by a stack. Fleets can work to your advantage if your mix classes, a lot of worthless ships like corvetes can add to an attack significantly if paired with one up to date capitol ship. the reason is the defending ship(s) wiill only attack the ship with the highest defen

I don't know how but one major did obtain diplo translators from a minor. they beat me to it, i traded to get it and had a huge diplomatic advantage over everyone but the minor and the one major. One way to be able to get more Trade Good & wonders is to do most of your own researching with race bonuses in research; then not trade the techs to the other AIs, thus giving yourself extra time to build them.

I am an isolationist, and don't like to deal with other races much. I pick the federalist with +20 social and +20 military, which lets me build colonyships quickly in the begining land run, and helps through out the game. I also max out the research +50 which is almost overkill and spend the rest on some variaton of luck(i think i may get more eithical choices) soldering, PQ or pop. growth. The reaserch and producton bonuses let me develop diplo transalators first which more than makes up for

My last game (crippling large abundant), i skipped form scout to Deathknight, had 2 fully upgraded mitiilaty resources and the game was over, never lost a death knight. In previous games on similar settings i had built battleships and would on occasion lose some after several battles. I have never played long enough to get to avatars, overlords, or exacaliburs. I have built AMMs before but never needed them, but that low maintainence does look awfully attractive.

I usually only have 1 or 2 SB for production and the rest for resources mining. I don't culture bomb as i like to invade and take planets by force (fun fun!); but the logistics has hurt me also. As my games are short (moping up when i build my first dreadnught), the initial cost outways what the maintaince would have cost. I find my self parking my constructors on the resources and turnign my spending down and just saving hoping that a AI that i choose not to go to war with yet doiesn't send

If the terror star has a speed module upgrade, will it move faster? Also, if a starbase has a module to upgrade the defence of ships in its sector, it the SB defence also upgraded?

I notice that along with Battleship tech comes the Death Knight. Seams odd to have 2 capital ships come from the same tech. The Death Kight is 50% more expensive (overhead and maintianence) for an additional 1 in defence and attack and 10 in hitpoints. It doesn't seem like much advantage until you way in all the +10% abilities added with all the upgrades such as techs and even more with military mining resources in one's posession. The Death Knight also has 1 plus range which is of little he

1) When i "kill" one of my own trade routes, do i also lose the frieghter? 2) How much does the age of the trade route improve its profit? 3)When i invade and capture a system say the arceans, i notice i keep some routes, are those started by other races or the arceans or both? 4) What does trade embargo do? Do i lose my routes, alein routes or both and is it permanent or reversibe (meaning i can turn it back on and have it pick up where it left off)? Any h

The AI in MOO2, seemed to cheat mor, i mean i would have better planets with allkinds of uprgrades, twice and many people and it would take me fore ever to build a battleship, while the MOO2 AIs would churn out one every 4 turns. If it wasn't for gyro destabilizers, tractor beams and bording, and warp dissapators i would never get past the mid game on hard. I could capture 3 of their battleships before builing one of my own. I do love the MOO2 game, i played it last month in fact, but now t
