Thanks guys. It seemed to me that if I have a control group of mixed ships / not fleet / the carriers will know to stay at the edge of the well out of the way, but when a fleet with carriers they just follow the flagship. So in this instance it takes an extra micro in fleet mode to tell the carriers to go to the edge of a well.
That's because the car
Control group is fully manual. Fleet has some AI automation to make things a bit less micro-managey. When you make a fleet, one ship acts as the fleet leader. You then have, as an example, a "Fleet Cohesion" setting which determines how far away ships can stray from the fleet leader to engage targets (this works with the engagement radius setting). If you set it to "Tight" cohesion, ships won't move far at all, but if you set it to "Loose" they'll

Hello again, Thanks for the quick answer, Annatar11 :) It's a pity they can't be shot down; the anxiety of watching your doom encroach from out of range, and hoping that your flakk can save you would be fuckin' tense. -Itharus

Hi there, I'm not in the Beta... /cry... So I was wondering if you all would be so kind as to answer a question for me? Q: The torpedoes fired from these torpedo cruisers --- can the torpedoes be shot down w/ flakk as if they were strike craft? Or are you pretty much just screwed once they are let fly? Thanks much! -Itharus

Really? Uhg... I guess my brain was still wrapped around the WW2 model of flak guns; where big low flying slow bombers are what got ripped to shreds by flak instead of the small, fast, much nimbler and higher flying fighters. It's weird that the flak frigates are more anti fighter than anti bomber. So are fighters really the only true counter left to bombers? I'll try sticking the Kortul(s) on the repair ships... presuming I can get them to survive, lol. Thanks for the info on

To put it bluntly... the TEC AI (Hard) keep sending about 40-50 squadrons of bombers and 20-30 squadrons of fighters at me (I play Vasari), and the carriers are backed by around 20 or so Hoshinkos. I'm not even going to bother detailing the rest of the fleet, because it's not the part thats damaging me. Jam Weapons (maxed) on my Kortul(s) do absolutely nothing. I can set it off as soon as the bombers enter the sphere of effect, but they have already fired their salvos at that point. I

I play Vasari almost exclusively... so excuse me if I'm wrong... but doesn't a Kol have an amazingly annoying shield ability that would allow it to get off a few flak bursts, even against that many bombers? -Itharus

To the Original Poster, Hhhhm, think of it this way: SoasE: $30.00 = CHEAP NEW GAME! AND IT ACTUALLY KICKS ASS! WOOT! SoaSE + Entrenchment: $40.00 = STILL A SEMI CHEAP GAME! NOW EVEN BETTER! HELLZ YEAH! SoaSE + Entrenchment + Exp 2: $50.00 = A regularly priced (for a brand new) PC game with even MORE content! SICK! SoaSE + Entrechment + Exp 2 + Exp 3 = $60.00 = Hey, it finally costs about as much as a brand new console game, or new big-na

Hhhm, I would have to say my top 5 great movie monsters are: #1.) The Alien from "Alien" - and all of it's spawnings - the Alien Queen, the Alien Runner, the Face Huggers, the Chest Bursters, the Predalien from AvP: Requiem (especially when it's around pregnant women, lol), etc. The Alien just wins, hands down. #2.) The Predator, from the movie of the same name. #3.) Unicron, from the animated "The Transformers" movie. #4.) The green orb from "Heavy Metal".

If you ever do want an explanation of how to use the Z-Axis, I've a thread in this same forum called "Z-Axis back in 1.096?" that provides one. Peace, -Itharus

Sorry CenturionJixra, I'm not really trying to rag on you directly, it was just the attitude of the post that irked me (it happened to be the last of several of that vein that I had read that day - so said squeak got the grease). I do understand what you are saying about multi-player, the human element is fun to deal with (sometimes, lol), and I do indulge in multiplayer from time to time with a few select individuals, and I enjoy the hell out of it. But to be

First, you need to map the command to a key, personally, I map it as "~" (tilde). 1.) Click the "move" button or press it's hotkey (I think the default is "D"). 2.) Position your cursor to where you want the ship to move. 3.) Tap the Z-Axis hotkey. 4.) Adjust the Z-Axis position of the cursor via the mouse (moving forward/backward to go up/down). 5.) Click to complete the move order. 6.) Profit. You can set waypoints in 3D space while us

If I recall correctly, the enemy loses credits and/or resources when you destroy their trade/refinery ships (actually loses them, not just has the income rate affected); you also gain some credits and/or resources when you destroy enemy trade/refinery ships. So really, it's just another way of insuring your money. Of course, I could be wrong about the above. Anyone want to confirm? Am I tripping or not? -Itharus

I've noticed that in 1.096, you can once again map the Z-Axis control to a button and move your ships around in 3D... Huzzah!!!!! I don't know if this is intended, or a mistake, but damn... I missed the hell out of the Z-Axis. I'm glad it's back, it makes things way more fun/interesting! I came to notice it because the AI (on Hard) phased into my system... and proceded to fly past my forces swiftly by going above them, and then dropping down near my planet... something I've never seen

Really, when you think about it - when used like you're suggesting? It's cheating. You're supposed to get better at a game and work within it's system/ruleset to achieve victory. Well, I'm not certain which race this question is specific too (if any), but if you're playing the Vasari? I highly reccomend having a Marauder or two available (not attached to the main fleet)... never underestimate Subversion. You can really frustrate an opponent with selective use of a Marauder's Subversion ability. What can nicely complement a Marauder is using some of those free supply points to quickly build a few Sentinels and a few Destructors to make a fast,

*Sigh* Single player SoaSE is just as valid as multi-player SoaSE. You are not 'elite' for playing online. So quit making snide remarks. I mean, really! We're all a part of the same community - we don't need any god damned segregation, that crap destroys communities. And before you argue - yes - you made a snide remark: " If you play the real Sins game--online multiplayer..." . Frankly, it was uncalled for, so sham

Why? The old game FreeSpace 2 had something that was pretty much just that - a persistent galaxy with win/loss records that affected area control of the map, wasn't it called Squad-Wars or something? If they could do it in what... '98'? '99'? They could certainly do it now. I for one would enjoy it... The only problem would be flavor of the month imba winning out.
