What's up with their website? It looks like winamp.com hasn't been updated in a few months (or longer); I went there expecting to see some kind of news about version 5, but there's nothing there except 2 and 3. They don't even have any announcements from when they decided to stop development on version 3. Have they moved to a different site, or what?
I must have missed something...so then how does LogonStudio do it? Isn't that also a Stardock program? And if so, why not just improve LogonStudio?
I use Trillian, although I certainly wouldn't consider it a "client". It's more like an "instant messenger organizer" or something like that, since it doesn't have a protocol of its own. As far as clients, a few years back I used only Odigo. I dumped that, though, and now use (mainly) AIM through Trillian, as that's what my friends use.

Don't forget also, unless someone already mentioned it...as a ship continues to win in combat, that ship goes up in "level", which give more bonuses to attack and defense. So it may lose a few HP in each battle, but it gets stronger with each victory.
Okay, I'm certainly not new to GalCiv, but can someone tell me what a "mod" is? Here I've been thinking it's like a modification to the game, kinda like the mods for Half-Life change that game, but some of these threads don't make sense using that definition. Are some people using the word "mod" to talk about the modifications you sometimes get (like, you found an anomaly that gives you 1% military bonus, stuff like that)? --Mark
Personally, I play it maybe a couple times a week. I tried registering on the Metaverse and submitted 2 games, but they never showed up, so I just stopped bothering to submit them. As far as "cleaning out" old games from the Metaverse, I would think that would defeat its purpose. Unless it's changed, the initial purpose of the Metaverse was to someday allow the game to "learn" from these past-played games in the database, to allow the AI to grow. Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I looked at PowerDVD, and unfortunately spending another $50 for another DVD player on the computer isn't an option right now, so I'll just live without the screenshots. C'est la vie, as they say somewhere far away.
What do you folks recommend for a good (and preferably free) screen capture program? I'm looking for something that I can use to save images of my desktop, as well as take still images from DVD's (right now I'm using WinDVD, but that program's "capture" feature doesn't always work right, often squishing the image instead of keeping it the same resolution). I tried this a few months back also. I wanted to set up a login for my daughter (she's 6) so she would have easier access to her games and stuff. So I picked out a DesktopX theme (which was a different screen resolution than mine, the admin's...this will come up later) and set her up. Perhaps you do only wipe out the enemy "troops", but the number of troops exactly matches the total population (for example, if you just click on the star system to get that info before invading). It might be neat to have the occasional choice like alien13c suggests.
You can change your leader's name. You can also (via the PREFS.INI file) change the names of the leaders for the alien races, too. It's a small touch, but it looks neat when you go to talk to the Yor leader, and he comes up as "Ambassador 10110". ha ha :D That makes me wonder, is there also a way to change the "default" name for ships? Maybe I should look through those files more closely. Does anyone else know? --Mark
Has anyone ever taken over a planet WITHOUT killing 100% of the population? There have been times when I've conquered a planet with a medium-to-high population (10,000 or so). I shudder a bit as I watch their numbers drop steadily until they reach 0. Wouldn't it make sense that occasionally a race will surrender to AVOID complete extinction of their race (like, when the population reaches a certain percentage of the original number, they just give up and hand you the planet)? Or are
If I interpret Brad's meaning of "cultural win" correctly, it has nothing whatsoever to do with military might. With the enhancements we're supposed to see in Beta 3, I suspect it would be a real challenge, though not impossible, to control influence in a sector where your race was actually the minority, population-wise. --Mark

For example, I could point out that "minorest" isn't a word (and thank the gods that I don't have any kind of spell check feature for forums...it would smack my knuckles for that word). One thing I've seen is that some themes are "double-zipped". For example, the theme may have the .dxtheme extension, but it's actually zipped. Try changing the extension to .zip and open it with WinZip or whatever you use for that...if there's just a single file with the .dxtheme extension, extract that and that should work.
