btw - I would have put this on the news page but I assume Mike will be doing that and I wanted to save the front page story for him. He should get to express his feelings and break the news himself. Read Janis Ian's article, there are other ways for the artists to benefit than by putting teenagers or their parents in jail or fining them into homelessness. The artists loose more to the RIAA's stranglehold on distribution than they could ever loose by having wider exposure thanks to file sharing.

This'll be great... the DVD will only play in YOUR player, if you buy a new DVD player you'll have to get an activation code from Microsoft for it to play the movie. It will regularly contact MS to let them know how many times you've watched it and how many people were in the room (and their names and addresses if they've bought any RFID clothes from Walmart).

The way I heard it the DVD+ drives are more compatible with DVD players. They're also less likely to produce coasters. There's a couple drives that do both plus and minus. You could get your Dell without a burner and add one of those. I went for the Plextor 504 which is a DVD+ burner. There was a theatre in Monterey that bought the dual-projector 3D system for a few hundred thousand bucks but there were only two movies made for it. It used the dark glasses (polarized lenses) and was a pretty good effect as I recall. I only remember what one of the movies was, Andy Warhol's "Dracula". The entrails hanging down in the sewer grate was the highlight of the film.... they stretched halfway across the theatre. unfortunately the "Dream" theatre went out of business... <img

It looks great. I like the intro, it's very well done. You might want to set a white background color for the browser window, you have white around the outside of the site's body graphics and if the visitor doesn't have white set for window backgrounds it looks unfinished. Dell machines are good and their customer service is good. Generally you can get a monitor thrown in for about the same cost as building a comparable system yourself without a monitor. The trade-off is in the quality of the components like OEM video cards that don't perform as well as the boxed versions. The advantage is you get the whole thing ready to fly right out of the box. Depends on what you can afford. I was recently forced to build a new system and I was only able to scrape up about $800 for it. I went with an AMD 2200XP and an ASUS MB, 1G of RAM which runs in dual-channel mode (do this if you can), and a nVidia FX5600 w/128Mb. It's been great with everything I do on it so far.
