In the Alpha builds there was a real neat clip when you won the game. Was that just a place holder? Was it removed for some reason? Come to think of it, I don't remember seeing it in Alpha 10 either. Cheers, Jack

Cari, Here it is again in the Beta. This time I started out with brand new directories from drengin.net on out. Also, I checked the file GC1.XML and it is listed there as well. (This file is in drengin.net\data\gc.) Cheers, Jack
Be sure there are no ships defending the planet when your transport arrives. If there are, you will have to kill them just prior to attacking the planet with the transport. Cheers, Jack
Try researching an eleventh route. It crashes. Unfortunately, my SmartException is broken. I need help fixing it. I am sending Cari some data for it. Cheers, Jack
Cari, Is this still good? http://www.stardock.com/temp/sx-odinst.exe --- I think it still works. It seems to still be there. Everyone should have it installed and running. There are some bugs that just can't be solved without it.
I am testing all sizes this time. Cheers, Jack
According to the file English.str in directory galciv\data Tiny = 3x3, Small = 5x5 Medium = 7x7 Large = 9x9 Huge = 12x12 Gigantic = 15x15 However, I am currently playing a Small galaxy that is only 4x4. Cheers, Jack
Brad, If you were answering my "more specific question" you didn't. Cheers, Jack
I admit the graphics in Civ 3 are quite good, but I wonder how many people bought Civ 3 expecting it to play as good as Civ 2 did. I am one, and I am very dissapointed with it. If I had known I would not have bought it. What would the sales look like if all like me had not bought Civ 3? Cheers, Jack
For some reason it refused to take blanks in the name field. Cheers, Jack
Pat, The registration asks for a "serial number". May we assume that this is the registration number for our Drengin.net subscription? Cheers, Jack
I don't think it would be possible to have 60 trade routes (routes for all races) on a tiny or small galaxy. I don't think there are that many star systems available. At a minimum each race would have to have 10 stars each, which is certainly not possible on a tiny galaxy and rather dense on a small one. But as the galaxy sizes increases I think that if the number of trade routes was too limited it would affect gameplay. The amount of revenue to, for instance, conquor a huge or large g
Alex, I don't think anyone is trying to pan any of your very good work. We all enjoy how the display of the game is building and improving and I think it adds tremendously to GalCiv. But I think you have to rank the importance of the graphics and playability/replayability based more on what genre the game fits. A "duke nukem" kind of game would live or die on the quality its graphics (3D or otherwise). But a strategy game must be one that challenges the mind (which is
Rich, When I saw the "Populist" party it brought to mind the political environment here in Oregon. This is not something that enhances population growth. The US had a "Populist" party in the late 1890's that had agrarian roots, was basically anti "big business", professed the government control of monopoly concerns (such as utilities), and desired a minimum of interference of government with small businesses. Based on what I have found in the dictionary and encyclopedic descriptio
:sniff!: Arrrgggg. Brad, Don't scare me like that. Jack
Klaus, I suspect they are very busy getting the first Beta build prepared. At times like this more patience is called for. (They are probably running around very frantically trying to get the build ready - sort of like chickens with their heads cut off. I have been there, and I have great sympathy for them.) I was going to try to answer your questions a couple of days ago, but I felt I was the wrong person to do so. So let me give your questions a try and maybe later (after
Nice!!! I am one of those insufferable people who likes numbers, or percentages with my scroll bars (such as how rich in habitable planets the galacy is, intelegence and demeanor of the alians, etc.). Would it be possible to add this? Cheers, Jack
With all the economy stuff in it, perhaps I can make a proffit!! Ferengi Jack
Dominic, Some of the earlier threads (before you joined us) commented on the amount of tuning, balancing, and spell checking that still had to be done. No mention yet has been made on when it will be done, but with the amount of polish Brad wanted on the game for the review that GalCiv will get when the Beta comes out I suspect we should ask: Stardock (Brad, Cari, Scott, etc.), When the Beta gets to us, should we start reporting things like balance and tuning concer
I just noticed that there is a new DGM (it downloaded immediately when I started the older one). It downloaded and went through a mandatory re-boot just fine, and restarted without any indication of error. Then I decided to try it out by updating my copy of TCM. When it downloaded the first package, it finished with an error 430, followed by the usual "DGM had a severe error and is terminating" messages. I then restarted the DGM and uninstalled TCM and then installed all of the TCM pac
I have just noticed this and it looks strange. Perhaps it should work this way, but it is not what I expected, nor is it consistant. An enemy planet has ships in orbit and a colony wagon (I think this is a phantom ship because I have tried to attack it and my Avatar just moves into the same tile) in the tile just to the south. I have a transport in the tile SW and S of the planet and my Avatar is in the tile to the SE. When I attack the planet my two transports are destroyed, and one o
You may want to check the pathfinding code for colony ships. I have seen a couple of instances now where I have sent one to a tile next to a star I wanted to colonize and it stopped at a star that was directly on the path. This is the kind of problem where I have a hard time trying to figure out just what kind of information might be useful, and it is difficult to figure out a test that will specifically cause the error. Also, this might have happened to a survey ship, but I am not sur
I have never seen a real live 3D Chess game (although Star Trek showed them). And all other board games I have seen are 2D. Every war on our planet has been fought in a 2D environment. Every scrimmage, battle, and war has been for territory on this planet. Even though air to air "dog fights" require some limited 3D approach, they are still aimed at an ultimate objective that is still 2D in nature, the expansion of 2D terratory. So, how long will 2D strategic thinking be viable? We are
Petri, Be careful. If you end up loosing to this strategy you may have second thoughts about your opinion. Cheers, Jack
100% hit point bonus for the War Party ("The Hawks"?)? Who would pick anything else. Cheers, Jack
