Paul, Don't forget that it has to work both ways, one way to add units, the other to remove units. So: how about shift-left click to add, and ctrl-left click to remove? Cheers, Jack

While some scroll bars act as we have been led to believe is "normal" by all of the applications that make them behave a certain way (and some of the scroll bars in GalCiv conform), at least one of the GalCiv scroll bars act just the opposite. The scroll bar for "loading troups" which is also used for loading colonists is one: 1). Clicking on the arrow to the left or right of the scroll bar moves it several increments while clicking on the space between an arrow and the "

I am finding the ship selection algorithm doing strange things. The symptoms seem to be subtle in some cases, and leave me uncertain as to whether I actually saw a particular symptom or not. However, here is what I can definitely describe: 1). When selecting a ship to leave orbit, it will not be selected for movement on the current turn. 2). The ship summary window often does not match the currently selected ship. 3). The "find" button or the tab key will fail to select

Dominic, This was reported before you joined us testers. The Stardock people did this deliberately for the early part of the tests. They wanted to ensure that we got the latest builds as soon as they were available. Once we found this out we started creating our own shortcuts as well as using the DGM to check the availability of new builds every day, so I guess their method got curcumvented without causing negative impacts to their intents. Cheers, <b

The current "cyber poll": "do strategy games benefit from 3D engines?" has answers that are confusing and seem to cause assumed preconditions that make the answers convaluted. 1). While I feel that use of 3D graphics can enhance the enjoyment of a good strategy game, I don't think a good strategy game MUST use them. 2). I have yet to see a good strategy game that suffered negative affects that could be blamed directly on the 3D graphics engine.

Some time ago, long before the latest crop of testers joined us, Cari had asked that each problem be reported as a separate thread, instead of putting several problems in one title (like "problems with build 10", etc.) Also, if the thread titles are suffitiently descriptive, one can scan the thread titles on this message board and get a good idea of the problem being reported. An added bonus is that it is easier to remember the contents of a thread from a well d

This is something I reported way back when the game save/restore feature was added. If there are no saved games and I try to restore one GalCiv gets a trap 5 with the following report: ------------------ Stardock SmartException Logging Information 06/24/02 09:44:13 ------------------------------------------------------- Versions: Microsoft Windows Me Internet Explorer 5.50.4134.0100 Video Card : NVIDIA GeForce2 GTS/GeForce2 Pro (IBM) Crash Informa

Gherardo, The old OS2 version did not allow a colony ship to add to a planet's current population but you can have a transport add to a planet's pop (both versions). Cheers, Jack

Raf, The FIND button should not select a ship on autopilot. Another way of finding a ship is to use the ship list. If you select a ship that is not orbitting a star the screen will center on the ship. Cheers, Jack

With the new alpha 10 I am unable to prevent the autoturn function from working. I noticed that the prefs.ini had a LOT of repeated stuff and lots of the ">" and " characters in it that Cari said were bad news when I reported them in the prefs.ini of a previous build, so I tried deleting the prefs.ini and started a new game: same results. Cheers, Jack

When I was visiting Stardock on my trip Cari showed me some of the graphics for the trade "speak to" window. I thought they were awesome. What I didn't reallise was that they had been available to us since 5/23 (about a week after I left on the trip). When I returned home and downloaded the latest build I find this guy looking left and right waiting for me to conduct a trade. And all of the planet graphics are changed too. It just keeps getting prettier and

Brad, I think the point is that the code fails in int check for whether there are more techs to research when it finishes the second to last tech in the tree. Admittedly, the tech tree needs work, but I was led to understand that that work will be done will be done with the tweeking. The code, however, should not stop one tech short of the end of the tree. Fredrik, I think what you are talking about with the unhappy populations in the O/S2 version is that the population rebelled, which is how you lost the planet. This would not happen until you changed your government from the starting government type. Cheers, Jack

I am back. I stopped by Stardock just to make sure everyone was having fun and: 1). Brad was in Disneyland (or was it Disneyworld?). I am told he kept saying Disneyland in Florada. 2). I met Cari, Scott, Kris, and Angi (and talked to a couple of others that I didn't get names for). 3). They were having fun. 4). I enjoyed my tour of the Stardock offices. It looks like a pleasant place to work and everyone seemed to be happy. Cheers, Jack

Hi All, I am going to be out of touch for a while. My wife and I are traveling cross continent and will be gone for 4-5 weeks, so I will miss all of the fun and games during that time. You all have fun. And, all of you at Stardock, be happy and have fun (or you may find me on your doorstep when we pass through Michigan). Cheers, Jack
