I don't know what to look for here. There are times when some of the music doesn't play when I think it should. For instance, when speaking to one race I will here that race's music, but when talking to another race I will not here that race's music. Is there some condition where I should no longer expect to here a race's music? Cheers, Jack

I like the more recognizable text "Exit Game" than I do "Exit" (exit what?). I have had the exact same problem Bjorn has had, expecially when the contents of the options dialog changed. I had to work hard to school myself to a new pattern of actions to avoid hours of game play. Cheers, Jack

Even with major economic problems, you would think they would at least move thier ships around, or even disban them in order to solve any economic problems they may have. Also, they are on planets with a class high enough to ensure that they should at least be able to build at least one improvement. Clicking on the star they own shows plenty of resources and income with no expenses, so it doesn't look like an economic problem. And now, I have discovered a second race stuck like this. <

Dominic I have had many occasions where I was desperately trying to find a star system by name. I have been hoping that when the planet list becomes sortable the problem will dissapear. It would also be nice if some aid was available that would "fast forward" through the list, such as pressing a letter key to advance to the first planet that starts with that character. Cheers, Jack

One further test I did just to try to narrow it down further, I restarted my game with my PC logged onto the net and clicked the "no thanks" button to the metaverse questions. The game closed and went back to the main menu, which I exited. When I checked the Debug.err file its contents were a good match for the above. BTW, my score on a huge galaxy was 33,864. Cheers, Jack

I don't know if this will help you people at Stardock with this problem but I got the same failure when I finished the game with my PC logged onto the internet. When I rebooted and restarted the game without my PC logged on I got the following in my Debug.err: ---------------------------- Debug Message: ******* Starting Game Shell ******* Debug Message: Going Fullscreen Debug Message: RGB in format 5:6:5, Masks reported as f800:7e0:1f Debug Message: Now Fullscreen<b

The more I look at this the more I realize that the games I have played did not do this very well, even those that allow adding or deleting units in groups. For the most part, as I remember those that allowed assigning units to groups, they did not allow units to occupy such destinctly defined areas as Galciv does (tiles). War Craft II, for instance, allowed units to flow almost to a pel, but units did not truly overlap (as in GalCiv). So, it looks like adding units to a

Fredrik, If you did a shift-drag to toggle select/deselect and some of them were already selected how would the program know which you wanted to do? The only way to avoid program confusion is to have one combination for select and another for deselect. Cheers, Jack

But using it as a toggle does not allow you to use drag to add or subtract multiple items. It only allows one at a time to be added or subtracted. And if a lot of them are stacked, .... Cheers, Jack

I saved and exited a game and tried to restart it. When clicking the load saved game text from the main menu I get the following SmartException report: --------------------------- Stardock SmartException Logging Information 06/27/02 14:00:05 ------------------------------------------------------- Versions: Microsoft Windows Me Internet Explorer 5.50.4134.0100 Video Card : NVIDIA GeForce2 GTS/GeForce2 Pro (IBM) Crash Information: Application Excepti

I got the SmartException report below when I was trying to negotiate peace with a race I was at war with. Unfortunately, I have not saved for many turns and I don't know what month it was (for the newbies, autosave is done in January of each year). This was with a Gigantic galaxy at 1280*1024*32bit. Here is the exception report: ------------ Stardock SmartException Logging Information 06/27/02 11:30:14 --------------------------------------------------

Dominic, Could this be a population related problem? That is, if a banking system is built on a planet with a very small population then will the revenue it produces be more than the expense of running the bank? Similar to a small town in the real world might experience? Cheers, Jack

Dominic, I have not seen this but I have seen GalCiv writing to the Debug.err file while Galciv is in the background. You might want to check your Debug.err file (the one in the Galciv directory) to see if anything is obvious. Mine fills up with screen error messages. ***WARNING**** Check the properties of the debug.err file before trying to load it with an editor (I use NOTEPAD). If it is small (>1Meg) you should be able to view it. If it is huge (<2MEG

Dominic, Are you sure the starting class you are talking about is a 28? I have seen (and Cari has stated) that the largest (and rarest) starting planet class is 26. So, a base of 26 + soil (at 10% rounded down) = 28, plus habitat improvement (10%) = 30 (again rounded down) + terraforming (50%) = 45. (Are all calculations for planet class and population still being rounded down instead of being rounded to the closest unit?) Cheers, Jack
