If you look really closely (the highest possible resolution) it looks like an Advent ship, its sorta triangular shaped with the wide engine on the back. On second thoughts, nah, too irregular, two black holes maybe? Other than that I can't think of anything except maybe a binary pair of planets in the distance, a dead star (not a black hole), an asteroid, a Space Station or a hole in the wallpaper. Really loving that TEC ship though, butt ugly can be beautiful.

these arent extensive, it appears taht there are only basic ones on the big ships. nothing more. That wouldn't put too great a dent in the strategy, most people would just want to disable a ship (engines MUST be a targetable subsystem, I mean, c'mon) to give them time to destroy it. So we won't be able to take out individual gun turrets, I'm bet

We're talkinga about 1:1 battles. Naturally a battleship can pop in 15 secs if it is bobarded by 4 others. I agree with Schem about the length. But we don't know if space environments are going to be employed. ie asteroid fields or nebulae. Asteroids could collide with your ship at the wrong moment and nebular gas could have acidic or elect

I always say never bother with presents, the money I normally get in the christmas cards is fine. Then I can buy my own!

Yes it is. I consider this my territory. Ditto, if I'm at peace, my borders are open, but if I'm at war, I mercilessly hunt down any ships that dare cross my influence border and convert them from Starship to expanding cloud in the blink of an eye...mwahahahahaha! >Twiddles fingers menacingly

Hilarious. I hope it's fake, because if I ever meet that person in real life, I will kill them. "Oh my god, my blood is the wrong colour!"

I've noticed that, other Sins forums, such as Gamespot and IGN, are nearly empty. What we need is a (dedicated) gameplay video! A nice little presentation of what Sins can do, yeah starving us of information is a good tactic, but whetting our appetites is a better one! It'll silence the skeptics who say Sins is too ambitious and won't gel (pfft, whadda they know)and sway the people on the fence from maybe to yes. Well...discuss...what should be in this (hypothetical) video.

Seen it, played it, hated it. Too cartoony for my taste. And I never thought a game could be too simplistic (combat) and too complicated (Empire management) at the same time, bad bad bad bad bad. I'm willing to bet a lot was sacrificed in Sins just so the devs could call it a trendy real time game. Yeah but the things sacrificed would'v

If Sins is to live up to it's "epic" charter than battles should be large scale and long. Long battles are always more exciting, giving you (and the enemy) a chance to make numerous tactical decisions that could see the outcome of the battle shift numerous times before a conclusion. I remember playing Star Trek: Armada 2, no strategy involved whatsoever, just build a massive fleet of ships, and send them against another massive fleet of ships, and 10 seconds later, he with the biggest f

Fighters could be good for taking out ship subsystems. Example: Bada$$ enemy battleship approaching a squadron of your frigates and cruisers. What are YOU gonna do about it, if the ship gets in range it will tear you apart because a) it is bigger than you b) it is meaner than you c) it is faster than you and d) You're in a gravity well unable to jump away...what do you do? Answer: Send bombers to disable enemy ships engines PROBLEM: Bombers destroyed >think

Another thing that leads me to believe that Phase Gates can be built as physical structures is this exerpt from the gameplay section Only when they draw nearer to the planet do you realize there is an operational Phase Gate on the other side of the planet. To me "operational" implies that it is in someway mechanical. Since it is doubtful

its difficult to confirm a negative. so I wont argue this point. its just that I dont believe thats the case because the name is already tied up in another thing Fair enough, my point is really based on the fact that the scout description stated deliberately that it was a *temporary* phase gate, which led me to believe that there was ano

If anyone's ever seen Canadian Bacon (IMDb page) then real life has just edged one bit closer to the film. Quote: "Like maple syrup, Canada's evil oozes all over the United States" But seriously, you gotta love Canada.

Phase Gate: Establishes a temporary phase gate at this ship’s location, allowing friendly capital ships to phase jump there at an accelerated rate and further into a gravitational well. The way the article goes out of its way to put temporary in there makes me think that the scout ship creates a temporary Wormhole in Phase Space, so it

Kinda like the stargates on SG-1. That would be nice, creating dedication Gate networks with a central hub at you capital world (assuming more than one gate can be built around a planet) meaning that ships can be sent anywhere quickly from your homeworld.

Sure there is, can't be to big, since it has only one cannon on it. Maybe a frigate? Depends how big the cannon is, it could be like a MAC cannon from Halo (really really big)

I've heard some bad stuff about StarTrek:Legacy(PC) Oh dear God, Legacy for the PC makes me want to kill myself! The only thing that brings me back is the thought of DA in February and the (also Stardock published) Sins of a Solar Empire in August, that and Halo 3, and Halo Wars...etc etc. Anywho, congratulations Stardock! It happen

I have here some general questions about the Phase Drives, these questions are aimed at no one in particular, it's more out of interest than anything else. 1. Will there be upgrades available, and will the improvement be speed related (ships go faster) or range related (ships go further, assuming range is an issue) 2. Can you (and if not it might be a good idea) order your ships to change course while they are in transit. 3. Can you impose countermeasures that stall en

I think the 10 minute FTL journey is between galaxies (See here) rather than systems. If so then you'd obviously want to send you're hardy battleships to invade another galaxy since they've gotta last until reinforcements arrive (Which will take 10 minutes). However once you've established a foothold in the galaxy you can use weaker ships since interplanetary and interstellar jumps would take less time.
